hello
Got excellent advice here recently about ports, so looking for more.
Looking to book an RCI cruise to Hamburg
Oslo
Bruges
and wondering about the accessibility of these ports and of the Navigator of the Seas.
Any advice/info welcome.
Thankyou!!:D

Very helpful, thankyou both!

All very useful, thankyou both.
We have visited Lisbon in the past, before he was in a wheelchair, so we have been to Belem (we love the tarts!)

Hello
Due to sail in a few weeks with my husband who uses an electric wheelchair.
Our first port is Leixoes (for Oporto), wondering whether Leixoes is worth a visit, or go straight for Oporto.
Can’t quite work out if P&O will transfer us to Oporto or not.
Thankyou

Useful to know, thankyou 🙂

Oh wow, thankyou so much everyone for all that info, gives me plenty to look at. It's so far trying to decide!
Automatic doors would be useful, as he is unable to get in/out of cabins with normal doors on his own.
I'll speak to both lines regarding port transfers in Europe, I suspect they will be obliged to due to EU laws.

Looking at doing Northern Europe, so Stockholm, Heksinki, Copenhagen, Oslo. All will have things to do. I know St Petersburg is likely difficult, but unavoidable if we want to do those other ports.
RCL ships Vision, Serenade, Brilliance
NCL ships Getaway, Breakaway
I wondering about how accessible the ships are; deck negotiation, cabins, corridors, shops, lifts.
Do the lines generally provide accessible transport from the port (like P&O do).
Also what is the entertainment/food like, we are a young couple and find the shows a bit off putting on P&O!

Hello
Looking at booking our 3rd cruise in 2018, our first two were with P&O and I am keen to explore other options.
Due to itineraries I am looking at NCL or RCI and would appreciate opinions regarding access pros/cons for these lines, or specific ships.
My husband is an electric wheelchair user, cannot walk at all or do his own transfers, I do them for him.
Thankyou

Thanks for the help!

Hello
Looking at booking a Fjords cruise with my husband, who uses an electric wheelchair. I've looked into them extensively so far and deducted Ines from my list of 'potentials' for Tender ports.
Wanting information regarding the following ports, for their accessibility and 'things to do' that my husband can enjoy (we don't really want to do the organised tours).
Stavanger
Flam
Alesund
Bergen
Olden
Thanks!

Thanks all.
Yes on P&O we were very young compared to the others!!
Awaiting prices from a travel company at the moment. Possibly leaning towards RCL at the moment.
JSR do you fly? Do you use a manual or electric chair?

Anyone any thoughts on Celebrity Eclipse?
-
Thanks so much Scootergirl - very helpful!! Husband is particularly excited that NYC may be an option for us again :)
Not looked up any Celebrity cruises, so might do this. Otherwise think I'm set on between 2 of them. Have possibly left it too late to get an access cabin, so will need to see.
Flying will be interesting - not done it since he's been a wheelchair user and I suffer anxiety over planes; but if needs must :)

Thanks all so far for replies
Ports on the cruises we're looking at;
Bruges
Oslo
Hamburg
Paris (Le Havre)
Cannes (tender?)
Ajaccio (tender?)
Barcelona
Palma
Cagliari
Rome (Civitavecchia)
Provence (Marseilles)
Nice (Villefranche) (tender?)
Florence/Pisa (La Spezia) (tender?)
Rome (Civitavecchia)
Naples/Capri (tender?)
He will not be able to board a tender, so have reservations about some, but we aren't adament about getting off at all ports.
I'm intrigued that NYC was good - we love New York, have been 3 times and assumed we'd never be able to go again, so this gives me hope!!

So far the ones I'm looking at are;
RC Northern Cities on Indepenance of the Seas
RC Western Med on Jewel of the Seas - this one worries me as outof the5 ports, we've visited 2 (Barcelona and Palma) and 2 are reportly tenders...but if the ship is worth it that's a compromise!
NCL Norwegian Epic and Jade have a couple that might be do-able (but my parents have cruised NCL and didn't like it)
Have considered a couple of Baltic cruises - but really want some sunshine and warmth, which is putting me off.
A lot of P&O cruises out of Malta - how accessible is Valletta?
-
Having real difficulty deciding who and where to sail with my disabled (wheelchair bound) husband.
We did P&O Britannia last year and although we enjoyed the cruise, felt very out of place due to our age (both under 33yo).
Looking at a different P&O, Royal Caribbean, NCL. But open to suggestions? Sailing from Southampton or somewhere less than 3hours out of UK. Really just want a ship with good accessibility and some interesting ports - don't mind if we can't visit them all. Ideally less than 10night duration.
Help?!

Hello
Apologies if this question is covered elsewhere.
My husband has real mobility issues following treatment for leukaemia. I've decided we need a holiday and some sunshine. We've never been on a cruise before, but my parents are regulars on P&O.
Is there a particular liner that is better equipped to deal with disabled passengers? Husband doesn't normally use a wheelchair, but would if we were to go away - he struggles to walk further than 6-7 meters without assistance.
We're wanting to cruise from Southampton and ideally visit Western Europe / Canaries. We are 31 and 27 yo if that makes a difference.
I'm struggling to find info on RCI website regarding tender requires at ports.
Thanks

Thanks so much for replies.
We did throughly enjoy our Spain/Portugal Cruise thankyou. I think Oporto might have been my favourite port (despite the lengthy bus journey for the pier). We didn’t get to Belem, but have been previously before we had the wheelchair to consider!
Am intrigued about Hamburg - info I’ve found online suggests it is a docked port, but an email from RCI suggests it may be rendered? Don’t want to risk loosing a port considering there are only 3.
Would also consider the Brilliance from Amsterdam, if these ports/ship would be better?
Copenhagen
Stockholm
Tallinn
St. Petersburg
Helsinki
Skagen
