We are taking our family on Independence of the Seas next summer, 2005.  We took them last May 2023 to Alaska on Quantum of the Seas.

on Quantum we were in jr. Suites and were able to eat in the Coastal Kitchen for dinner, which is a suites only restaurant, but there isn’t one on Independence.  Does anyone know if they have another venue that jr. Suites can dine in at night?  It was a nice quiet location for a change from the dining rooms and the buffet. Thank you.

We were in a JS on Indy two years ago and we bought unlimited dining packages.  The ship doesn't have as many specialty restaurants as Oasis or Icon class ships but we did have great meals in Chops, Giovanni's and Izumi -- Hibachi.  We also had lunches in Chops and got a credit for food at Playmakers.

We are spoiled because of Coastal Kitchen.

We are currently on Radiance and at the beginning of the noon announcement the ship’s whistle was blown as a mark of respect to Captain James MacDonald.

He was our captain on Radiance.  Great Captain -- he will be missed.

When we did the TA last year on Odyssey, during either the Captains corner or the lunch with officers, Captain Sindre told us hes going to Utopia, so i guess hes the other captain in the rotation and not currently on the schedule that I could see.….Time will tell

Hes our other Favorite Captain along with Captain Johnny.

I have that as an addition to my Current Captain Word Document

She has CC in her email signature.

I had previously called the reservation line and that was unsuccessful.

But whenever I price a cruise on my own I get contacted by someone else saying they are my CC.

Agreed, their website leaves a lot to be desired.

Same experience and I was happy with my Cruise Concierge and will probably book again with her.

According to his X/Twitter, Captain Johnny picked up his Harley in Galveston and drove it to Florida last month. I don't have any way to know, but I expect we'll see him appear on one of the Florida based ships at some point if he's going to return, and I can't help but think that he will.

Hope he's healthy and able to return to sea.  Maybe Star of the Seas, Icon's sister that deploys next year.

I checked his Twitter and there's a video of alligator crossing their path during a golf game -- labeled "snack time" -- don't know if its for the golfers or the gator.  🤣

Anyone know why RCL stock price went down by 5% yesterday? I know the market was a bit lower yesterday in anticipation of today's CPI announcement but not by that much.

I read some analysts are attributing the sudden dip to a drunk teenager jumping off a ship between the Bahamas and Cuba and a man with dementia wandering off in Cozumel, Mexico.

I don't see how that could be RCL's fault.  They did have to pay to settle a law suit for a Jazz cruise that was cancelled during Covid but enough to lower the stock by that much? **Confused**

The parents of the kid who jumped off Liberty of the Seas will probably sue if the kid was actually served (he was 20 -- under 21 age for alcohol).  I don't know how it will be viewed by a court if one of his friends, who was over 21, got him drinks.

Yeah, indeed resurrection....but hey...before Allure leaves our local home port...damn if I don't want to hop on board for a "quickie'.    Have never met Allure yet, it's local (for now) and I do want to see Mamma Mia.

Sooo...we have a quickie 4 night booked for early May.  😉

We saw Mama Mia on Allure two times.  Really good production.

Yes! I was on Majesty OTS in 1996 and he was Captain. I had asked him for a tour of the bridge, and he actually let me visit while the ship was returning to Miami on Sunday morning. He stated if I felt like getting up at 3am, he was happy to have me. What a great experience listening to the maneuvering calls, etc that took place. Clearly long before other world events changed bridge visits forever.

    So sorry to hear this.

RCI did a video of Voyager's construction, trans Atlantic crossing, docking in Miami and some of its first cruise in 1999.  I wonder if Captain Bang was captain at that time.

The last feed i got from Captain Johnny was he was feeling well and looking to get back to work, but that was about 3 months ago.

That's similar to what I read on Twitter/X.  Maybe he will be on a different ship (possibly Star) as RCI requires the captain to spend a certain amount of time in the shipyard and Captain Johnny was ready to go back to work when this period began for Icon.

shareholderbenefit@rccl.com.  Sent along with my broker statement and within 2 days received confirm.  Also, checked the amount in the cruise planner.  I was having a problem as only $100 in OBC showed.  I knew that the on board booking OBC was missing and after some 15 minutes on the phone it was resolved as the agent had to clear with their resolution dept.

Please be sure to include: Name of ship. Sail date and Reservation # in your e-mail.

Thanks for posting the email address and advice about getting the Shareholder Benefit applied to your reservation.  I have some back to backs coming up on Utopia -- 3 and 4 nights and I would like $50 per cruise.

I would say within the next couple of weeks.

I am not sure if Loy started in early Dec or before that in Finland.

I am on ICON in May and hoping to have Loy again but also would have been nice to see Johnny.

Wish we knew why he was not going to ICON as that would be the last class of ship for him to add to his resume.

I think Captain Loy joined Icon in the Shipland in Turku, Finland.

If Icon doesn't work out for Captain Johnny, he could get an assignment to Star of the Seas Icon's sister coming out next and sailing from Port Canaveral.

I haven't seen any updates on Captain Johnny's Twitter feed but hope that his Melanoma treatment was extremely successful.

I struggled with that at first. So I got a leather cover that opens like a book. I love mine now, and typically have 4k books (read and unread) parked on mine. 😁

I've always had a leather cover for all the Kindles I've had -- I think I'm on number 5.

Wow -- 4K books!!  I have to catch up 🤣

I usually click on content and devices and choose what I want to read.  It's on the website and on my phone.

The pictures are not as great as in a real book but I think it's a good trade.

The other problem is that I've run out of space in my house for more books and that includes a very large built in book case in our great room.

Thanks Sherri!  For some reason I still just like the feel of book in my hands.  Though one day I may go "kindle".  😉

I really like that I have about 1,000 books on my Kindle and suitcases are much lighter.  I used to take about 6 or 7 paperbacks on the cruise.  Now I just take the Kindle and a backup paperback in case I have any problems with the Kindle (but I have had so far and I think I've had a Kindle for about 10 years).

Already 82 degrees outside at 9 am.   Seas choppy, but not rough.   Upper tier event this morning at 10:30, and then lunch at Izumi is on our schedule.  🙂

Picked up another good book from the library, and there are actually two of them...the new one on 12 and the old traditional one next to pool tables on 6.  Plenty of relaxing time on days at sea to read in the cabin....plus making sure I keep an eye to the sea for our sea friends when they say hello.

A Kindle would come in handy here.
