  1. It seems from the Facebook Meraviglia group that the ship has already had lots of negative reviews & the food seems to be one of the number 1 grievances.

I filled out my questionnaire today & made lots of comments.

There's no doubt the Meraviglia could be a fantastic ship if they can get the food in the MDR right & address their customer service issues.

We did enjoy our Cruise & that Cruise was the best part of my hard earned cash so it did need to deliver. We definitely made the most of it & had to laugh at the bad bits & put it down to experience.

I really hope MSC will learn & improve.

Morning, just a quick question re the questionnaire - we've just finished completing ours. Did yours finish by redirecting you to their main page, without asking for any booking references and confirmation of submission? Thanks!!

  2. Shocking to think it may have been started deliberately! I, too, hope no-one's been injured - or worse!

Are you planning on doing a review, Leigh? I'd love to read your views on your experience onboard. It seems the food was less than stellar. How did you find the cruise, otherwise?

Perhaps - we had a few issues and will have a think of the whole experience once we're back home.

We've added a few of our thoughts on KiKi's review though in the meantime!

  3. It appears that those onboard Meraviglia at the moment were lucky to have visited Naples and Messina on Monday and Tuesday last, as wildfires in the region are causing problems:

Smoke is rising from wild fires burning on the slopes of Mt. Vesuvius volcano in Naples, Italy, Wednesday, July 12, 2017. Firefighters are battling wildfires throughout southern Italy, including along the slopes of the volcano Mount Vesuvius near Naples.

Hundreds of tourists at a beach resort in Sicily have been evacuated by boat due to wildfires that are blazing across a huge area of southern Italy, according to reports.

Additional military troops were being called in to help control the blazes, which civil protection officials and prosecutors said were likely to have been set intentionally.

A news agency quoted tourists at the Calampiso resort in San Vito Lo Capo, near Trapani, as saying they were being housed in a school because they cannot return to their rooms.

Other wildfires were encroaching on the Amalfi coast, on Mt Vesuvius and elsewhere.

We actually watched a pair of sea planes collecting water in Messina harbour and dumping it on the fires from onboard. No further than 2 miles from the port. It was certainly something to see! I hope no one was injured...../ seriously hurt.

  4. Leighglo & her lovely family were on board at the same time as us & this sadly was also our experience of the MDR.

I don't know how they cooked the scallops here but I'm sure they would have tasted better pan fried!

I have been lucky enough to eat at 1 & 2 star Michelin restaurants so if that dish was served up as the signature dish then most chefs would not want to be associated with that dish because it looked like something served up in a Harvester!

  5. I've answered my own question. A * means it is NOT included. Therefore no bottled beer, apart from Heineken: so only draught. Draught Tiger is good for me! Seems strange that they don't have an italian lager on draught though.

There are posts on another thread which say/imply that you cannot now get a glass of bubbles included within the package.... please tell me it's not true [emoji22]🥂

All menu pics I can see have no * by their prosecco offerings.

If you've got a drinks package (we were on the Aurea package (sometimes if the computer said yes!!!!) and my husband enjoyed a number of different beers on tap in the Brass Anchor - this is the only bar that offers a choice of drafts within our drinks package. All other bars it's only Heineiken. Downside in Brass Anchor is for non beer drinkers (i.e. Cocktail drinkers) where you only have 2 choices of non beer cocktails......however we popped across to the TV studio lounge bar across the way to get a full range of cocktails and brought them back to the B A as it had booths where we could play card games with the kids.

  6. Hi Yogoshady that was a blade of beef with celeriac purée & pomegranate & that's exactly what we got.

I'm not even sure that many people ordered it as it was on the other side of the menu!

It tasted nice to be fair but if that is the top dish then IMO it's not good enough!

I know a lot of people cruise for food but a lot of the dishes in the MDR were just not appetising to look at as they seriously looked like the food had been lobbed on & was often served warm.

Service last night took ages & we waited ages for bread & drinks & weren't even asked for top up's for drink.

I just got the impression that the staff weren't that bothered sadly.

The MDR last night was not a pleasant experience. It was noisy, crowded and tablets the waiters used didn't work. We needed to wait as the poor waiter had to struggle with the ordering system. Our drinks our order didn't come until after our starters were served. I had to return my prawns as they were cold and like mush! My husband asked about the celebrity chef special and the waiter suggested the main menu instead!

Would stress this was absolutely no fault of the wait staff / they work very hard but something seems wrong on board on the MDR.

Will add Earterly pics in a mo - we're at the airport!

Ps mushroom risotto was good and ordered as an extra side - my extra side didn't arrive....... nor did my son's side order of fries.

  7. All the attendant is bothered about is giving you the towels for the sun deck & that's it. Seriously & you get the idea that no one would probably actually know or even care much.

Case in example - we have had dinner moved to the buffet area the last 2 nights. We saw in the daily program that again we were meant to be in the buffet for dinner tonight, fair enough. We go to the buffet to be told the issue has been fixed but no one has told us this - communication is either poor or just hit & miss so please don't think we can't be bothered to ask. There isn't anyone to ask.

If it's not their job then you won't find out!

Dinner tonight for gala was at best mediocre.

This is the special main course created by a 2 star Michelin chef!

  8. We had that come up online too Rossco01 - Taormina is definitely a lovely place to visit!

We had the pleasure of meeting Leighglo earlier which was lovely & set the MSC world to rights & just when we things couldn't get much worse!

  9. Thank you so much for the info! Sorry to be a pain but is it only the sushi restaurant supposed to be included in the package and they just did you a favour letting you have teppanyaki? Or can you choose either? I don't do sushi but will happily eat teppanyaki!

We thought it was just sushi to be honest and the guy did us a big favour changing us over - we went back last night to thank the chap with a tip

  10. So we are up at the Aurea Top 19 sun deck. It's more civilised than the pool down below but you can still hear the noise & music so I imagine that the Yacht Club must be a haven of bliss!

There is a small bar on the port side of the top 19 sun deck. What the area doesn't have is little tables to put your drinks on which is a shame!

  11. First of all thank you so much for this review- it's been great to see one from a non-YC cruiser (as nice as the YC looks, we aren't in it!).

The food menus and pics from the MDR are a little concerning as to be honest I can't see much I would want to eat on them. You mentioned you booked the £50 3 dinner package in advance- did you just do this via the MSC website? So you get to eat at 3 different speciality restaurants, with a set menu to choose from? Did you have to book the restaurants and times once you were on board? Would you mind at all posting the menus from the others included in the package if possible? I did see this as an option to book but there was such limited information on it.

Yip we bought the dining package via the website before we boarded (in fact a couple of months ago!). We booked times once on board via the app.

We were meant to go the sushi place on Sunday night bit on looking at the menu, we realised there wasn't much our kids would eat. One of the waiters was really helpful and we managed to get a reservation at the tepenyaki place instead - I guess we timed it well. Sorry I didn't take a photo of the menu for the dining package but it was basically miso soup, followed by a small selection of sushi and cold salmon and then we had king prawns/salmon/filet mignon with veggies and rice. dessert was cooked pineapple and ginger ice cream - it was delish and a lot of food!!

We've still to go to Eataly (that's tomorrow night!) and looking forward to getting dressed up for the Eleganze night tonight!

    Hope this helps!

  12. wow,

The food in Butchers Cut looks so much nicer than the MDR. I think I might have to splash out on the 3 restaurant package. Is it just me or do all the MDR meals look like canteen meals.

To be honest, normally we just eat in the buffet in the evening on cruises. With kids I always found it the easiest option. Now the kids are getting a bit older I would really like the chance to sit down and relax and be served dinner.

Is the sun deck adults only or can the kids join us up there? It looks perfect for me, nice and shaded.

    L

Kids are allowed on the sun deck too - so it's ideal :)

  13. I'm hoping that top deck (or whatever it's called ) that charges, but is free for Aurea guests, will be slightly quieter for a little sun when the kids have worn me down

It's lovely and has never been busy - our kids seem to prefer it over the main pool. Although they love the slides!! I've posted some pics on KiKi's thread
