  1. We did this 10 years ago when Comfort Inn was only about $125 a night for 4 people. What a deal that was! We are going there again in January with our kids and considering it again. It will be $300 plus, but still not a bad excursion price when you divide by 4. (Just a heads up - when you book the hotel, be aware that there is about $100 worth of fees tacked onto the final price.)

When we went before, the ship was in port from 1 pm to midnight. So we went to the hotel, got our passes and set off down the sidewalk to Atlantis. We found the front desk - this place is huge - and they directed us outside to a towel hut to swap our passes for wristbands. Not sure if that's where they still do it. The walk from the hotel to the Aquaventure part is a considerable hike. If you have little kids, I would take a stroller.

Food there is expensive, but we found a hamburger deal that we all shared. No one was full, but we were ok until we got back on the ship.

After we spent the day there, we went back to our hotel room where we showered, changed, did some laundry (cheaper than the ship), watched some TV, and took a cab back to the ship. It was a great day! I will have to think through doing it and getting back to the ship by 5pm though, for our next cruise.

  2. We are arriving in March on the Carnival Glory. There are 2 families with a total of 10 people - 4 adults 3 teens and 3 kids. Is there someplace we can rent a beach villa for the day or something where we don't have to pay per person to get somewhere and do something? We have been there 8-10 times, but never with such a large group.

  3. We sailed on the Tropicale out of Tampa almost exactly 10 years ago for our 10th anniversary. I personally like a smaller, more intimate ship. We made some new friends and had lots of fun. Here are a few pics--sorry about the poor quality, these are pictures of pictures. Didn't have the digital stuff back then.

    The ship

    Our oceanview cabin

    Back of the ship

    Bridge tour

    Waterslide

    Ice carving demo

And I won a "24 karat solid gold plastic ship on a stick" trophy for Name That TV Tune. It still sits on my bookshelf.

There was a British cruise director that did Tom Jones impressions. And a comedian that was hysterical.

  4. I have used patches on 10 cruises and, thankfully, have only had mild side effects. It makes my mouth really dry, and I sometimes have a little dizziness after taking it off. I usually wear the last one for several days after the cruise to let it wear off, but I still have dizzy spells a week later sometimes. But the side effects aren't enough to keep me from using them. Just the memory of being really sick on our first cruise (before I got a patch) is enough to keep me using them.

Now, my best friend used one once, not realizing that it would activate her vertigo after taking it off. (She takes meclizine all the time to keep her vertigo at bay.) She had a bad episode then, but has not used the patch since, and has never been sick either. It would seem that since she suffers from vertigo periodically while on land, that she would be sick on a ship, but she is not.

So, I guess the moral of the story is, try the patch if you are really sick, but be on guard for the side effects.

  5. FYI--Majesty of the Seas doesn't have the pewter magnets. I tried to get one when we were there in September. The do have some of the other pewter items, though.

We are cruising on the Voyager of the Seas in a few weeks, and the Vision of the seas right after that. Anybody need anything?

I would like magnets from the following ships:

    Carnival: Inspiration, Celebration & Tropicale

    RCCL Grandeur of the Seas

  6. Just back--the Majesty doesn't carry the pewter magnets. The only ship magnets they had were the ones shaped like the ship. They had the other pewter items--money clip, key ring, shot glass, etc.--but I asked if they had the magnet like that, and they looked at me like I had sprouted antlers. I guess they just don't have the magnets on that ship. Sorry!
