I did a Princess Lodges rail tour that was completely separate from my cruise and loved it. I was glad we chose it instead of a cruisetour. There was no bus travel nor were there lots of organized group excursions or planned meals. We could pick the excursions we wanted at each lodge or book something on our own. To me it was the best of all worlds - hotels, train tickets and transfers arranged, leave luggage outside your door each departure morning and find it in your room at the next destination, but spend each day as you wish. To me, traveling every leg by train was way better than doing half by bus on a cruisetour.

The only problem is I want to visit the Copper River Lodge and the only tour that does it is a self driving one that cannot actually reach it next year because the road is out. I called and was told I would have to do either the 15 or 17 guided tours to get to that lodge.

  2. I am looking to book a cruisetour for next year and am looking for some advice from those of you who have done it. I am thinking of the 17 day because I want to visit Copper River but I also see they have a 15 day National Park explorer one. My main reason for doing this is to visit more of Alaska and most importantly the National Parks. Wondering what 15 - 17 day tours you've done and why it's better than others? Thanks in advance for your help.

When I read the title of the thread my first thought was, "what nightlife?" 😀

The only other thing I'll add is on occasion there will also be some sort of live entertainment in Horizons at 10:30, but that is not the norm.

I was on Regatta last month for 22 days and there was music in Horizons every night. It seemed the number of people depended on the theme of the night.

    Peter??

There are a couple of them

Peter Tredgett. His first Oceania cruise was 5/3/22 so he's not been with them long. he's on the Regatta and came over from Princess.

  5. I spoke to the agent at Oceania when I booked my cruise and he said he'd take care of the caffeine free Diet Coke or Coke Zero but I have not gotten a confirmation email. Is there an email I can confirm this at? This is my first Oceania cruise.

  6. I am taking my father on a cruise for his 80th birthday. He's a smoker and asked me what the fine is for bringing back more cigarette's than you are allowed? He had someone who lives in his condo complex tell him it's only $6 per carton and that does not sound right to me. He is not going to try to sneak anything past customs but plans to report everything. Any help greatly appreciated.

  7. I am going to be on the Oasis eclipse cruise. Lucky me I already had it booked when they changed the itinerary. I've ordered a Olympus M10 II and a Olympus 14-150 lens. I'll take it to the camera store once I get it to see what I need to make it ok for the eclipse and will hope for the best. The camera is back ordered and I was told to expect it August 15th.

  8. I was shocked by how good the photos from my Pixel were. I compared them to ones people took using the iPhone 7 and there was no comparison. Mine were way better. All these have not been touched up at all.c915f15beb76e44a20f593725dd0dbee.jpgff165a50bc3ab03e5e132f7d532d94c9.jpg3cb7cb1d1cff07a0fcd82ad98c637149.jpga742e3eec11bb59a38a9bec5c5030a87.jpg

  9. This is the camera I use. I like it a lot: the size, the weight, the variety of lenses available and pictures I can take with it. Instead of getting the 40-150, I ordered the Tamron 14-150mm, 3.5-5.8 lens. My friend, who has the 14-42 and 40-150, is annoyed by how often she needs to change back and forth, but your price would go up quite a bit. You're getting the camera and 2 lenses for under $200? That's a great deal.

Karen, could you possibly drop me a line to mommykim at yahoo dot com? I have a couple of questions I would love to ask you.

  10. Too bad they don't carry the Sony A6000/6300 cameras. ;)

Well, it's not a Sony but I did decide to go mirrorless. I plan to order the Olympus *****-D E-M10 Mark II Mirrorless Micro 4/3 Digital Camera with 14-42mm lens plus a 40-150mm F 4.0 - 5.6 lens. I can get all that for under $200 and feel it's a good starter at a great price to see if I want to go up from there. That said I am not ordering anything until I see what all the experts here think.

  11. It's not that I never plan to buy another lens. It's that I want to try a good starter and really see how much I use it and go from there. I am fairly certain I will buy another lens or possibly quite a few more lenses. Just trying to set up a good starter to see how much I really get into photography with a real camera as a whole.

  12. My Nikon D3400 ended up dying on me and I had to return it just before I left on my last 2 cruises. Long story short because I bought it thru Costco online I could return it but not exchange it. I returned it as it was completely dead and I did not want to have to deal with Nikon on it. Now it's time to replace it and I think I am switching to Canon because I can get the camera pretty much free because my husband has Office Depot reward $ and they sell Canon products.

I can get the T6, T6I or the T6S. I plan to get the body only and like get either the Sigma 18-300 F3.5-6.3 or Tamron 16-300 F3.5-6.3. I think either of those lenses would be a lot better for cruising than the kit lenses I could get. If I am wrong here or there are better lenses please let me know.

I automatically think the T6S is the best choice for camera because it's the newest but I don't have enough experience to know if that is correct. I pretty much plan to use this on auto. I want to get the camera that is best for me but also don;t want to waste $ even if it's only gift card $. Any help as always is greatly appreciated.

  13. The worst cruise I ever had was on NCL in about 2001. We booked a Pacific Northwest cruise out of San Diego for us and our then 5 year old son. We were assured that there would be a complete children's program for the kids. Well, the first surprise was that when you showed up at the pier in San Diego they put everyone on a bus and drove us all to Ensenada. It was a madhouse with people sitting on the buses that were turned off so no air conditioning for 3 and 4 hours and then having to wait another couple of hours in line to get on the ship. We were supposed to leave at 4pm and did not leave until after 1am.

We went to sign our son up for the kids program and found out that their idea of a full kids program was one that was open from 10-12 in the morning and 7-10 in the evening and that was it. The pool was also off limits for the kids other than from 10-11am. Older ship so no kids pool. My fault for not researching that but my son preferred to be in the kids program so I never thought about it. Our son who was used to RCCL, Carnival and Celebrity by that point thought we were keeping him out of the program for some reason and was not a happy camper. We ended up spending our time trying to keep him occupied with the games in the game room but we had to take him elsewhere to play them as you guessed it. He was not allowed in there.

It was the first and only cruise had I been allowed to take my family off the ship in the first port (San Francisco) I would have and just stayed there for a few days. I asked if I could and was told no because of PVSA though that should not have mattered because we left from Ensenada but my husband did not want to argue with them about it.

  14. But the person that does show up gets double points from what I've read?

This is 100% correct. Just have the second person no show and you'll get the port charges refunded in about a week. You will indeed get the double points but you might have to call and ask for the extra points. They're not very accurate on giving the extra points even when you book solo and sail solo.

  15. Yes, we did enjoy it! The cruise we stayed on for was to celebrate my parents' 60th wedding anniversary, so it was special. Prices were much more reasonable then. We ended up in a GS, which may have been our first one.

Hawaii has become my favorite destination.

You and me both. Can't say enough about how great the Radiance was except it would have been better had you been able to make it.
