I doubt there is a predictable difference between the two.  I am interested in the notion - folks who want to drive for a cruise rather than take a train or fly should consider your option - two one-way rentals can be a whole lot cheaper than pier parking.

I live 6 hours away from port. my plan is to drive day before embarkation. Sleep overnight 2 hours away from port at a hotel and then drive next morning to port. My family enjoy road trip.

I do see flying as option but flight prices are currently expensive maybe they go down 90 days before flight time.

As for pier parking, because of my corporate discount, I get cheap quotes for one way rental (same as regular rental) so it is more economical

  2. Sailing out of Manhattan cruise port later this year. I will be renting one way rental from AVIS neighborhood location near my home and drop off Avis neighborhood location near the terminal. Will pickup another one-way rental from Manhattan upon return.

There are two AVIS location about ~1 mile from cruise terminal i)515 W43rd St and ii) 153 W54 St. Pricing is the same for both

    1. Based on your experience, do you recommend one over the other?

    2. Does anyone of them provide shuttle (I am sure they dont but I could be wrong)?

    3. Can someone share their pickup/drop off experience at these location (Pickup during a day or disembarkation could get crazy with wait times)?

Just going to jump on here - this loophole for iPhones and iMessages, is it free then?

Is it on all Ships?. This will make communicating and coordinating with family on board very easy.

    we all have iPhone.

Yes, Teppanyaki and Moderno are included as well.  If you get any extra meals beyond your included Free At Sea meals, be sure to book Teppanyaki or Moderno FIRST.

Do Teppanyaki and Moderno also have complimentary meals for Kids under 12?

Here's an example of the value of a dining credit

When you are talking about you son, I hope that you are talking about a small child and not a teen. If your son is a teen, you should buy him a dinner package. No teen is going to be eating a free PB&J sandwich while dad feasts on Filet steak.

Thanks for sharing this. Yes my son is 5 yr old. My TA Confirmed exactly what you shared but they were not sure about Upcharge dinning like Brazilian steakhouse or Teppenyanki. Any idea ?

I booked a cruise the other day and the rep mentioned that there was going to be a double up promotion from June 1 to June 12, and it was for all cabins, not just balcony and up. Hopefully that's helpful info.

Is the cruisenext $250 for which we pay $125 onboard. Been a while I used it.

if yes then current CruiseFirst promo is equivalent to double up unless it has different terms.

Be aware that the MyVEGAS $750 off is money of that one guests fare.   It is not off the whole cruise.   So if your cruise fare is $675 for instance you only get that amount off the cruise.   I had thought it would be taken off the total amount of cruise before taxes etc. I stacked mine with a cruise first offer.  Otherwise booking was very simple and no hidden surprises.

I second that, I also did that yesterday. Very smooth process. Only downside, I was not able to use my TA since I was told that MyVegas is added as primary TA and they will not get any commission.

I used 750$ for a cruise and it took $648 off. Solid saving I would say. I had another $100 coupon in my latitudes account, sad couldn’t use it.

I'm reading the Amex offer & it says it can't be used for shore excursions. Does anyone know if that is correct? I needed to spend $84 more to trigger offer so I bought shore excursions. I'll go ahead & get OBC also if I need to before June 1.

What does the charge appear as? If it says Norwegian reservation US like the other charges then it should be ok but hopefully other with first hand experience can confirm.

    Purchased OBC is refundable.

You must cash it out on the last night before leaving the ship. You go to Guest services to cash out. You can not disembark with a positive balance.

You can use it to pay your DSC

If you have one room account, the room is charged and the OBC is used to pay all charges.

Thanks, As always very helpful comment.

Since you mentions Daily services charges, you can pre pay yours on the website to get to the $1000

I had been burned previously pre-paying DSC where I had a very bad experience and guest service was not able to adjust my DSC since I already pre-paid.

I decided that trip that its better to not pre-pay and pay it onboard based on the service I get.

  11. I was actually on call with NCL rep trying to buy OBC to trigger my AMEX cashback offer

Not sure if the Rep was not sure or misinformed. But the rep told me

    1. These are non-refundable OBC and wont be cashed out. I can move them to my next cruise but wont be able to cash them out

    2. I can't use these to pay Daily Service Charge

    3. They will be tied to my name and other guest won't be able to use them.

Can you confirm the process of cashing these out? Do you goto customer service desk and they give you cash or you use casino to cash these out?

I've done this a couple of times in the past. As far as I know you can only buy the OBC after booking and it has triggered the offer. I've bought as much as the max $1000 (2x$500) in refundable OBC and gotten the amount refunded while onboard in cash. They only let you do it towards the end of the cruise. It's basically a gift to yourself when you buy it.

I was actually on call with NCL rep trying to buy them to trigger my offer.

They are NON-refundable, and no, they can NOT be used (directly) to pay the Daily Service Charges.  But if you book an excursion on board, it will be paid first from the OBC, then after the excursion you will get the $50 Shore Excursion Credit (if traveling with FAS) applied to your account, which does pay towards the Daily Service Charges.

From my experience they only check that you have the shares when you apply for the credit, not when you sail. Though if you plan to sail NCL ever again, there's no real reason to get rid of them (unless you expect the price to go down).

can you use them in casino or to buy cruisenext?

Unless you take a (increasingly rare) sail-away rate where you don't have to decline the offers in order to not get them.

Touche, I dont see them marking Sail away rate anymore. What started as initially as limited time "Free at Sea" offer is a sale that is now always live.

I hate that they raise everyone's prices to offer these frills regardless of whether you need it or not.

Wish they bring back sail away rate, so we don't necessarily pay for things we don't need.

They way people are complaining about food and service in the Main Dining rooms, you might want to consider adding the Specialty Dining.

On the other hand, the way people are complaining about the food and service in the Specialty Dining rooms, you may want to consider not adding Specialty Dining.

    Hope this helps...

Lol, for me the biggest decision is that I dont want to pay extra for my son who will barely eat anything at specialty dinning.

For wife and I, for an extra $24(gratuities added to reservation) I think it is a good option to try since we never tried any specialty dinning on previous cruises

  16. Hi,

Can someone help me answer following question regarding Free at Sea offer - Specialty Dinning

    1. Are all specialty restaurant included in this offer on the ship or there are certain?

    2. Other than the gratuities that are added to reservation, are there any other charges that one has to pay when on the ship?

    3. Traveling with a Kid that is 3rd guest. I don't believe the kid will like the specialty restaurant. Can the Kid accompany us to the dinner without paying up charge?

    4. On a 7 night sailing, how many dinners do we get? Is it just one per guest?

    5. I assume that we have to make reservation at the restaurant like we would normally do once we get onboard or online prior the cruise?

Contemplating if I should add this to my reservation or not.
