  1. We started out buying Carnival insurance and have switched to independent insurance to get more medical coverage since Medicare does not cover out of country. Another reason we switched was that I read Carnival insurance does not cover pre-existing conditions. Does anyone know if that is really true. We buy independent insurance within 14 days of initial booking so that pre-existing conditions are covered.

  2. I did look at what you showed which was a nice sales brochure. Now I would like to see your Certificate of Coverage. I know of no insurance company in the travel industry that will pay you money when you have absolutely no money lost.

Someone a a cruise Facebook page she had received $1200 before they cruised due to port changes. She had the posted policy. If you paid for change of port coverage, you should certainly collect on it.

  3. Today the State Dept. has issued a warning not to travel to Cuba. All the info. is on the State Dept website. Hope this does not last too long as we have a cruise booked in the future.

Cruise lines currently go to a lot of places that have travel warnings. For a while, when we ported in Nassau, Carnival even gave us a printed copy of the warning the night before we ported there. The travel warning does not say tourists/cruise ships can not go there. The U.S. Embassy issues travel visas to the U.S. for Cuban citizens. Cuba issues travel visas for us to come into Cuba. They are still issuing the visas.

  4. Has anyone on a partial transit taken The Best of Cartagena tour.? I saw it available on the partial transit. We are doing the full transit and wondered what people thought of this tour. Is there another tour you took that you really liked? Thanks.

  5. It looks like this intierary goes Miami > KW > Cozumel > Miami. So even if they got on in KW, they still visited a foreign port (Mexico) before going back to Miami. So I don't think the PVSA applies.

(I know people are enjoying feeling superior over people making mistakes with their ID, but I don't think the $300 fee has actually been explained yet.)

Edit: so going from Miami to Cozumel counts, but going from Key West (in the same state) doesn't count? That sounds like some arbitrary law-making.

If they embark at one US port (Key West) and debark at a different US port (Miami) without visiting a distant foreign port they violate the PSA. Mexico, Canada, and most Caribbean islands are not considered distant foreign ports. The ABC islands are considered a distant foreign port which is why open loop repo cruises often go to one of those.

  6. They both start with C?

I think the point is they both have oppressive governments not especially known for upholding human rights.

RIght. We can cruise to Russia which also has a communist government. Your tours there have to be cruise ship tours or private tours that are government approved. I do not see much difference.

  7. The Hop on Hop off bus was a good value, and highly recommended. The T1 line stops right in front of the ship and is $10 Cuban, paid as you enter the bus. Its a 2 hour circle thru Havana, very good!

The T3 line stops at Parc Centro, its $5, and it gets on the highway and drives out to the beaches. Also very good and a little less that 2 hours. Then back to the ship on T1 Bus.

NOTE; T1 stops at Parc Centro, twice, once outbound (5 min from the ship) and again Inbound (2 hours around the circle back to the ship). Once you finish the T3 route make sure that you get on the right T1 that gets back to the ship in 5 min, OR you may find yourself doing the 2 hour tour again.

The Inbound T1 and outbound T1 stop on opposite sides of the same Parc Centro square, it EZ to see both stops, the square is not that big.

Is that like the Hop on Hop Off bus in Key West where you can get off the bus to do some sightseeing and then hop back on and go to another tourist spot for the one fee? Thanks

  8. Guys and Blue Iguana and Alchemy Bar will be added in dry dock. I saw this information on a website. Although there is no official word on balconies, if you are booking after drydock some of the OV rooms are not available for booking. Maybe balconies will be going there????

  9. Well that is disappointing. I used them for pretty much every Carnival cruise over the last few years and I had enough points built up to last for life. My last cruise I paid for everything from the fare, gratuities and Cheers with it; saved 10% across the board on the cruise.

Same here. I have $7,000 of the gift cards - enough to pay for the 28 days of cruising we already have booked, plus the gratuities and on Board expenses. I paid the deposits with gift cards, too. I thought about buying more before the program ends, but I read that they become inactive after 2 years. Anyone know if this is true?

  10. We are Platinum, too; however, I understand why they can't let everyone traveling with a platinum member board early with them. As more and more Cruisers became Platinum and Diamond, it became a logistics problem. Anyone in your cabin and minor children in another cabin can board with you. That seems reasonable to me. I would not expect our 3 kids, their spouses, and my 4 grandchildren to be able to board with us.

We are Platinum, too. I agree with you. People traveling with Platinum or diamond can purchase FTTF or meet them on the ship. If everyone wants to board together, the Platinum guests can wait and board with the others in their party. Some Platinum are upset that FTTF lets people board early because they have not "earned" it. (Personally, I do not have a problem with FTTF as it is controlled by allowing only a specific number of cabins.). Letting people board just because they are traveling with a Diamond or Platinum should not be allowed. There are so many Platinum that it would add a lot of early boarders.

  11. I'm terrible at online stuff. All I want to do is see the details of my trip, like cabin number, sailing date, dining time etc. I log on and put in my cruise # and click on "details of your cruise" and it kicks me back to log in again. Is it me or the website? Mind you, we don't sail until Nov 12th so I haven't checked in yet. Is that the problem?

I click on cruise details and that page comes up. If I then click on shore excursions or one of the other options, I am flipped back to log in. Several people on a FB page also are having that problem. Several have said there are less problems using a computer than an IPad or phone.
