First of all I apologize I know some of these have been answered but the search feature on this board leaves a lot to be desired.  My wife and I are not first time cruisers but first time to Carnival.  We know the jest of things but I have a few specific questions I was hoping to get answered.  We are booked on the Carnival Dream April 14th 2019.  We are both excited to try a new ship and are sure we can make a great vacation out of it.  I am a drinker but my wife is not so we do not get the drink package but may get the bubbles pack.

    1. (Wine Questions) I will take two bottles of wine with us.  These will be mainly for dinner will the MDR store my wine for me overnight like on Royal and Disney?  I understand there is a cork fee is that still in effect if I open the wine in my room and take the bottle with a cork in to the MDR? <-- this one is not a big deal.  I will always purchase more wine in the dining room I hear that they have a wine package for dinner is there a limit to how many bottles are purchased in a package.

    2. (Liquor Questions)  If I purchase the bubbles package can I make my own mixers with the soda i get for free?  I would purchase a bottle from the fun shop preboarding.  Do they give you a special cup for the bubbles package?  If not can i take my own tumbler?  Will they fill my tumbler at the bar/shop with the bubbles package? (will not take any of my Royal Tumblers)

    3. (MDR Questions)  My wife and I enjoy eating with people what is the best way to request this for the cruise?  I know we are in the minority but feel it is part of the cruise experience.  Can you order more than one item like we do on the other line if we cant make up our mind?  What time is the Sea Day Brunch and is it in the MDR?  Love the idea of a brunch over the wake up early to eat breakfast at the MDR on the other line.  We are not big buffet people.

    4. (Show Questions)  Is it hard to make the shows with the late dining time?   Any shows that are must see?  Is the Quest show the same Quest show that is on the other cruise line?<-- our favorite show of the week.

    5. (Dream Question)  What must we do or see on the Dream?  I have found a few things online but most of them just mention food.

6.(Last Question)  Any advice from people who have done both Royal and Carnival on what we should expect?  I will preface this with that we are very open to the new experience and are looking forward to the trip.  We are not the have to be fancy type to have a good time.  But looking at pictures of the boat I don't know what is not fancy about it.

Thanks in advance and Laissez les bon temps rouler! <-- I am a Texan transplanted in Louisiana

We have been on many cruise lines and we were shocked how great the food is on the Dream. Everything was nice and comparable to RC.

The Clue game was a lot of fun on the ship.

  2. Hi,

When does the FTTF passes usually go on sail for a cruise?  We really want to get them, but they are not available yet on our 2020 sailing.  No excursions are available yet either.  Does anyone know of the time frame?   We are booked on the Carnival Spirit September 8, 2020 cruise.  Thank you in advance for your help!

Besides the buffet, where else can you go for lunch on embarcation day (no additional charge)?

It looks like there will be a Guy’s Pig & Anchor Bar-B-Que and a Cucina del Capitano on the Sunrise and both will be free for lunch.

Guys Burger Joint should be open for lunch too I think.  I love those burgers!

  4. I am a checklist maker and a pre-packer. I have a small suitcase that I keep ”cruise” things in all the time. This suitcase only goes on cruises. A small fan, extension cord and power strip ect. just stay in there. I also have a few plastic grocery bags and various sizes of ziplock bags that can be used for holding anything. Probably needs more when my kids were smaller.

Question for experienced cruisers? How do you carry your sign and sail card? Do they provide some kind of lanyard with card holder? Or do people put them in their wallets? I'm imagining wanting to wander around the ship without a purse, and my kids don't usually carry wallets, so how do people keep their cards on them? Actually, because our room reservations don't match where we will actually be sleeping, both my oldest son and I are going to have to carry two cards with us -- one for charging and one for access to the room we are sleeping in. So double the consideration. 😉

We are a lanyard family.  We bring a hole punch with us so when are kids were little we could punch them right away.  Now it is just in our "cruise" suitcase.

  6. We are going on our 3rd Epic cruise and my sister LOVES the studio cabin. You need to try it, but you want to be on the same floor as the lounge area or you have to go up and down stairs to get to it, and with arthritis, I thought I would mention that. If you call NCL, they should know the deck it is on, but I believe it is deck 11 on the Epic.

We do not rush to get off the ship as we like to have a nice breakfast before we get off and we have never had a problem with waiting or lines. The same with getting on. We don't wait til the last minute to get back on and we never had to wait.

  7. Our family would totally find a card that sold 15-20 drinks on it useful. The packages that are out there are not for us since we just don't drink much, but would drink more if we bought a card. I remember when they had the smoothie cards. Those were a hit with our family!!!!!

  8. We usually fly the day before, but this cruise we are driving in. Hopefully the weather is good from Chicago to Miami. We did 2 cruises where we fly in the day of our cruise and we were so tired, it was not fun. Now with the winter we never risk it. Just not worth the risk.
