  1. You can check the ports cruise ship calendar to see how many ships will be in port the days your ship will be there. That might help you decide if you want to just wait and see what the weather is like, and what is available. Last year our weather was bad almost the whole week. I am glad I didn't pay $$$ to see fog.  Also Skagway was using tenders because of a rock slide at the port. Those are things to consider.

  2. We rented a car in Skagway and drove up the the Yukon. It is incredibly beautiful and the Tortured Valley is beyond words. There is a border crossing you have to stop at about 10 miles out of Skagway. Last year we had to show our vaccination app was current as well as our passports. Not sure about the vaccine requirements for Canada this year. Check before you go. Note: there is a time change when you cross from BC into the Yukon. We drove up to Emerald Lake. It was OK. You can get better pictures online. I wish we would have spent more time exploring Carcross.

Your name sounds so familiar.  I use to live in Portland.  Did you sell cosmetics or something from home?  I know off topic.

I live in the Pacific Northwest, but never Portland and I've haven't sold anything cosmetic for 30 years.

I'm not sure that I'd bother with the sat phone. The drive you'll do to Emerald Lake is the same that almost all car renters will do, and many, many tour vans/buses. Although I'd not call the highway busy or trafficky, in the remote case of a breakdown I can't imagine that it would be longer than 5 minutes before you see a car or bus.

Thanks for your advice We are renting from Avis in Skagway. Do you know the actual route to get to Emerald Lake? I fear getting lost in the Alaska tundra.

I sure hope it is legit. We test on Thursday for a Saturday departure. We have a PCR test booked as a back up but I’m afraid the 48 hour result turn around won’t come through in time. They aren’t offering the rapid antigen tests at CVS or Walgreens around us anymore. I can come back and let you know on Saturday.

    🤞🏼😱 😎

That would be awesome, yes please let me know. I am sure it will work, I just want to be sure.

  6. On Point proctored covid testing over the web, advertises that you can use any free government covid test and with a $10 payment they will proctor your test online and send you the results. Is this legit? Has anyone used them?

Thanks, we cruise in August and our town is shutting down our local covid testing sites.

  7. 🙄Hi all, I think I messed up when I just  booked Alaska 2022 by booking 'Alaska Experience' RC Alaska cruise. It does the  'inside passage'  and does not  mention going up the Tracy Arm or any other arm to any glacier.

I have seen the Dawes glacier going up the arm and it was fabulous. Should I rebook, or is this 'Alaska Experience' cruise just as good as the 'Glacier' cruise?

    Thanks,

We loved it. Another couple we sailed with on a different cruise had the aft corner balcony on Caribe Deck. We love that location but they absolutely hated it and said '"Never Again!"

It is a long way to walk to everywhere for some. But I love to walk and I love the view. So worth it.

  9. We absolutely love the aft. We did an Alaska in 09 on Princess with an aft corner cabin and our balcony was huge! The other thing we love about it is, you can sit out there and not get wind blown under way. You get a full 180 degree view of where you have been. We would have coffee out there every morning as we would pull into port. It was magical. Enjoy.

  10. Will my Verizon cell phone and my Tom Tom GPS work while in Aruba?

More than likely no on the cell phone. They may charge you exorbitant fees if you use it as well. Best thing to do is just use the wifi to communicate. You can use several different apps like Facebook messenger to call on the wifi.

  11. We had the aft corner balcony on Adventure last Dec. I would do that again in a minute. The balcony was huge. We had a nice table with chairs and also two loungers and still had tons more room. The ports are fabulous. Each island is different than the others. The only draw back was the room is quite the walk from the elevators and stairs, but that wouldn't stop me from booking it again.
