  1. So we just got home from our 9 day Bermuda and Caribbean cruise on the Anthem of the Seas that set sail on May 25, 2017. I don't plan on doing a long review, but I wanted to share some things I thought would help fellow cruisers. Also, I'd be happy to answer any questions.

We were on the same itinerary May 11th.At the expense of hijacking your posts - our comments. Totally agree about ship. She is beautiful but the esplanade has some serious choke points (like going forward after Sorrento's - always jammed up there

Add to that EVERY night was a sale - that got annoying

Dining - we had friends who kept taking us to Coastal Kitchen (suites only guests). Make friends with someone in a suite - amazing dining venue. Jamie's Italian is AWESOME. Even Chops was good. Main Dining room was meh. Windjammer was windjammer (although the routing youto sinks to wash your hands before entering is brilliant)

Johnny Rockets is takeout - no dancing waiters. AND SLOW!!!! 30minutes to get our orders

Ice cream machine was always empty

Coke machines frequently empty or simply not working

Bar Service -horrid. Hardly any waiters on pool decks or in the theatre - completely understaffed on our voyage

Cabin - amazingly spacious - well done. (Although shower door opening outwards is a bit of a pain if someone else is in the bathroom getting ready

Entertainment - BEST EVER. Comedians were incredible, Performers were great. Elton John guy was BEST ever. Rookie is an amazing band, U2 tribute band - incredible. Spectra's cabaret is weird as is the gift. We will rock you is good if you like Queen. Matt Yee at the piano bar was the highlight

Cruise director Dru - amazing. His staff not so much. Captain was very personable and everywhere. Always asking how we were enjoying th cruise

Sports deck - must check out BUT pay attention. Bumper cars are only on certain days (saves goes for all activities). Line ups are BIG - get there early.

Again, not trying to hijack OP - hope this is helpful

  2. Like it or not, that tip charge really does go to the staff directly. So by not paying that charge, all you're doing is hurting the staff. I do understand your feelings about it though.

Read the book "Cruise Confidential" if you want to know how staff are really treated. I preferred the old way of just giving them the tip directly - better odds they would actually get it. Sorry, don't trust the cruise lines to pass this along without something going in their pockets.

  3. With the understanding that most of the cruisers on RCI are really decent folks, the numerous "nothing wrong with it" posters on these types of "how can I cheat the cruise company" threads are one of the reasons I prefer premium lines.

Go over to the premium/luxury boards: few (if any) discussions of "rum runners," sneaking food off ships, crashing invited gatherings, stealing drinks, etc.

Sorry - just don't need those types on my vacation.

Well when you can afford the premium lines I suspect overpriced drink packages matter not so naturally, not going to see that discussion there.

To be clear, I am not condoning the act but making a point - for some on here, my wife having a few sips of my drink seemed tantamount to sending us off the ship at the next port of call. For those, I hope you NEVER waste any food in the windjammer or MDR and always hang your towels all week long.... honestly.

  4. Nope, never have and never will. Also, never stolen anything.

We had a neighbor once who said basically the same thing about cheating on taxes, the rest of the group, about 20 people just stared at him and said, Nope, never have.

People who think like you do are the reason there are rules.

As I said previously, PER PERSON is pretty self-explanatory. Unlimited, PER PERSON who has a package, not unlimited for all. Reading comprehension anyone?

Gosh, I hope you never go over the speed limit either. I bet you also never have an oversized carry-on bag. I am sure in your Utopian world with unicorns every thing is just swell. When did these board fill with holier than thou folks?

As for reading, I am quite capable thanks very much. (Oh, and I bet you read the entire cruise contract every time too). Give me a break....

  5. Really everyone?

You buy a package that says "unlimited" yet the system will flag you if you are going from one bar to another? And then you will get put off the ship? And maybe pigs will fly.

I am just of Allure. I bought a drink package. My wife did not as she does not drink very much. She had some sips of my drinks on occasion so according to this group of wannabe lawyers, we are thiefs that ought to have been removed from the ship at the next port. Give me a break.

I am sure all of you who jumped all over this person for asking a reasonable question never cheat on your taxes either.

  6. After reading more than 20 posts in 4 threads on this topic...all sorts of conflicting information seems to be surfacing regarding the onboard shows.

Allure is scheduled for drydock in Spain about a month before your cruise...so information about what changes happen post-drydock are inconsistent via different communication channels.

Several sources stated Mamma Mia would begin post-drydock, while other sources simply said "we don't know for sure".

At this point...asking again perhaps 30 days before departure might render a more accurate answer.

cruising on allure May 24 no mamma mia but rather "tell me on a Sunday" never heard of it before....

  7. Isn't the point here that if you are cruising in hurricane season, the odds are greater that you may end up being diverted? And isn't this especially true of East Coast based cruises? While I too would be disappointed with my route being changed drastically, I wouldn't be surprised by it.

My suggestion is to pack a few warm clothes in case things change at the last minute. We are talking weather here, that despite all the advances in technology, is still hit and miss by times.

Enjoy your cruise and hope Bermuda is your destination. if you get rerouted, just remember that the Maritine provinces in Canada are well known for friendly people and good times (trust me, I grew up there). :)

    Cheers

    CCC
