  1. ........I was worried - since I had completed the Personalizer passenger immigration forms, including setting up my onboard account with my credit card. Princess assured me that my info is secure - but it still shook me up that a travel agent went ahead and booked a cruise for me without my knowledge!

My agent does it all the time. It is how she can guarentee the price quote while I am thinking about booking. It drops off if we decide not to go ahead with the booking.

I have never had another agent or agency do it.... but then I pretty much deal directly with my TA. ;)

  2. My brother and I were on a European cruise with our wives. We were ashore in Corfu at a local tourist site when we got separated from our wives for a moment.

Two women came up to us and asked if we minded taking a picture with them. We were kind of confused and said you want a picture of the two of you with the two of us. They said yes. So... they were kind of cute... so we said why not. So someone took a picture of the four of us.

We asked why they wanted it. They said when they get back from their vacation they wanted to explain to all their friends and work associates about meeting these neat guys. So I guess we were going to be some kind of "romance story" when they got home.

Anyway, the embarrassing part was explaining to our wives why we were getting our picture taken with a couple of strange women when they walked up. :o

  3. These are obstructed view cabins...wondering if anyone ever had these....how obstructed are they. When viewing the deck plans they look pretty good actually...almost like a full view. This would be for the Ruby Princess.

    Thanks~

I assume you are asking about the Ruby Princess.........Yes... they look like almost a full view. This link shows a hi res picture of the area and what you would be looking over.

  4. Hello! I'm going on my first cruise in March and we got an obstructed view room- E619 on Emerald Princess. It looks like its going to be one of the worst obstructed there is...but I was hoping someone could post a pic of that room or a room close by?

    Thanks!!

It will be pretty much like billet's previous post. You will be looking through a tender (it would be better if it was a lifeboat then you would be able to look over it.)

One thing to be aware of is the crew regularly service the tenders. ;) So when changing clothes or coming out of the shower be sure the drapes are closed if you do not want to treat the crew to an unexpected show.

    Have a good trip

I guess it will look pretty much like this - pic of Golden Princess E624 courtesy of an earlier message 47 in this thread:

  5. Do you fly into Long Beach airport or LAX? I've flown to/from both, but not for cruises. Does Princess shuttle pick up at Long Beach?

We are doing both. I was able to get into Long Beach but could not find a convienent flight out. So booked an LAX flight home. We are having my brother pick us up to get to the cruise terminal but will have to get the shuttle to get to LAX (because LAX is way out of his way going home).

  6. ........But on a cruise ship, I've heard that patrol boats bring captains to vessels already at sea and swap captains, etc. I've actually seen it on people's video from their cruise. Do they change duty in the middle of a voyage?

Is a captain scheduled by the cruise, by the month, what? Anyone know? Just curious I guess

You must be referring to the pilots that board as a ship comes to port to guide the ship into port...... they also guide the ship as it leaves port. They then disembark the ship while underway by climbing down the side of the ship on a rope ladder and jump onto the pilot boat that comes along side.

  7. I remember skeet shooting from my first cruise in 1998. There was a pretty heated competition going on between two guys in different cabins to see who was the better shot!.....

My brother and I did it on our 1991 cruise. Problem was they had us shooting on the port side rather than the stern. We had a strong wind which drove the clay birds on a wild arc. You had to really lead them to have any chance of hitting them.

  9. ...........The lead shot and plastic wadding from the shotgun shells is strictly prohibited from going into the sea. The lead shot can be replaced by other materials, but this is very expensive...........

Lead shot was outlawed and replaced in the US over twenty years ago. The waterfowl (ducks and geese for instance) suffered from lead poisoning when they ingested the spent shot.

It was replaced with steel shot... but I am sure that would not be welcomed in the ocean either.

  10. I feel Bingo is the same as slots, gambling, etc., payouts aren't based on what is taken in. Where on the ship is Bingo offered - never played but wouldn't mind trying - when we go to Vegas (or gamble on the ship or whereever), we take X number of dollars to spend knowing that we don't expect to "win". It's entertainment for our holiday.....

Let me start off by saying... I am not a gambler. That said......

Someone who "doesn't expect to win" is an almost guaranteed loser. For a "serious" gambler, every game of chance has a predictable expected return. Picking games with a higher expected return means your "entertainment dollars" will last longer.

Slots, table games (like craps), card games (like Black jack) have predictable odds based on the house rules being played. Odds for these games are also effected by their payouts (1 1/2 or double for blackjack for instance).

Your chances / odds at the blackjack table are not by how many players at the table. Bingo is different because not only are you playing against the house, you are playing against your fellow players. The only way to provide a true game of chance that has a known expected return is to increase the payout as the number of players increase. If that does not happen... then it is a sucker bet.

  11. Sorry, but I always strive to be an informed consumer. For every dollar I spend, of course I think about the value delivered! Don't you? Just because I'm on vacation doesn't mean I stop trying to be an informed consumer! I'm perfectly happing buying photos, cocktails, wine at dinner, and shorex. I understand the value delivered on these items, even if the cruise line is making a healthy profit. Am I happy with the overall value of a cruise vacation? Yes. Will I ever spend another dollar on cruise bingo? Probably not. Again, your mileage may vary...

Truth in Advertising.... some games like the Bingo Coverall offer enticing jackpots. The part people do not understand is the astronomical odds of hitting it within the alloted number of calls. http://www.homepokergames.com/bingoodds.php

Those jackpots always go to the last day...... "when the jackpot must be won"..... before getting a winner. All those folks coming before the last game are making sucker bets.... yet they still keep coming in hopes of winning it before the last day.
