  1. We were on Encore over Christmas and New Year’s last December. There was caroling in the atrium though it didn’t roam around. Plenty of special menus in the MDRs on the holidays.

Overall, we enjoyed it but will probably leave holiday cruises to the families. It was very crowded and could get out of control (football in the atrium lounge for example).

  2. I am also thankful for being privileged enough to take my upcoming cruise vacation with NCL. It will be our first real live vacation in 34 months that hasn’t been dedicated to a CT—>FL move, some medical stuff, or doing nothing much during pandemic. 12/23 can’t get here soon enough! 2023 will bring a move back home but for now a great vacation is needed!

  3. When we sailed the Dawn, we missed a few things to be honest. Primarily we missed the Spinnaker lounge from the Jewel class ships and the waterfront from the larger ships. We did like the pool deck though; the tiered areas were pretty cool. Staff, service, and restaurants were great as always.

    Hi all,

Really looking forward to my upcoming cruise on the Getaway. I’ve a couple of questions I hope you may be able to help me with!

    -  we have 2 days at sea to get from NY to reach San Jose. Any ideas how rough the seas will be while sailing south? Should I bring sea sickness tablets?
We have had anything from smooth to pretty good rollers, so take any meds you may want just in case.

    - I’m booked in a studio cabin on Deck 11. Would I be better to try and upgrade to a cabin mid ships lower down?
    This location should be fine.

    - I’ve cruised on Celebrity before and so used to changing for dinner. Just wondering how informal NCL really is?
We tend to go business casual for the evening except with shorts if not dining somewhere that specifies otherwise. Everything from super casual to not quite cocktail is seen. Basically wear what you’re comfortable in.

    - how soon can we expect to be able to sit out on deck? Do we need to wait until we are actually in the Caribbean or can we hope for one of the sea days to be ok to be outdoors?
Depends on weather and your tolerance.  I’m generally in shorts the first morning but not out on deck until the next day.

    - wondering about avoiding the queues for getting on the ship and arriving later rather than earlier. What time would you advise or is this a bad idea?

We’ve had mostly good luck at the port but have not sailed from there prior to pandemic so no good advice from me.

    Thanks in advance!

Mostly enjoy your cruise. New York is our favorite port to sail out of and can’t wait to get back!

Dear Valued Guests and Travel Partners,

We are delighted you will join us onboard Norwegian Breakaway very soon.

As we return to sail, we are doing everything we can to make your experience truly spectacular. To that end, we are requiring all guests to re-watch the pre-boarding safety video, which you first viewed during online check-in, before you set sail. This will ensure a smooth embarkation process at the pier. The video can be found here.

We appreciate your cooperation and we look forward to welcoming you aboard!

    Katty Byrd,

    Senior Vice President, Guest Services

Ha! And be ready for it to auto-play the extended version the first time you turn your stateroom tv on! If you’re lucky like me, expect it to error and keep trying to play several times.

  6. Thanks for all the great replies here, knew I could count on solid answers.

Adding nightlights and an extension cord to my cart now then adding a call about the distilled water.

Looking forward to watching them enjoy everything and I’m excited to experience a Studio since my wife can’t take time off for this one. It’s my first back since 2/2020!

  7. So I am not a first timer though it will be my first solo-ish one but my mom (76) and her husband (82) are. I want to make this whole thing as easy as possible for them so they can just enjoy everything.  Taking a 7 day on the Getaway from Canaveral (GSC, St Thomas, San Juan, DR).

CPAP machine - What do they need to bring and do I need to work with accommodations desk beforehand?

As a solo booking will I be able to make dinner reservations for 3?

Does the Getaway have any outdoor smoking area for cigars?  I think I remember Spice on other ships had a corner.

Any suggestions for making it a good experience for them are welcome. They are easygoing which is awesome.

    Amy
