I got the 50% off as OBC, refundable. It was added automatically. Discovery Princess.

Additional datapoint. No platinum discount via app; purchased pre cruise at full price;  automatically reimbursed 50% as refundable on the Island Princess pretty much immediately once I was on board.

You still get the sound of the wake to lull you to sleep. I know I found some pictures of it online when I booked it. I’ll look and update if I find them again.

This thread has a picture showing the beam and space in front clearly. It doesn’t show the size of the covered area well though— and I remember that being surprisingly large.

  3. We have sailed in its twin B750 and were pleased. I offer two caveats: 1.) We booked the cabin as part of an upsell and therefore felt we paid a fair price for an aft view obstructed. 2.). I’m not much of a sunbather so enjoyed sitting in the covered section with a book.

Views from the room are compromised by the beam, but when you go out on the balcony it has two areas basically. The covered section is first, then the beam, then a small section in the sun front and center on the rail. It holds two chairs for sunset drinks, but not much more. Majority of the space is in the covered area behind the beam.

  4. We are thinking of getting an inside cabin on the Sapphire for Asia. 2 ladies celebrating their 50th year 😀 so we can't afford too splurge on the room.

    Lido deck sounds great...

    Any other suggestions please ?

For me, it depends on the ship's layout and climate of the cruise. I also don't get motion sickness in most circumstances so I'm pretty flexible about where on the ship.

Mostly, like mentioned I look for quick and easy access to an open deck. Lido is always right there, but don't forget about the aft decks and interior cabins that are just a few steps from those decks ( and bar;)).

The poor Island Princess lost her back decks, but did gain some interior rooms that practically open onto the promenade deck.

Finally, if weather isn't really outside weather, those interiors on Plaza deck are nice. The international cafe makes a wonderful neighbor.

Browse the Sapphire's deck plans, find a couple of possibilities and then post your questions. Someone will have stayed in the room! :D

  5. The coax feeds some sort of controller box and from there an HDMI cable then feeds the TV. It's tough to actually see since the TV's are pinned to the wall so securely. On our last trip someone had popped the TV somewhat loose so it was much easier to access the wiring. I was using it to view my own movies (their input only) but it became tedious to keep switching inputs for the regular TV, so I quit.

Wonder if a hdmi switch (not splitter) would work so once you were set up, you would just need to flip the selector on the switch.

  6. Try it-- then, you'll know where it fits on the convenience versus cost savings continuum for you.

I roughly estimate a 1.5 oz pour per shot for drink and the room service bottles delivery approximately 8 pours, which makes a shot of room service liquor cost in the neighborhood of $2.50 per shot (2.3 according to the calculator, but let's round up because we pour more generously ;)

So that is your basic savings versus buying direct from the bar--the mocktail cost plus 2.5. It would probably bring it in range of the Happy Hour B1G1, but not limited to happy hour location and time.

Only you can judge what is worth it. For one or two drinks, I might not bother, but for my daily Bloody Mary, I'm game to save the cost.

  7. I travel with solid sunscreen that comes in what looks like a deodorant container. No worries with air travel. SPF 50 is what I use.

Simply "paint" it on, and I do smooth it over after applying--learned the hard way after one beach day resulted in interesting pinstripes along my leg.

  8. Be careful as it's a really long trip into Paris and back. Most of your day will be spent waiting for the train if you can even get on! Many people have gotten stuck not getting back in time to even see the boat sail away! I recommend a ship excursion if you even attempt this. Otherwise, entertain one of the shorter distance excursions!

OP is doing the full disembark at LeHavre. It is fairly common because you can end with some extra time in Paris, and avoid LHR's extra fees. Well, at least that's why I considered it. :p

Sorry I sounded like such a snob. I'm not really.

Didn't take it that way on my end. Just read you as a man with strong opinions about his whisk(e)y. And if we should ever happen to be in the vicinity of the Salty Dog at the same time, well, I think we should split that handle of Johnny Walker Blue ;)

But seriously, at the price, I think I'd rather drink all 15 pours of the Talisker 25 yr bottle-- I'd come out ahead, and I think it's the better drink.

  10. That is just the menu for the whiskies and whiskeys at the Salty Dog. Most typical cocktails are $8.95.

Oh my goodness, thank you for clarifying this!

I like that Princess has added the whiskey bar, but oh, if I had thought that was representative of all the drink prices, I'd have to start drinking water. ;)

  11. If your cruise is 10 days or longer there should be Silver and Gold wine packages available. You can save up to $8/bottle with the Silver package and up to $17/bottle with the Gold package depending upon the price of the bottle of wine. With the discount it is cheaper to buy wine on board that bringing it with you and paying the $15 corkage.

We're doing a b2b this April with the first leg at 14 days and the second at 11 days. Do you know if I purchase the wine package for the first leg, will any unused punches carry over for the second leg?

  12. Princess only pretends to sell scotch. They offer Cutty Sark and Johnny Walker Red. If you want to use them in a mixed drink you might be OK but scotch drinkers generally don't do that and those are totally unacceptable.

:o Ah, yes. I do think it would be nice if they would treat whisk(e)y connoisseurs with the same respect given wine lovers. Where is our corkage fee for our personal selection of carefully curated drinkables?

That said, I did once have an enjoyable evening at the Wheelhouse on the Crown with a lovely 25 yr Talisker as my companion.

But a screwdriver, rum punch, or Bloody Mary? Throw some of that mass market swill in there-- I'm good. ;)

  13. Knowing your individual capacities for each drink a day, you may know if the AIBP, Unlimited Soda & More package, Coffee Card, BOGO $1 or pay as you order is more appropriate for you.

Completely agree. Whenever we talk about the pros and cons of the different options, I rarely see mentioned that Princess sells 375 ml hard liquor via the cruise personalizer for you to have in your room. It's not fancy liquor, but acceptable for most simple cocktails. Again, depends on your cruise style, but it's another option in one's personal mix and match.

  14. Anyone used one of these on the Dawn? The U.K. one specifically with a uk to Australia plug adapter. Wondering if there is enough clearance to use at desk as Australian plugs are upside down compared to uk ones

Double check the surge protector on that. Mine looks a lot like that picture, and it has a built in surge protector.. And surge protectors, for reasons I do not try to fully understand, are not supposed to be used with ship's electrical systems.

I hope you decide you enjoy cruising. I wasn't sure either, but at the end of my first cruise with Princess, I was already making my bucket list of cruise itineraries to come.
