  1. Yukon Rail/Bus + Dogcart experience with Chilkoot Charters out of Skagway. Fantastic 8-hour excursion, taking the White Pass & Yukon Route train from Skagway to Fraser, BC, then switching to a small bus for a drive from Fraser into Yukon to Caribou Crossing for an included lunch and sled dogcart ride, then taking the same bus to Emerald Lake before heading back to Skagway.

The scenery was so beautiful there were times that I just wanted to cry. We were a small group of about 20, given the last car on the train, with informative guides on both the train and our bus driver. Stopped for wildlife - bears - and had plenty of time for lunch and wandering the small museums and petting zoo in Caribou Crossing.

Which side of the train should you sit going from Skagway to Fraser for the best is?

  2. Our ship will be in Juneau on Monday, July 11. The forecast for Juneau that day is partly sunny and 72 degrees. We have booked the whale watching and wildlife excursion through Princess. I'm not sure where they take you to see whales, but we picked this excursion because of the larger boat and hopefully less movement for people with motion sickness. My question is, since it will be about 72 degrees, will be need a heavy jacket and will it feel much cooler on the water?

    Thankss for your help.

  3. Just got off the Crown this morning. Our cabin showed some wear and tear but I didn't notice anything in the public areas. We really enjoyed dinners in the main dinning room. Breakfast in the buffet was good. Only ate lunch a couple of times at the buffet and it was disappoi nting. Liked everything I tried at the International Cafe. We didn't see any of the shows. I hope this helps!

Is there a charge for the I ternate all Cafe?

  4. We leave in two weeks on the Grand. I just received an email from the cruise director Adam Love mentioning the exciting entertainment on the Grand. I don't remember getting an email like this when we went on the Crown last year. So exciting, nice touch.

We leave in a week on the Crown, and I also got an email today from Dan Appleby, cruise director, with information about entertainment on the Carown. I thought this was a nice touch and the entertainment looks great!

  5. Can someone tell me if you can use the princess app (that lets you keep in touch with other passengers) on The Crown? Also, how does this work so that you are not actually using your phone on the ship and incurring outrageous charges?

    Thanks!

  6. We will be staying downtown Seattle pre cruise. WHat are your recommendations for transportation to the ship (Pier 91). THere are four of us with lots of luggage. THe hotel we are staying does not have a shuttle to the pier. Also what is the earliest time we could board?

    THank you!

  7. You will start on Seattle time and remain on it for the first sea day. That night you will move your clock back one hour to Alaska time. You will remain on Alaska time throughout your Alaskan ports. The night after leaving Ketchikan, you will move your clocks ahead an hour to be back on Seattle time the day you arrive in Victoria.

Good luck with taking an online course while on a cruise. Internet service on the ship will be slow, unreliable, and expensive. When I have taken tests for online courses, I had to do it within a certain time frame (ex. 1 hour) and if you had internet connection issues before you were done, you were screwed.

Thank you so much! Yes, I am concerned about the on line course, but hoping for the best.

  8. We will be on the Crown to Alaska out of Seattle in a couple of weeks. I am in

EST time zone and Seattle is 3 hours behind ESt and I understand Alaska is four hours AHEAD of EST. Just wondering what time zone the ship will be on during the entire trip. WIll it be on Seattle time, since that is where the ship leaves, or will it be on Alaska time for excursions, etc. This is a concern for us as one of our group is taking an on line course and has to have work submitted and tests taken by a certain time.

    Thank Yiu!

  9. We will be on the Crown to Alaska in a couple of weeks out of Seattle, and wondering what time zone we will be in. I am in EST time and Seattle is 3 hours behind EST, and I understand Alaska will be 4 hours ahead of EST. What time.will the ship be on during the entire trip? WIll it be on Seattle time as that is where ship leaves from, or will it e on Alaska time? This is a Concern to us as one of our group is taking an on line course and will need to have work submitted and test taken by a certain time.

    Thanks!

    THanks.

  10. There are 3-4 ways to get from SeaTac to Pier 91. I'll go briefly through them here. (Note: Prices stated below are current as of this year (2016.)

    1. Princess shuttle motor coach. There will be personnel at the baggage carousels to meet you and they will make sure that your bags have ship's luggage tags on them and the bags will be loaded on trucks and taken directly to the pier where they will be processed through security, loaded on the ship and delivered to your room. You will be given health forms to fill out and those will be collected when you go through check-in. You will then be loaded on motor coaches and taken to the pier where you will go inside and processed onto the ship. First bus will depart the airport for the pier around 9:30 or 10:00. PLEASE MAKE SURE THAT YOUR TRAVEL DOCUMENTS ARE IN YOUR POSSESSION AND NOT IN THE BAGS THAT ARE PUT ON THE TRUCK!

    2. Seattle Express or Shuttle Express. These are smaller motor coaches that can provide transportation from the airport to the pier. Your luggage will be loaded onto the coach and you will take the bags into the luggage hall or you can get a porter at the pier to take them in for you. If your ship's luggage tags are not attached to your bags, you will need to stop at the clerk's table outside Door #1 to either have tags made or your already printed tags stapled to your bags. Cost for Seattle Express is $12/person and cost for Shuttle Express is $17/person with one free person under 17 for each person over 17. (Website says $22 for Shuttle Express, I was told $17 in an email from them.)

    3. Taxicab. Yellow Cab is, I believe $50-60 to pier (flat rate) other cabs, I don't know prices. Make sure that you inform the cab driver that you want to go to Pier 91 and not Pier 66 or you may end up at the wrong place. (Not a good way to start our a cruise!!)

Does anyone have suggestions as to how to get to Pier 91 from downtown hotel? THere are four of us with lots of luggage, and the hotel does not offer a shuttle"

  11. We are scheduled on the Crown to Alaska in July. I have been suspectible to motion sickness from a very young age, cars, elevators, escalators, boats, planes, etc. I have cruised before and have been subscribed the patch for behind the ear. I also have meclazine and the sea bracelet. I have been vey sick before on smaller ships and have had to use all three. My question is . . . what is your experience on Alaskan cruise from Seattle. I have heard it is much more rocky than the Caribbean. We also have booked whale watching in Juneau, but booked through the cruise ship because the boats looked larger. Please share your experiences.

    Thanks.

  12. Ketchikan - Crab Fishing on the Aleutian Ballad of TVs "Deadliest Catch" fame. The stop to feed lots of swooping eagles was a photo bonanza and the demos for several species of crab were informative. The stories from the fishermen about filming the TV show were hilarious. Covered and heated seating were a plus,

Is there a problem with motion sickness on the deadliest catch excursion?
