I just got this from Princess for the repostioning on the Enchanted

    ITINERARY CHANGE

In light of the recent attacks by Russia in Ukraine, Enchanted Princess will no longer call to St. Petersburg, Russia on Friday, April 29 and Saturday, April 30, 2022. Instead, we have added an additional day and overnight call in Stockholm, Sweden on Monday, May 1, which allows us to berth in a more central location and experience the beautiful archipelago as we cruise into the city. Additionally, we have added a call to Visby, Sweden on Thursday, April 28. As a result of these changes, we have adjusted call dates and times for Helsinki, Finland and Tallinn, Estonia. The itinerary listed below does not yet reflect these changes, and we will send you a full, updated itinerary next week once our system has been updated.

Guests with Princess shore excursions for St. Petersburg will receive a refund to the original form of payment. Tours for Visby and Stockholm should be available to book within the next three weeks. We look forward to taking you to these new destinations can't wait to welcome you on board.

Hoping our May itinerary (which has been stated as having the same changes as these, according to Princess' FB page) will also mean a change to the central Stockholm berth.  I was wondering how an overnight would work if we were still going to be berthed in Nynashamn for Stockholm.

I would also add to cancel your St. Petersburg tours ASAP…. I cancelled mine yesterday, and have my 200$ deposit back today. I sent an email, and they sent back a very nice and prompt response. However, I wonder if They may not be able to transfer money soon, or refund deposits.

I have SPB excursions booked with Princess directly and have been trying to cancel them.  Can someone please point me in the right direction for how to do this?  I'm sure it should be straightforward so I apologise if I'm missing something very obvious, but I can't figure it out!

    TIA

Also, use the Casino as a free ATM with benefits.  If you get cash back or points on your credit card - those will be earned as well.  Go to a machine, create and charge your casino account, play a bit, cash-out and go to the cage to get cash.

All the machines on Princess will take US cash $1-$100.  As noted, payouts go on your casino account.  The tables (BlackJack and those other games) with a live dealer will take cash or can charge your casino account for chips.

NB:  the casino doesn't count your losses or even your winnings for future perks - only your "drop":

"For a casino, the drop is the money (or credit) exchanged for chips."

Also what you charged on the slots or other tables.  So the more you churn through - even if you never play much of it, will be counted towards your drop.

    If I’ve understood this correctly…

So I could exchange $1000 for chips but not play a single game - then cash them in at the end of the cruise and that $1000 would still show as my drop? And the bigger your accumulated drop, the more chance you have of being offered a future casino credit?

Seems the best thing to do, and it’s easy to cancel an excursion and get refunded.

That's encouraging to hear - I don't want to be committing to bookings now when so much could change in the way destinations restrict shore visits.  As long as cancellation / refund is an easy option I'd have peace of mind that we have something booked but can switch our tactic as circumstances dictate nearer the time.

I would work on the basis that it will be the same as now but if it changes for the better you will be happy you made the decision to book

Yes, we’re planning things in the event that restrictions stay in place as they currently are and we won’t be allowed off the ship unless as part of a PandO excursion.  If this changes, then we would prefer to tour independently (apart from St Petersburg).

I think we will book St Petersburg excursions now and hold on for a while before confirming any others.

Thanks to everyone for the input; it’s much appreciated 🙂

Yes I would secure what you want for St Petersburg now to make sure you don’t get just what is left.

As for the other ports it all depends on the berth your ship has been allocated.

Copenhagen it very much depends on the port you are berthed in. Two are in the city centre with a convenient walk into town (about 20 to 30 minutes) and another is miles away and requires a shuttle. Check the port authority to see which you will be docking in. The one near the little mermaid, Langieline (sp) port is the most common one and easy to see the sites from on your own.

Tallinn has always been a short 15 minute walk into town every time we have been there (could have changed of course so again check the port maps).

Helsinki is walkable but a bit longer so a shuttle may be useful unless like me you like a decent stroll.

Stockholm also depends on the dock, once we were a long way away at Ninasamon (sp) and the next time right in the city centre.

Kiel is very walkable. They even prove you with lines throughout the town showing you the way to where you want to go. Choose the colour for your destination, if memory serves it was blue for the town centre.

You probably know already what you want to see but the folks on here can give good suggestions depending on your interests if you don’t.

    That's really helpful, thank you!

...Which Baltic ports are you going to? Some are really easy to do DIY (if it is allowed) and others you would probably want to book a tour anyway as they are further away from the dock or more difficult for example to do on your own eg St Petersburg.

We'd definitely want to book an organised excursion for St Petersburg, so I may go ahead and secure that one / two there anyway.  There are a couple of others where P&O are offering the 'Tour on your own' excursion which seems to be just an organised coach drop off -  currently these are being offered  for Copenhagen, Stockholm, Helsinki and Tallin - and these are the ones we'd choose if we couldn't do our own thing.  So actually, that leaves only Kiel - I'm not too bothered about the actual port, but know we'll be desperate to get off the ship here after the first few days at sea!

I certainly wouldn't book anything this far out. So much can happen by next May.

    Where are you cruising to?

It's a Baltic cruise and most of the ports are ones we haven't visited before.

From the small print I've seen online, it sounds as though we should be able to cancel any excursions we have booked if we change our mind - I certainly wouldn't book this far out if that were not the case, as I agree with you that so much could change before next May.

I guess I'm not a big fan of uncertainty!

  9. As per the title - would you advise booking and paying for excursions now for a May '22 cruise?

I'm torn between tying up the cash now for something we may not want to do if restrictions are eased (we'd prefer to do our own thing at a lot of the ports), or holding back on booking but risking being left with only expensive excursion options if others have sold out.

Any advice from seasoned cruisers out there?  (Although I appreciate that no one is really experienced in the current way of post-COVID cruising!)

  10. We’re looking at booking a balcony cabin on Explorer 2 for next May. The price for a cabin sleeping a maximum of 3 is quite a bit lower than the price for a maximum of 2, and I’m wondering what happens if there are only two of us and we book the category for 3. That’s assuming the booking process would allow us to name only two passengers for that category of cabin!

Will we be able to select a cabin number which is marked as for 2? (I know we have to pay to select a preferred cabin number). Or will we be able to choose from only those marked as 3 berth, and then risk being moved if a party of 3 want it?  From the deck plans, there seem to be many more cabins for two than for three.

Just trying to maximise the spending pennies 🙂

  11. The ordnary AI drinks package on Dream is nowhere near as good as on Discovery 2 e.g. no choice of wine (just house Red, White and Rose plus Prosecco), far fewer cocktails and bottled beers (e.g. Dry Martini has a supplement whereas it is included on D2), and less branded spirits. Cick on this thread and scroll down for photos of the menu https://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=2584084&highlight=Dream+drinks+package

That's disappointing to hear; one of the things that impressed us on Discovery2 was the choice of AI wines.

  12. Thanks, Mr Jim - Lots of great info in your review, thanks!

... eg,if you happen to secure a drinks package Discovery trounces the Dream on whats on offer although enough for us on Dream to get by...

Do you mean the AI offerings on Dream are not as good as on Discovery? We thought the Discovery2 AI selection was excellent, and hadn't really thought about the possibility that it might not be the same on other ships.

  13. We too queried whether the 'formal' night still takes place on Dream and have been informed by Marella pre-travel services that it does; Dress To Impress seems to just be on the Discoveries and Explorer.

Sailed on her last year and still had the Gala, but to be honest did not notice any difference to the dress to impress on Discovery other than on Dream they enforced no shorts in the MDR, same amount of DJs and evening dresses most cruisers dress smart anyway.

    Thanks, both

  14. Thank you for your opinion - it pretty much reflects what I had guessed from the info I've read, but it's good to hear someone else's take on it too. One concern is knowing that we enjoyed the larger, less formal set-up on Discovery2, and might not appreciate the more traditional, personal approach which seems to be why some people prefer the older ships.

I'm also having trouble getting a clear answer to whether or not there is still a Gala Evening on Dream, as I thought I had read they'd changed all ships to 'Dress to Impress', but can't seem to find it in black and white anywhere.

I think you need to experience it yourself as everyone's idea of what is a good holiday differs

Absolutely! How will we know unless we try it? ;)

  15. All balconies have the balcony above them, so a slight overhang but nothing like on explorer.

Have a look at the new brochure and see the pictures for yourself, also the deck plans will show the different layouts and cabin numbers for you.

Unfortunately, I'm having trouble getting hold of the new brochure here. The last time I asked in our local Thompson shop, I was told they 'hope' to have some in on 24th . I've been trying regularly since the brochure came out but no luck so far .
