  1. See you onboard the Legend.

Will be with themedforme who as you know is from Dallas. Many tips to give you when afloat.

Shopping with the Chef is great.Galley tour, bridge tour and the best is trivia, only on sea days.

  2. Many thanks Johnny,

I hope Karl will be onboard when I get on August 12th.He was the best Maitre'd and is now a Hotel Manager,Is his wife with him,she is a spa beautician on the ships.

Osso bucco is a favourite onboard.

Have you tried any flambe dishes cooked at your table yet?

  3. About 25% wore tuxedos, another 40% wore dark (black/dark navy) suits and the rest wore elegant casual (jacket required). Just rough percentages as I was unable to secure the table by the entrance.;)

On this cruise we have four resort casual nights, two elegant casual nights and one formal optional night.

Will be happy to provide a full report (even a list of included wines) on a new thread once the cruise has finished.

    Cheers,

    johnny

    Johnny,

can you tell me who the Hotel Manager is at present on the Legend

  4. Henry

Well dressed is in the eye of the beholder.

And if black tie or dark suit are now "required" for the dining room and Restaurant 2 as Robert says, then why are they calling is black tie "optional?"[/QUO

    Henry,

Could it be because they are suggesting a tux or dark suit

    One,or the other?

  5. There goes the neighborhood.....:eek::eek::eek:

The great unwashed have been sited more frequently at increased numbers and with Wal-Mart pricing it can turn into a stampede.

During the Sojourn world cruise, Seabourn sold small 7/10 day segments within & between Australia and NZ ports in the local market only, as the ship filled up while the service and the character sharply declined. It was discovered that these short-term pax, paid somewhere between $175-$200 per person, with some world cruisers paying double that and more. As word spread and the savvy ones who complained, received hefty refunds and credits.

We will see more of this I am sure :(

  6. IMHO, Oceania is NOT a luxury brand but a "wanna be brand" positioned in between mass market products such as Princess, HAL and Celebrity and Luxury Lines such as Seabourn and Silver Seas.

That's what I said, they are just below the luxury level, but that said Seabourn is by far the best value in the industry with record low fares which, with the all inclusice deal make it much cheaper than the Hal's and celebrity's of this world.

  7. IMO Seabourn will have an over capacity problem in 2012/2013 and pressure to fill ships which should bring down rates.:D;):D

Yes you are right but it does not help a luxury line that needs to keep the standards high,it could possibly ruin a luxury line that has to cut costs to survive.

I think that prices should be higher so that the standards do not slip, but over capacity is going to be the real test and not just for Seabourn,Silversea are also giving their cruises away at present.

Oceania is in a good position now as they are just below the luxury level but with good new ships.

  8. Hmmm. Does Seabourn now administer IQ tests to determine which passengers might be capable of intelligent conversation? Or perhaps one has to flash a Mensa card to find presumably articulate table companions. Failing that, how does the maitre d' establish the likelihood of interesting table pairings?

Are you suggesting that the maitre d', who is no doubt a fashion consultant of high order, focuses his eye upon a couple as they enter the mdr, awards them a barely passing grade for his not wearing a Kiton cravat, and banishes them to a table in the farthest reaches of the room--Seabourn's Siberia?

The maitre d' on the smaller ships might perhaps might know that this guest is a bore, or that one an enthusiastic tippler who swiftly finds his jokes more amusing than do others in the vicinity. But it strains credulity to suggest that anyone can establish the expectation of charm, wit and humor from the brief appraisal of a couple entering the mdr.

Do you think perhaps the clue is in the accent?

Who knows the mind of a Maitre'd

Could be any of your reasons that he might take into account.

  9. ...would you take your tux?

Yes,I always have a Tux with me on every cruise and also a couple of suits and a linen suit and jackets and a blazer.in fact I travel with most things for most occasions.

If others want to dress down then that is their choice,I prefer to keep the standards up.

  10. .And if you end up dining with an officer on one of these evenings you will notice most of the male guests are in tuxedos.

A good Maitre'd knows who to seat with whom.;)

  11. I don't agree. We were in Room 803 on the World Cruise and besides being slightly smaller, it also had the overhang of the bridge overhead. The same situation occurs in 805 and 802/804 on the port side. The bridge juts out approximately 20 feet and as such makes it very difficult to view the sky. I would say that these suites have obstructed views and should be avoided if possible.

As you say,the bridge does shade these four suites but I don't think that they qualify as an obstructed view suite.

Seabourn would have to put a disclaimer in the brochure like many cruise lines do if suites are obstructed by lifeboats and equipment.

  12. Just a point about the dress code for those that are new to Seabourn.

Yes,Elegant casual is always welcome and you will feel comfortable durng you vacation but on formal optional evenings you still find a lot of guests dress up in formal attire.

The larger ships less so, especially with a lot of seven day itineraries.
