  1. We‘ve been in 1523 on Solstice and it was absolutely silent

Thank you for saying this! I’m an up late and dance person, but also a sleep-in on daze I can person! I also saw a doc of cabins and that number seems to get solid reviews, more than 1519 even, tho that’s maybe just who’s posting.

Thank you for helping me make a choice I always dwell on go easier, we have not done Aqua yet so I want it to be a great experience.

    Happy sailing!

  2. The 1530's portside are very quiet because they are under the acupuncture place. You can't get to the spiral staircase from that side of the ship, only the starboard side, so it does not impact you at all.

Thank you! The staircase looked like it’s only accessible from the starboard side but I would never assume anything from the layouts on the celebrity site. This small amount of info helped a lot! 👍🏻

  3. Out of these would anyone suggest the best one or two? Mostly concerned about noise from the deck above (gym/spa/restroom) but also curious just where that spiral staircase comes out? Is it right outside one of the cabin doors? #1504, #1506, #1508, #1516, #1519, #1523, there are also a few past this; but I think that starts to become an area under the pool. Thanks! :)

  4. HI, we will be flying back from Maui to Toronto after our cruise. Flights stop in Vancouver, just wondering if that means we need to clear Canadian customs in Vancouver? I would guess the answer is yes but not sure. Just trying to figure out how much of a layover we need.

First point of entry you clear customs.

  5. Look just because you think it’s silly doesn’t mean others do. I enjoy frozen drinks. They melt and the liquid is on the bottom. They don’t taste the same if you try to drink from the top. Also some people have very sensitive teeth that hurt when they touch ice. Don’t be so judgy. They had an issue they wanted to share right away. I for one appreciate the heads up.

    Problem solved!

  6. Plastic and paper straws can be recycled.

This is just a ridiculously cheap cost cutting move and could backfire by becoming the poster child for NCL nickel and diming.

One would need to know which plastic they were made from tans they’re not marked— almost all plastic straws are not recycled.

  7. I'm on the NCL Jewel and just ordered a frozen Bushwhacker at the pool bar. The bartender brought it to me and apologized that there is no straw.

I thought at first he meant they ran out or just didn't have any, but he went on to explain that the company said to no longer give out straws.

It's not easy to drink a frozen drink without a straw.

And this is the third day. I had no issues in earlier days of getting a straw. I had to ask for one each time, but I got one.

So I'm not sure if it's just a pool bar thing or a shipwide policy.

    To whom do I complain?

Straws are bad for the environment. .

  8. We are scheduled to sail on the Solstice 9/14/18. I have been reading lots of reviews that the ship is in poor condition with an overworked and unpleasant staff. I am wondering if this is accurate or an over-reaction? Any recent experiences? I thought the ship had a big dry dock in 2016 so I am surprised to hear it is not up to par.

    Thanks!

Traveled on the Solstice in 16’ and 17’ and will be in 18’ too. She’s in fine shape, our cabins have been good/clean, public areas very nice. All our experiences with the crews have been only favorable, from the officers down.

  9. Hi all,

I apologise in advance if something covering this question has been answered before, but my Search Fu might be lacking :P

I have a simple question: how crowded does BodyGlove get on cruise ship days?

My wife and I will be in Kailua-Kona with Celebrity Solstice. We normally like to organise excursions independently with local operators, but the factors of time, distance and occasional abandonment of tendering at the port leave us really only willing to look at the shore excursion offered by Celebrity, which is supplied by BodyGlove.

For people who have used this excursion through a cruise line, how crowded does the boat get?

We're just trying to weigh up the options of a snorkeling trip or an alternative tour at this stop.

We're booked with Sail Maui in Laihana, so we will get some snorkeling in on the cruise :)

    Cheers,

  10. Started Weight Watchers after the first of the year and really don’t plan to keep up with my daily points once on board when I looked up a Mudslide and it was 42 points! The premium drink package alone is going to do me in. Throw in Cafe Baccio and there’s just no point! We’re booked on the 31Mar, 04May and 16Jun Equinox sailings so I think I’m doomed! Does it help that we’ll be dining in Blu? Just kidding....I plan to get a lot of walking in to earn me all the Fitpoints I can. Has anyone even attempted to count points on board?:')

I’ve done girls cruises the last two years and I think all of us lost a little weight, even tho we drank a lot of cocktails I wouldn’t normally come near on land. [emoji38] I know I lost two pounds (one week cruise) last year. We also chose active excursions and walked the loop on deck/used the gym/didn’t use taxis etc. I like room service in the mornings— remove the temptation of grazing the buffet, and then a burger and salad for lunch or salmon and chowder(Alaska, any fish is perfect for lunch). Dinner we just ate what we wanted, ordered all the mains/desserts and shared them, I really like to request at least one dish from a special menu too. Enjoy... then hit the club after to dance as much as possible! [emoji1323] Try to have cocktails where the points are coming from the alcohol not the mixers, those purées they use have a million calories, as does any creamy liquor. I like tequila muddled with lime then a soda water splash. I also do wine spritzers. Have lots of fruit throughout the day and bring your own breakfast bars or such for port-time munchies— unplanned eating is the enemy. You have those extra points which will go fast, but you can also gain all the exercise points so it’s do-able! Allow yourself one or two cheat dinners too!

  11. We’ve booked an Alaska trip on Solstice in August 2018. Haven’t paid anything yet due to no deposit at time of booking. Will have to pay full amount in May. We currently have booked a outside cabin. We know it rains at anytime in Alaska or could be cold or warm on any day. We would still have a large window in the cabin to view the shore and could always go up to a deck sporting a great view if we wanted to. But, we’ve always had a balcony on cruises to the Caribbean and we’ve enjoyed it. However, it rained most days on one of our cruises and having a balcony was pretty worthless. My question: would it be worth $500 extra to change our cabin to a balcony?

From flying up to Southern Alaska with my now x-husband who is Haida (First Nations) over many summers that have been both sweltering hot (mostly due to sun and reflection) and cold weather, it’s what you like. I can tell you August is typically in the mid-to-high 60s, so if this is cold for you that makes a difference right there, I like a balmy day and ocean air in the morning.

I’ve done this cruise the last two years, both cabins with terraces— once on the starboard side of the bow and once on the aft of the ship— we had our door open a lot of the time, even while raining. I love having this option, fresh air/view without getting formal clothing on (anything more than jammies) but I’m also an outdoor person who hikes and camps, even in winter. I like to pre-order breakfast for the morning at the glacier, and not be up on a deck viewing with others, but I must say the helicopter viewing area always looks fun too. This cruise goes by quickly— because there’s so much amazing to take in, and there’s no overnights— so you’d be fine without a terrace. 500 will pay for a sweet helicopter ride over the glaciers and some nice chowder. That you’re asking this question makes me wonder if you don’t already know deep inside what you want to do... ? I am curious now what you decide! [emoji846][emoji1303] Enjoy!

  13. I'm not sure why you want to see Alaska considering your feelings about Seattle and Portland. It's never a sure thing you're going to see whales, you will not likely see The Northern Lights from your suite and rain is always a possible/probable in Alaska.

  14. Hi. I did a search, but did't come up with anything. I was wondering which purses to take on our cruise coming up this weekend. I have a large brown purse to take on the plane and other places when I feel the need for it. A black clutch for evenings. Question on the 3rd purse. I have a medium black one that I like, but would really like the robins egg blue that I have. Is the blue one out of place for this time in the winter? Thanks for your help.

If anything, Robin's Egg Blue is a wonderful winter color, and with tropical clothing can hold its own. What type of handbag is it-- hobo, satchel, cross-body, bucket…? I would think unless its "luxury special" item (meaning you can already picture yourself with it on your trip) just stick to your big travel handbag and the small clutch. (And leave your wallet at home-- use the clutch as your wallet-- one less item to bring along.)
