  1. I originally was going to book on Celebrity because of the "sticker price" but... really ... when we talked about excursions, transfers, flights, specialty restaurants.... PLUS... it's an 11 day cruise vs 7 days... we decided on Viking.  Such a fantastic experience... great ship....excellent service... and  not 3000 people on board!

  2. We did end up at the Rendezvous Resort on St Lucia 1/21. We took a cab for $13 from the port. It was around $60 pp for 6 hrs but they had a few other options. The plan we paid for included drinks and lunch. We easily found 2 chairs under a palm tree. There were water toys available for use, a couple of beautiful pools and the beach. The grounds were lovely! The beach didn't have that pure white sand and aqua colored water...but it was lovely. Drinks from the restaurant bar were much better than the ones at the beach bar. There are no children on this beach other than a few local kids who were enjoying the water. Lunch was a buffet and very good with a variety of chicken, beef and fish. We decided to walk back to the ship which took maybe 20 mins. There were sidewalks the entire way. I would highly recommend this as a beach option for those who are looking for a quiet day on the beach. I would also consider this as a resort to visit for an extended stay!!

  3. We also disembarked yesterday. They gave us color coded tags to put on our suitcases which we put out the by 10pm the evening before. Our flight was at 2:00 and had to be off the ship at 8:15. We waited in a public area for them to call our "color". Left the ship... got our suitcases and took them to the bus. We flew AA. You can only use the kiosks 4 hrs prior to your flight. We could go into the line to have your boarding passes printed. AA was not ready for the amount of people that invaded the airport. Because it was early...it was hurry up and wait. Someone mentioned that on another cruise line they had a tour that you could take early. I just wish there was something we could do to occupy the 5 hrs we spent at the airport. Got home at 10pm... It was a long day!! GREAT CRUISE!!!

  4. Thank you Spaniel lover for your wonderful review. I do have one question. I have been on some beach excursions where we were packed in like sardines. Can you tell me if you experienced the same issue with the beach excursions offered on the viking? My husband is hesitant to do any beach excursions because of our previous experiences. I feel as though what better place to visit the beach!!! Any advice would be appreciated. :)

  5. Thank you Din929 and Peregrina651,

We leave San Juan and visit Tortola, British Virgin Islands (Road Town, Bridgetown Barbados, St. Kitts (Basseterre),St. Martin (Philipsburg),St. Lucia (Castries), Guadeloupe (Pointe-à-Pitre),St. John’s, Antigua St. Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands (Charlotte Amalie)... you can see it is quite port intensive!

There are some interesting excursions offered however while i will do excursions, i'm not a fan of tour buses and would rather do some on our own... but then there is always the fear that we'll get stranded someplace and miss the boat!

  6. Perhaps there is already a thread. Cruising on the Viking Star in January. Are any of the West Indies Ports accessible to town or sights by foot or is a structured tour or excursion necessary? Thanks!
