  1. I understand the need for the occasional unscheduled dry dock for emergency repairs, but renovations should be scheduled in advance, in my opinion. I would be extremely annoyed if my cruise were canceled due to unscheduled renovations. I feel the same way about charters. They too should be scheduled in advance and not disrupt previously booked cruises. Having vented, I feel better now even though I know nothing will change as a result. I'm sure the cruise lines consider customer anger in making their decisions.

Yeah I always thought they scheduled these things years in advance before the cruise schedules are made. When I heard the voicemail I thought it was some kind of scam. I had never heard of this happening for renovations, just repairs and the person that called had a foreign accent which is usually another cue that something isn't right.

Once I called and confirmed that it was not a Nigerian prince trying to steal my vacation we were ok with it. Wish we could have fit one of the replacement dates in our schedule but such is life. Looks like we are going to Bermuda on a brand new Summit.

  2. Did you have to re-price that change? Or did they allow you to move for the same price you were going to pay for the canceled cruise?

We had to pay the difference and they gave us some onboard credit. Since we live in eastern PA it ended up being a little less considering we don't need airfare, hotels, and parking fees now.

  3. We were also booked on the Summit, ours was for Feb 16th. The email we received from our TA said that all sailings from Feb 16th -March 29th have been cancelled. Only gave a few dates in Dec and then March 30th and a few in April that we could change to. Not good options for us so trying to find a different ship and itinerary. Unfortunately the prices are so much higher then what we booked the Summit for.

Not a real happy cruiser right now as we had booked this one with friends that have never been to the southern caribbean.

We were in the exact same scenario. Had friends coming that were new to X. All of the similar sailings were way more expensive and we were restricted to that week because it is spring break. Ended up booking the Summit in May to Bermuda when it comes back.

  4. We got a call today that our reservation on the Summit was cancelled for a trip to the drydock. We booked another cruise on Summit when it comes back. Anyone know what they are changing? If I'm not mistaken it was just in drydock a year or two ago.

  5. I can't speak for the NCL ships but I was on the Celebrity Constellation last March 5th and it was wall to wall spring breakers. That ship is known for being a much older crowd. Any time you offer up free booze the kids will swarm regardless of ship or destination. We learned the hard way to not cruise in March.

  6. I was on Celebrity last year and they had a huge selection of beer. I'm not a big beer drinker but I never heard of a lot of them. Had to have been be 100 different beers. I know you beer hipsters only want beer brewed on the third Thursday of April under a new moon by a blind one armed Nepalese man in Oregon using 75 different hops and the tears of meerkat but I'm sure you would find something you like there.

  7. We are on the Magic on the 7th as well. It really doesn't look like the storm will hurt our trip too much. It will either hit land on Sunday and head north or get pushed way out into the Atlantic. Seems like it all depends on how fast the front from the west gets to the east coast. As of right now Disney has not made any changes.

  8. Thank you for your feedback. I did not realize it was a 5 course meal. What did you order? Great service is very important to me so I am happy to hear you had a wonderful experience.

We went twice and were able to try several things. The smoked salmon and peeky toe crab parfait was my favorite thing all week. Ate it twice. The pork belly and goat cheese souffle were also good for appetizers. The venison was so-so. The duck and veal were outstanding. The amuse bouche (?) were different every day and I don't know if the cheeses are the same from sailing to sailing and ship to ship or not but they had a very good blue cheese and a soft double cream cheese that I forgot the name of. And just like with the Tuscan we thought the Italian wines were the best on the list, even over the French.

  9. Is there any chance you took a picture of the Bistro menu? Also, did you feel the Oceanliners restaurant was worth the upcharge? On the video, your meal seemed a bit underwhelming. Thank you.

My wife and I thought the Oceanliners was worth every penny. The food and service couldn't be beat. The portions may seem small but it's 5 courses and you don't walk away hungry.

The Tuscan Grill on the other hand was not worth it. We booked it for the first night after we were on board for a discount of $32 pp and it was still not worth it. It is touted as an upscale steak house but you can get a better steak at Outback for half the price. They did have some good Italian wines though.

  10. Last one...

We will have a rental car while in town and we are dropping it off at the budget rental office on 17th st. Trying to figure out if it would be a pleasant stroll to the port or if we should get a cab from there. Seems like that depends on which terminal we need to get to. How do we find out which terminal?

  11. First post! Thank you to the community on CC. You have been a wealth of knowledge.

My wife and I are going on our first cruise on the Constellation 3/5 and I an curious about a few things that I have not been able to find answers to.

We have the premium drink package. Will we be able to take drinks from the mini fridge or will they charge us for them?

Does the TV get regular American cable channels, specifically AMC and Cartoon Network?

I know I know, no one goes on a cruise to watch TV. I am however going on a cruise to relax, not have a schedule, not have any responsibilities, and be waited on hand and foot and sometimes vegging out watching TV counts as relaxation. We also don't think it will be possible with social media to go that long without someone spoiling next Sundays Walking Dead ;)

    Thanks!
