  1. Thanks for the report I have been waiting to hear from someone who has actually been!

Given the convenience of the location and lack of vendors seems it might be worth a try. Looks like plenty of loungers but was there plenty of shade? Sand fleas can be an issue anywhere on Roatan on any given day.

I’d say give it a try. The sand fleas are definitely an issue on Roatan anywhere so that kinda makes it not an issue I guess, lol. They had pretty of loungers and shade seemed to be 60/40. We didn’t get there until around 11 that day and it was pretty crowded so they didn’t have an umbrella for us but we did get out near a tree that provided some shade. They did have other stuff that we didn’t try out as we were there mainly to swim and snorkel. The whole port for us that day was kind of a bummer as Roatan is our favorite stop but it happens! Enjoy your trip and let us know how it goes! Ps I also recommend Victor Bodden tours. We did a private tour that basically took us all over, and playing with the sloths ended up being our favorite part of the day!

  2. I’m so sorry, we got busy when we got home and I forgot all bout it. The resort itself is beautiful. Music, dancing, the Buffett ( which was really just a plate served to you with different foods) was good and decently priced. They had plenty of chairs and the service was excellent. But! The beach itself is horrible. It wasn’t bad, just ok. There seemed to be lots of sand fleas, and it’s not really in one of the prettier locations. We’ve done West Bay before and all we could talk about was how incredible the water was. You could snorkel right there off the beach. At Sol Y Mar that was t the case. Maybe it was just that way the day we went, but I’m not sure. If you are going to sit on the beach and relax and just play in the water it’s fine. If you plan on going for spectacular water and snorkeling I would go elsewhere. I’ll include some picture and you can decide for yourself. I will say this, it was very nice not having vendors constantly coming up to you. WiFi was spotty but otherwise they were an ok resort.

  3. Can I ask what kind of things you sent and if anything shrunk or was damaged after? I keep hearing only send undergarments and things like that as they just use hot water and things might shrink, etc..

I sent underwear, swimsuits, shorts and a few t shirts. We really didn’t have anything that I was worried about getting messed up. They came back clean and folded. I was happy with the service.

  4. We used Victor Bodden both times we were in Roatan and they were amazing! And cheap!! Leave the kids at Camp Ocean if you can in Belize and enjoy the tubing or do like we did and take a rum tour. Another option for Cozumel is Paradise Beach. It’s $3 to get in and $18 if you use the water toys. They also offer other services I believe and have a fantastic pool!!

  5. We just got off the Dream last Sunday and I had the value package. It wasn’t very fast, definitely not good for uploading any kind of pics on FB although Snapchat did load a lot faster. It worked for what I needed it for which was basically fb messenger and Snapchat.

  6. We just got off the Dream last Sunday and I used the bag special twice! I think it was Wednesday that they offered it to us. It was so worth it. My steward told me to roll my clothes so that more would fit in there lol. The first time I admit done that but the second time I got quite a bit in there. It was easy and convenient! I would do it again in a heart beat. They also offered 5 bags for $50.

  7. We will be on the Carnival Dream on 6/3 and are bringing school supplies to leave in Roatan. Now several other people in our roll call will also be bringing some for us to donate. Any suggestions on how to go about getting these to the Rotary booth in port? Is there anything special we need to do?

  8. Tip the room steward the VERY FIRST time you see him. Let him know who you are and in what cabin. You'll get better cabin attention then waiting until the end ....... We always do this and they are very appreciative. Cash on top of prepaid grats.

How much do you usually tip them?

  9. Yeah I'm glad I saw that, otherwise that's probably all my son would have brought. He doesn't like the feel of anything "stiff" or denim-like but we have lots of time to find something before then. I'll get myself a nice pair of sandals for dinner and leave the flip flops in my room. :)

Don’t know if this will help or not, but my 13 year old lives in Nike shorts. But they have to wear khaki shorts and pants for school. So he wears the golf type khaki shorts. They have a lighter almost athletic shorts feel but look like a nice pair of khaki dress shorts. Academy has the BCG brand shirts for under $20. That was our solution and what he’ll wear for our cruise in June.

  10. That's not what I read.

    I read this "

insuremytrip.com got me better coverage for $140". GOT ME BETTER COVERAGE

    This "

I don't purchase my insurance from the cruise lines either. But, for people to make blanket statements that 3rd party is better is just flat out misinformation at best.

For most of us, 3rd party insurance better meets our needs and budget, but not always.

3rd party insurance pricing is based on age.

3rd party insurance never includes CFAR, it is an additional rider that you pay for and it MUST be purchased within X number of days. Can't get it last minute.

3rd party CFAR must be declared within 48 hours of departure. Some cruise lines allow CFAR up to sail away.

3rd party CFAR only offers a Future Cruise Credit or refund somewhere between 50% to 90%. Princess Platinum offers 100%

3rd party Job Related cancellation is additional cost. Not so with some cruise line policies.

I was simply telling the OP that checking for a different insurer after final payment might be better option as it was for us." reads completely different and is much closer to the complete truth.

My bad. I didn’t know I needed a law degree to offer my opinion on a forum.

  11. When I chose my time slot for my cruise on the Dream, the earliest slot I could see was 11:00am. I had FTTF, and I arrived at 10:00am anyway. There were already several people there.

If you have some kind of priority, you can show up as soon as the port opens. I don't know when the building opens for arriving passengers.

That’s good to know! We’ve got FTTF and wasn’t sure what the earliest time we could get there.

    Carnival Dream 6/2018

    Carnival Liberty 4/2016

    Carnival Conquest 7/2013

  12. But it’s not the exact same coverage. Comparing Apples to Oranges.

Nobody was arguing that is was the same coverage. I stated that for us the different insurer provided better coverage of what we needed at a great price. I was simply telling the OP that checking for a different insurer after final payment might be better option as it was for us.

  13. The only benefit that wasn’t the same or better was that Carnival’s luggage replacement was up to $1500 and the coverage I bought was $500.4cc9b8b91dc302a1442d80a78e803a42.jpgd7b9f600522376600b941bd5230e8fe3.jpg

The pictures I’ve included shows what most of my benefits are for $140 and what Carnival’s is for $400. My biggest concern wasn’t trip cancellation or luggage replacement but medical coverage and evacuation. May not be optimal for everyone but it definitely is worth it for us.

Edit: I misquoted the baggage replacement and the amounts. I meant trip cancellation coverage was different. Sorry about that. I’m still learning the in and outs of trip coverage.

  14. I’ll accept that you saved close to $300 but please explain the “better” coverage.

I know you didn’t get Cancel For Any Reason or Cancel For Job related issues which Carnival does provide. So what was better?

If you want to say, I saved close to $300, that’s okay. If you want to say I got higher medical limits, that’s okay. But, you also gave up some coverage
