  1. Hello,

I wanted to ask if anyone else was having the same trouble I am or if I'm experiencing a 'glitch'.  Today I went into my Allstate rewards account to purchase Carnival gift cards (10% discount) and there is no travel gift cards available any longer (that I can find). Wondering if the program has changed and they no longer offer travel gift cards, or maybe it's been moved to a different area and I just cannot find it (screen shot added).

  2. Hi there!

I have a question you may be able to answer...

I’ve noticed when you book a cruise it puts the other travelers in your party as TBD (with your last name). The only name actually specified on the booking confirmation is mine as the one booking it but the other two guests say last name-TBD1, last name-TBD2 (or something like that).

Does anyone know how long you can keep it like that? The reason I ask is because I’ve read before about people getting hit with crazy fees to change the name of someone who ended up not being able to go and because they booked under an early saver rate they were charged quite a lot of money.  But if you don’t actually put a name to that reservation until closer to check in when you’re sure of who can travel .... anyone know if you’re allowed to do that ?

Thanks for sharing any thoughts on this.

  3. If you were limited to just one thing while in Bonaire what would it be?

Looking for something that will appeal to kids (ages 10-13) and adults alike.

We are in port from 1PM to 10PM so maybe something that is unique to being there in the evening?

    Recommendations for dinner?

    Thanks in advance!

  4. Hi!

I've read through so many great posts here but I am really on the fence on which beach to choose.

We will be in Aruba in Feb from 8 am to 4 pm. Our group will be 4 adults and 4 kids (ages 10-13).

The kids will be happy just playing on the beach; swimming and what not - the adults will be happy with food and drink - of the potent variety ;) and would also welcome being able to rent chairs and having restrooms available.

We don't mind some crowds but would rather it not be so crowded that we have to trip over people just to get around.

Taxi or bus doesn't matter as the costs seem to be reasonable either way. - mostly concerned about getting back to the ship on time :)

For those of you who have been to Aruba, which beach would you recommend?

  5. Hello! I have heard that it isn't always necessary to book your excursions via the cruise ship but you take full responsibility for getting back to your ship in time for sailing....

I inquired with a snorkeling company about a trip while in Bonaire but they said local vendors cannot book with cruise ship guests directly - it violates a contract they have with the cruise line.

Is there some secret to booking excursions? The cruise ship is more than 2X the cost of booking direct! I wouldn't mind a slight markup but that is just absurd! We are going with friends and they are a family of 6 so that markup will really hurt them badly!

Any suggestions for a new cruiser looking to save a few bucks?

  6. Different paths... :)

Make that 40 years for me and the first thirty with Minolta. When KM pulled out of the camera business, I stayed with Sony. I had a couple of bouts with buyer's remorse and took a lot of heat from friends in the CaNikon camp for the first few years but my choice has finally paid off with Sony on a roll now. Heck, they even make most of everyone else's sensors. Who'd have predicted that 10 years ago?

The good news it that it has become almost impossible to make a bad brand choice these days. Competition has all of them pushing the limits of the tech and everybody that clicks a shutter is a winner because of it.

Happy shooting...with whatever's on your list!

    Dave

Dave, I came very close to making the same decision and sticking with Sony, very happy with Nikon but do miss my 7000 at times. To this day I maintain that Minolta had some of the very best glass out of anyone.

    Have a great night!!

  7. The Adobe Photographer's Subscription at $9.99/mo gives you Lightroom CC and Photoshop CC (full version). Updates and upgrades are included as long as you're subscribed. You are also subscribed to Lightroom mobile for organizing and (importable to desktop) editing on tablets and such while travelling.

I switched to Lightroom a few years ago and my only real regret is not switching sooner (though LR CC is light years ahead of where I started with LR4).

Photoshop can be daunting and it generates a lot of fear, uncertainty and doubt but in the last few years, the huge availability of tutorials on YouTube has smoothed out the learning curve. It is very integrated with Lightroom as well (though I find that I do 95%+ of all corrections and editing in Lightroom.)

$10/mo - $120/yr may seem pricey but considering LR by itself is $140 and Elements 14 is around $80, it actually matches pretty well with an every-two-year update cycle.

    My 2¢...

    Dave

I couldn't agree with you more. $10/month for both programs is a no brainier to me. Photoshop alone is worth it. And you always have the latest updates!
