On embarkation day, you can avoid the chaos and crowds by going to Cucina Del Capitano for lunch (free -- lunch there is included with your cruise fare). The lido buffet was a madhouse, but we nearly had the Cucina to ourselves with plenty of room for our carry-on bags next to us at our table. It was a nice, relaxing way to start our trip while waiting for our stateroom to be available.

As others said, the spa facility on the Magic is excellent. If you're a spa person at all, consider getting the spa pass (or book a spa cabin which includes access).

We have a cruise booked from Norfolk in August and this will be our first time on the Magic. I can't recall eating at the Italian place for lunch or ever. I look forward to that.  My husband really enjoys the Mongolian Wok. That's where he eats most days.

    I really wish a spa room were available. I absolutely love the Thalasso Pool, or T-Pool. We really enjoyed this on Carnival Dream! Upgrade fairy, if you're listening, An upgrade to Spa Balcony would be considered:;

  2. We did use Grand Turk Diving right before COVID. It was a very good snorkel and Sting Ray Interaction. We liked it so much we booked again our next trip after COVID For April 2022. Sadly, Grand Turk Diving didn't show up to take us over to the boat. They were unreachable by our phone or locals phones.

Our money was refunded about 2 weeks after we returned home with no explanation.

We ended up hiring an island tour with Funtasitic Tours. It wasn't snorkeling, but we had a good day. A donkey tried to join us on our tour.

Hi folks, are there any fellow birders with tips for birding on Half Moon Cay? Fruitful paths to walk on, particular birds to be on the lookout for, interesting things you’ve seen on the island? We will be there in two weeks and I want to make the most of our day there. Our current plan is just to spend some time wandering around away from the main beach but if anyone has any recommendations I would love to hear them. Thank you in advance!

We saw chickens. They were young and hung out near the lunch seating. I hope your cruise was a good one.

  4. Seasoned cruisers here, but never from Norfolk. I've heard some horror stories about really long boarding times. I don't know if that was one time, or still going on.

If you've sailed from Norfolk on any cruise line please let me know your experience. We will be sailing August 19 on Carnival Magic.

  5. Just back from our S2S Cruise on Carnival Glory and Carnival Valor. We visited Cozumel twice duing our cruises. We've been to Coz countless times. For something different, we booked Trikes.Cozumel for a tour around the island that included lunch. We had a great time and when we come back to Cozumel again, I am sure another tour with them will be in order. You can read more details in my review on my blog: https://gallivantingsouls.com/trikes-cozumel-review/

Happy cruising! Let me know if you have any questions.

  6. Just booked Carnival Glory and Carnival Valor For mid January doing a side to side. This will be our first S2S same cruise line. We did another just before COVID  with  Carnival Conquest and MSC Meravgiia, but there was one day in between.

Looking for any tips. Do we contact anyone or connect bookings. Will we need to check in twice?

How far apart are the two ships? Are they just front and back to each other or at entirely different docks?

    TIA

We will be headed to both Belize and Costa Maya and really want to see the ruins at one of these stops.  To those who have done both, which do you recommend more.  Pros/cons?  At the port that we don't visit the ruins, we plan do some sort of rafting, whether it's cave tubing in Belize or visiting the 7 color lagoon in Costa Maya.  Thanks in advance for any feedback.

You've probably already sailed, but future cruisers might need the info. Definately Belize and Altun Ha. Your guide of choice should be King David. Our family still can't stop talking about this tour! Check out my review and how to contact him: https://gallivantingsouls.com/belize-city-excursion-review-altun-ha/

  8. I've returned and it's been a while sorry. There was no need to book an excursion there at Half Moon Cay. Most folks just took advantage of the easy beach day. If we go there again, I would eat back on the ship. Both of our burgers were undercooked. The food was disappointing. The setting was beautiful. Tendors were quick.

The FFS Cruise with John Heald was fun. There was little info about it here or on the internet, so for cruisers who want to do it in the future, I wrote a post about it:

At the present time the link you provided states that that excursion is currently not available. Since I didn’t even enter in a date...

Click on cruise ship icon. Put in your sailing info. Tours available for your sailing will populate.

anyone know if King David Tours is till available? We were really excited about the Jungle tour (which we cant find from any other vendor), but when we fill out the form to purchase it just says the total comes out to $0.00 and once its calculated $0 selecting any other date just says nothing is available...but I am talking about any date for the entire year! Hope its still an option.

Yes, King David is still offering tours. Check out our review with Contact information:https://gallivantingsouls.com/belize-city-excursion-review-altun-ha/

  11. Hello!

This will be our first FFS Cruise with Carnival. If you've been before can you please give some insight?

I'm specifically wondering about the HMC day. That's the day that was booked to do activities with John Heald. I am wondering if they just needed a "place holder" so that folks could pay the fee. I need to know so that I can figure out if we need to book a true excursion at HMC. We've never visted this port before so I need to do some research.  What do most folks do here? Is it just more of a beach/hangout day?

    TIA

  12. We sail this coming Saturday on Carnival Panorama. I am hoping that some of you who have returned in the past couple of weeks can help me out.

We have always booked our tours on our own and not through the ship. What's different, like many, we have a good chunk of OBC and I'm hoping to spend some of it on excursions. My problem, there are not many listed right now, and even if there were, I want to use OBC.

My question, does carnival offer more excursions once onboard?

If not, and you've been to Cabo or PVA these past couple of weeks, were there many tour operators at the pier offering tours? I wanted to to something like one of those off road side by side UTV's in Cabo and a sunset sail in PVA.

Looking forward to hearing some options!

I have a different Cheers to you promo question.  Is this promo a one time only thing?  I used mine today then went to use it again later on a second cruise and the offer was gone.  I read through the fine print and saw nothing about it being a one-time use offer.

Yes, one time per cruiser number. We have one booked with my number and another booked with my husband's number.

  14. I recently booked a cruise with the promo Cheers to You! free cheers.

I'm just wondering the details when you use it. Will the drink be wrung up and  additonal tax or gratudity be added to my bill each time? Does it already include this and tips?

I'm fine with either way, just wanting to know what to expect. This was a good deal for us as it was only $35 more each for my husband and I to get it. So as long as we each get say 4 or 5 drinks over the week it is a bonus.

    TIA

  15. @GTO-Girl <<

    Suites..

Yes, we are booked at Country Inn.  We normally stay at Homewood Suites right across the street, but they are over $100 higher this time.>>

I do have a booking at Country Inn and Suites. Knowing this, we could potentially keep car one day instead of two... Something to think about. Or maybe not need the car after all.  Decesions, decisions.

  16. We have not been to any of the private islands in the Carnival Corporation. Is there a listing of all of them and maybe locations on map?  We have a cruise scheduled in September, I am just brainstorming in my head substitutions to any islands that are not yet in business. Example: Grand Cayman says they are not opening until September 1st. We are scheduled Sept 16th. Sometimes things are slow to open back up. Grand Turk, I believe belongs to the Cayman Islands, so one would think that GT would stay closed too.

Why not stop at an island owned by your own corporation instead of extra sea days?

We did go to MSC's private island last January, it was very nice! (Ocean Cay)

I would also be okay visiting Belize again. Met a tour operator there that has become a great friend and would love to see more of Beize with him!

  17. I like the turkey avocado on the pretzel bun. Do they have avocado? That's hit and miss.

One time I had the arugula, mozzarella and tomato added to the tuna salad. Not bad.

Never had the hot dog, but sometimes the sandwich of the day is the best bet, or the turkey avocado on that pretzel bun!

I wonder if Carnival would increase itineraries that call in places like Limón, Costa Rica, a partial Panama Canal transit, or even look at new ports, like Santo Tomás de Castilla, Guatemala, or Trujillo, Honduras, that currently appear on a few itineraries from Holland America, Seabourn, and Royal Caribbean.

I’m guessing that these more “off the beaten path” and less developed ports of call may not be attractive to majority of cruisers who seek the comforts and ease of mass market ports of call with well developed and tourist friendly welcome centers, but it may be nice if Carnival offered a handful of itineraries with these and other ports of call for those cruisers who do have an appetite for something different.

My next Carnival Cruise (with a stop in Costa Rica and a partial Panama Canal transit) was chosen exactly because it’s not the same ol’, same ol’ itinerary.

Have you made plans for Costa Rica yet? We toured San Lucas Island and prison while we were there. Awesome tour!

My wife and I are going on Our 20 anniversary trip. Originally we were going on the fascination with ocean view, out of San Juan, PR and going to st Thomas , st marten, st Kitts, st Lucia and Barbados. I was excited for those ports and we love San Juan. Never been to these ports. Now we are rescheduling for June. We can do the same thing or switch to the Horizon out of Miami to Aruba, Bonaire and Curaçao. My wife and I have only gone on 1 cruise and liked the fun things to do on sea days. I realize we lose that on fascination but we love the ports. Thoughts?!

Check out the Conquest. I believe she does the same ports (minus Barbados?). Larger, slightly newer ship. Horizon sailing above so far has lost Bonaire.
