  1. After researching, I know that layers are the way to go for clothing.   Now on to shoes.

Our cruise is in mid May.  We are whale watching in Juneau, train/bus ride in Skagway and exploring on our own in Ketchikan and Victoria.

Do I need to bring waterproof hiking boots, rain boots or will tennis shoes/sneakers be good enough?  I know the weather can be rainy and don't want to be walking around with wet feet.  But since we are flying to Seattle, I don't want to pack items that are not needed.

    Thanks

  2. My husband and I are going on an Alaskan cruise in May.  I am trying to decide in which ports to purchase excursions and which ports can be enjoyed by exploring on our own.

    Juneau

    Skagway

    Tracy Arm Fjord

    Ketchikan

    Victoria

    TIA

  3. Prior to Cruise:  We are flying into Seattle on May 10th for a Carnival May 11th cruise departure.  We plan to Uber to a hotel near the port for one night and then Uber to the port the next day.  What hotels would you recommend?  We don't need anything fancy as we are just using it as a sleeping point for one night.  Would love to keep it in the $150 range.

After Cruise: We disembark on Thursday May 18th.  We plan to stay two nights in the Seattle area to see the city. Do you recommend us renting a car for those two days?  What hotels do you recommend?  We want to see Space Needle and Pike Place Market for sure.

    TIA

Closest stop to Southernmost Points one block away at Whitehead and United, Hemingway house stops are also a block away, as well as Truman Little White House. Here is a video I made that follows the routs and shows all the stops.

Grumpy-- This is perfect.  Thanks so much!!

  5. I was looking at some of the hop on/hop off excursions.  In my research, I came across information about the Duval Loop Key West Shuttle which appears to be free.  Would this take me to all the main points of interest?  Hemingway House, Truman Little White House, Southernmost point?

    Thanks in advance.

  6. We just dd the Sea Trek in St Maarten last week.  My husband and I are in our 50s.  I am a non swimmer so I was a little apprehensive at first.  It was one of the best excursions ever.  The helmet does not feel heavy in the water. My husband has a bad back and did not have any problems with it.  At the bottom of the ladder, you have a "trail" to walk on with railings on each side. We saw a helicopter wreckage, cannons, and lots of fish.  It was an amazing adventure.   I highly recommend it.

  8. I keep reading that it is expensive to purchase photos here, but I can't find any prices. I am just trying to get a ballpark price for pictures so I don't have complete sticker shock.

    Any information would be appreciated.

    Thanks

  9. I just realized that our cruise leaves New Orleans during Jazz Fest. We are planning to spend two days in town before we sail. We are not interested in attending Jazz Fest. Will the activities of Jazz Fest affect us being able to walk around the French Quarter? Last time we loved spending the afternoon sitting on the curb listening to the street musicians.

    TIA

  10. As much as I love an 8 day cruise, in this case I'd take the Dream. Fantasy is the oldest ship in the fleet and Dream is the 4th newest (if you don't count the Sunshine). I'd rather have the Dream Class amenities than the extra day. But that is just me, lots of people don't like the Dream Class.

    We loved the Dream!!

  11. I need some help in deciding between two cruises for next April.

    Scenario #1

7 Day Carnival Dream out of New Orleans

Cozumel, Belize, Mahogany Bay & Costa Maya

    Scenario#2

8 Day Carnival Fantasy out of Mobile

Costa Maya, Mahogany Bay, Belize, Cozumel & Yucatan

We did the Dream last year and loved it, but have not done the Fantasy. I like the idea of an extra day and an extra port stop. I would love to hear opinions on comparing the two ships and anything else that I should think about when making this decision.
