  1. My boyfriend and I LOVED cruising for the first time and cannot wait to book one for ourselves (the last one was gifted). Honestly, when's the best time to get some great deals? I always hear of people getting a certain percentage off or drink incentives. We are looking to book for the same time next year in April.

  2. Cut the OP some slack. She expressed her honest opinion about HAL, what's the big deal regarding her choice of words to convey her feelings. I'm 71 and agree that I would prefer Royal over HAL. I'm not a night owl by anyone's' definition, but enjoy the vibrancy of Royal's mixed demographic.

Thank you for being so understanding! I want to book with a cruise line and be on a ship with older people who are laid back like yourself and who enjoy the company of all age demographics. I was thinking that people who book Carnival and RC must be more laid back because they're with a lot more young people. I just wish more people like yourself were on Holland America, they were so snobbish. Although I have to say there were these two sisters who were pretty cool they must have been in their 70's and they said "you poor kids must feel like your on a floating retirement home huh?" Lol

  3. I just hope you had enough respect for the people who gave you this gift and didn't complain to them about all the old people and how horrible the cruise was.

Now that you are starting to do your research hopefully you won't be so miserable next time.

Also, didn't you take some tours or did you stay on the ship the entire time? That would have helped with your horrible cruise. Things are what you make them to be.

Oh gosh, of course we were appreciative! I told my mom that it was a beautiful ship, we enjoyed the excellent service, and we really loved our verandah and the port of calls. I was honest and said we enjoyed cruising for the first time and could see how it gets addicting but we wouldn't choose that particular line for another 20+ years because of the age demographic and she understood. The whole trip itself wasn't completely "miserable" we had a blast on all the ports and really had fun on our excursions!! We dreaded having to get back on the ship because days at sea were boring, as I stated previously they didn't offer much entertainment so basically all we did was lay by the pool and listened to elevator & classical music and had a few drinks.

  4. Did you notice her user name..."baby".

Very fitting based on her choice of words.:)

If you weren't going to provide input pertaining to the question I asked then don't spam the thread I posted. At some point I'll be lucky enough to grow old and hopefully I won't be as stuck up as you and see the humor in things. And FYI geriatric is "appropriate" terminology ya old fart.

  5. Thank you to everyone who replied to this thread, minus the annoying people who wanted to complain about my "choice of words". I WASN'T asking how you felt or if offended you I simply asked what the age demographic Royal Caribbean catered to. There was a lot of great input so thanks again to those who responded appropriately!

  6. I don't consider 39 and 40 "old". If you were on Holland America you would be considered young and if you're into dancing and enjoying a few drinks you would be given dirty looks.. it's almost as if it wasn't "proper" or "appropriate" to enjoy yourself and company .. Not even kidding!!

I would defiantly suggest reviewing your cruise and putting your input because it honestly does make fellow cruisers more informed. Had I known that Holland America was that much of an older demographic I would have said thanks but no thanks to the family member who gifted us the cruise.

  7. OMG!! That's exactly what we want is options for things to do like you listed.. We want nightlife and entertainment but fun activities to do during the day like rock climbing and mini golf. We literally sat and listened to elevator/titanic music by the pool for 7 days no joke.. Seriously [emoji31]

We will research the Freedom and look more into the Allure also.. Thank you so much!!

  8. Thank you everyone for responding. We just can't believe how many older people were on Holland America. The rock climbing, zip line etc look like so much fun on these other ships!!!! I feel like crying at how horrible our experience was because everyone else was saying how great their experience was and how much fun they had on RC. We will defiantly look into Carnival, RC, and Norwegian for our next cruise but I'm defiantly leaning towards the Oasis!!!

  9. My boyfriend and I just returned from our first cruise on Holland America's signature cruise ship and had a HORRIBLE experience, everyone was 50+ and were so rude to staff I couldn't believe it. We are looking into booking a cruise with RC, but what's the age demographic like on the Allure? Being in our mid 20's do you think we would enjoy the activities ?

  10. My boyfriend and I just returned from our first cruise with Holland America on their signature ship and it was horrible. It was like a floating retirement home and felt like we were onboard an assistant living facility. On a positive note we do have to say the service was excellent but the overall experience on sea days was poor because they didn't offer any activities or any good entertainment and the music by the pool was titanic music as my boyfriend would say.

We would like to try another cruise line in the future that doesn't cater to the geriatric population and are wondering if Royal Caribbean offers a wide variety of activities for all age groups. The Oasis Of The Sea, Anthem of the Sea, and Allure look like fun ships but we don't want to be stuck with mostly older people again :/

  11. Has anyone recently (within the last month or so) visit Playa Mia Grand Beach Resort and park? I'm looking to do an all inclusive day pass through my Cruise line and would appreciate some reviews on the place! Btw we are a young couple both in our mid 20's looking to drink and relax!
