Hi all Well Caroll and I flew to Auckland from Montreal in January 2024. We rented a car and stayed at VRBO, airbnb or directly booked with a hotels. Stays were from 1 night to 9 nights. One VRBO hostess gave us recommendations that led to 6,000 km driving over 8 weeks in figure 8 from North Island to South Island & back. WoW! Highlights included Doubtful Sound, Milford Sound, Larnack Castle, Waipu Cove, vineyards in Kumeu River, Hawkes Bay, Martinborough, Waipara, Central Otago, Marlborough. I love to write. My wife and I of 50+ years are frequent O cruisers. We love fine dining, good wine and 4 or 5 star accommodations. We love driving vacations as well. For example, 7 years ago after a cruise from Tahiti, we spent 1 month in Australia driving from Sydney to Adelaide and back. We plan to spend 2 months in NZ next winter. Initial plans are a pied-a-terre of 5 weeks in a seaside rental near Auckland followed by a 21 day high end camper to tour of the south island. This means fewer times unpacking and packing. Does this mix make sense in terms of timing and locations?
