  1. First, I realize I'm replying to an old thread. Secondly, I'm not military, but I do work in healthcare. I've seen some strange things with Tricare. For a vacation/cruise, I think I'd still suggest, as others have, getting a travel policy. If you went through Costco Travel, they basically acted as your "travel agent," and it's probably a good idea to call them to see what all the benefits are, and get them (as always) in writing. Finally, while searching for a policy for my own trip, I found this "clearing house" of travel insurance, which you can compare "apples to apples." https://www.squaremouth.com  I ended up getting a pretty amazing policy for about $30 for a week's cruise. Emergency medical (as secondary to my employer insurance) up to $30,000, but the kicker--$400,000 for medical evacuation/repatriation. there were other incidental benefits thrown in like travel delay, baggage delay/loss, flight AD&D. Considering I paid a lot more than $30 for a drink pass on the ship, this was a no-brainer.  squaremouth dot com

  2. I assume you and your daughter are US citizens.

I'm not an expert, but here's what I found on the State Department website:

    PASSPORT VALIDITY:

Valid at time of entry. If you are transiting Canada en route to Europe, your passport must be valid for at least 3 months beyond your planned date of departure from the Schengen area.

    https://travel.state.gov/content/travel/en/international-travel/International-Travel-Country-Information-Pages/Canada.html

"Valid at time of entry," seems to be your answer.

Edit: Just looked down the same page a bit, and found this:

"Children under 16 need only present proof of U.S. citizenship."

AND, since your daughter's friend is traveling with you, this likely significant for your situation (same webpage):

Travel with Minors: If you plan to travel to Canada with a minor who is not your own child or for whom you do not have full legal custody, CBSA may require you to present a notarized affidavit of consent from the minor’s parents. Please refer to the CBSA website for more details.

  3. I'm certainly not as well-travelled as you, but here's something to consider:  "Azamara is part of Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd., which received a perfect rating on the Human Rights Campaign's Corporate Equality Index. The index is a national benchmarking survey and reports on corporate policies and practices related to LGBT workplace equality."  (https://www.cruisecritic.com/articles.cfm?ID=3) And even thoughI'm not a rabid environmentalist, I do care. And apparently, Carnival is no friend of the seas when it comes to dumping waste. https://www.npr.org/2019/06/04/729622653/carnival-cruise-lines-hit-with-20-million-penalty-for-environmental-crimes

Of course, Carnival owns many lines under its umbrella, including several luxe brands.

  4. Thank you for the review. My husband & I will be on this ship soon (same itinerary). Do you recall if the Hairy Chest Contest on Lido deck was offered as part of the entertainment? My husband likes to enter this contest, but I told him I'm not sure if it is offered on the 5 day cruises.

Hairy chest contest is "offered" on the 5-day cruise. My cousin's son won, and got a ship on a stick!

  5. This is my first cruise, and it's with a bunch of my cousins, with a couple of aunts thrown in. I'm a 40-something guy, and there are at least a couple of other male cousins going along, but I'm interested in finding other fun passengers to hang out with during our time at sea. It's my first cruise, and I've heard there are "Friends of Dorothy" meetings, but they can be pretty late at night (like 11!) lol.

  6. I booked a room at the Tremont House (a Wyndham property) through hotels.com for August at $160 a night. It appears to be an "historic" hotel, but from the website (and reviews) it looks very nice. Best of all, it's just a block or two from the terminal. Hotels.com reviewers give it a 4.6/5. Admittedly, I haven't stayed there yet, but I'm looking forward to it. BTW, there were cheaper rates, but I wanted to be able to cancel if I needed to. The cheaper rates were non-refundable.
