  1. By any objective measure a Panama Canal cruise is vastly more dangerous than a European cruise. I am not trying to scare you away from Mexico/South America, but Europe is probably the safest place in the world to travel. The biggest risk of death and injury when travelling by far is car accidents. Granted the Med has higher rates than northern Europe but about on par with US rates.

Woah! That got very real, very fast. Lol

I'd say Med since you mentioned celebrating your 50th!

  2. Getting ready to take our annual cruise in January. I am starting to think that I just need to stay off these message boards! Now' date=' I'm worried that 1. Park-N-Go in Ft Lauderdale is awful (I never got a response from the person that posted they were when I questioned their comment), 2. Embassy Suites has bedbugs, 3. the Serenade of the Seas is seemingly looking worn, right down to tattered MDR chairs, 4. the quality of MDR food fleetwide is awful, 5. even though I have the drink package--it seems I will be hard pressed to get a bartender to make me a drink, especially if I don't tip extra, 6. Diamonds and Pinnacles will look down on me because I don't share their status, 7. there won't be any freshly ground pepper on board, 8. my Balcony neighbors will smoke like a chimney with Royal refusing to do anything, 9. the previous occupant of my balcony room will have spent every night sleeping my room's mattress, which he pulled out onto the balcony nightly, and 10. (something I conveniently forgot about)--I am going to be pestered about giving all "5's" on some dumb survey that I usually don't bother with anyway! Seriously, none of these things matter to me. However, I am disappointed that these message boards have evolved into a forum for members to voice complaints and bicker amongst each other. I will continue to weed through the drama, and I will admit that it can be entertaining at times. I miss the days when these forums were packed with tour suggestions, and invitations to meet up for drinks, dinners, or tours. Rant over...[/quote']

"no one comes to the internet to just say something positive"

Thanks for conveying the feeling of many of us here who just try to enjoy our vacations and not complain about every little thing :) got a good laugh out of it

  3. There is no longer a Deluxe Package. New Package is the Ultimate Package UP.

You actually have it backwards. The ultimate and premium packages have been replaced by the deluxe! Just don't want to confuse OP!

I booked for $37 prior to grats on a deal for my Jan 8 Allure sailing. 2 packages were around $700, hard to say no to! However, i got lucky and booked the premium package and was grandfathered up to the deluxe when they made the switch.

  5. You got a good deal for your JS. I wish we had more flexibility in our dates, but our daughter is old enough now that it's tough to pull her out of school. If the actual price for the ATS had been $1200 more, I'd have switched in a heartbeat. We would definitely save some money with the free suite perks, but it's tough to determine exactly how much -- especially with regard to drinks.

    Enjoy your cruise!

Yeah our wedding in January 7th and the Cruise in Jan 8th. Many kids go back to school on the 9th, so it really worked out well for us because of the cheaper cruise fares :)

Remember and excel spreadsheet is your friend!!! Us finance folks love them for budgeting and cost analysis. You can make it so that you can fluctuate expected drink expense to get a more solid figure and for a budget.

    Enjoy your cruise as well!

  6. I checked the Crown Lofts, too. I think I'd only be interested in a side-facing L1, and when I looked they were almost $800 more than the L2s for the 3 of us. I'll take another look when I get home from work!

For 3 honestly I would take the deck 11-12 ATS over a CLS. This does not apply to the deck 14 ATS, which has a lackluster balcony! I think the WOW factor of the massive deck is equal to the loft room. And the practicality is much better! Though $800 to upgrade to a CLS is a gift!!
