I don't think so. They may have fixed that. This is a giant rooster tail and it's hard for people who don't know how to ride to transition it because the water is higher there then the rest of the way.

That rooster tail in the middle was horrible 4 years ago, are you saying in all this time they haven’t fixed it? I can scratch Liberty off the ok list.
Graeme, maybe if you tell Julie that you are going to cruise with a, “wink” friend. Maybe she will reconsider...

Was still there Jan 2018. I will be back on Liberty in February, so I can confirm again. They did dry dock on her in 16 I believe, so sounds like they didn't fix it then.

Yeah I love my Jaan board. It is just too light for some waves. I don't use it on Liberty of the Seas because of the giant rooster tail in the middle of the wave.

Wow 4 boards that's awesome living in Australia it costs a fortune to get one over here to get a outlaw deliver is going to be nearly 800 230 of that is postage, I would love to try a different board I liked the look of the ash one I saw on my last cruise but if I got it and didn't like it I would be gutted, when you say unresponsive do you mean to turn or more for when your doing tricks, also does the channels hamper spinning the board is that why no good for tricks?
Yes I have bought several boards and did not like them, so I sold them. I have learned over time what type of boards I like and don't like. I also prefer different types of boards and on different types of waves. To answer your question about responsiveness. Some boards are like an old 1970's cadillac with a lot of play in the wheel, it takes a lot of pressure to get them to respond, where some boards respond at the lightest touch. And yes, channels keep the board wanting to go straight because of how the water flows. This makes it more difficult if you want to spin and do other things on the wave. Not impossible just more difficult.

If you don't want to do tricks, the channel boards are good but if you ever want to graduate into tricks, I recommend without channels. Also the outlaw boards are some of the most unresponsive boards you can buy. I currently own 4 boards but have owned 8 in total.

Some ships require a SetSail for each guest (Anthem is one), but most still don't.
Allure used to do one pass but a few weeks ago, they switched to the same way the Harmony and Quantum ships do it, where you need two printed passes and you get your keys at the room. We found this out this morning at boarding. Makes me think they’ll probably start rolling it out to all the ships. But this is RCI, consistency isn’t their strong point.

Because 1) room service used to be free 2) food on the ship is still free so I can go to the windjammer and get my own stuff and bring it back to the room... which is what I do. But it’s nice when someone does that for you and I’m glad to tip that person- just not give a “service charge” to a service that should be included. Next thing you know we’ll be paying pool attendants a “service charge” to set up our chairs or a “service charge” to ride the elevators.

Royal is allowed to run this business however they want. If you’re not happy about it, take your money somewhere else. It’s a simple as that but you’ll continue to bitch about it and then continue to give Royal your money and the cycle will continue.

How much are you wanting to spend and how often do you ride? I ride 38”‘s and have ridden pretty much ever board manufacturer out there.

Say what you will about Carnival but you’re right. Guy’s is better and it’s free.
There’s some weird fascination on this board to act like Royal is so much better than Carnival, when both lines have things they do better the other. Overall they are pretty similar.

Received an email 2 weeks ago to upgrade from Oceanview balcony to JS for $400 on the Oasis at end of May. For those having experience with receiving the lucky call, how soon before sailing can you expect the call? Would really appreciate a little extra balcony space!
We got the email but never actually got a call for our sailing tomorrow.

So don’t use room service and if it bothers you that much find a different company to cruise with.
-
Yeah $390 for a Junior Suite sounds like a good deal to me. That's less than $20 pp per day.
-
Yup, one of the main reason's we don't cruise the smaller ships, just not a whole lot of activities. It does have a small activities area on the back of the ship on deck 10 with a rock climbing wall.
-
They only have this policy so they can enforce it for times like around spring break, when college kids try to sneak clear alcohol on board in water bottles.
-
What’s the point of this law? It seems rather stupid.
-
Would love having an Oasis class ship in Galveston. Stuck in Texas for another 8 years.
-
So don't cruise with them. I still happen to think it's a pretty good value. To each their own.

I love these once a week threads.

Yeah we watched it a couple weeks ago and was pretty interesting to see.

Here’s my thoughts:
Royal:
Nicer ships ( Carnival doesn’t have anything like the promenade)
Flowrider (reason we cruise Royal)
Better loyalty program
Carnival:
Way better spa
Better food, Royal completely fails at off dining time food.
The clientele is exactly the same between the two cruise lines. You’ll find a ton of people on CC who try to act like there’s a huge difference between the types of people who cruise each line but there’s not. You cruise short cruises during busy times like spring break, you’ll find a bunch of rowdy partiers. You go longer cruises off peak, it’ll be more subdued.

Try Cunard or Seaborne. They will offer the experience you are looking for.

So jeans and a nice shirt would be ok? I thought about getting him a pair of khakis that he can wear on the formal nights.
Either option will be fine.
-
I would favor Harmony, both for as easier fly-in experience and more bells & whistles on the ship.
This plus we just like the eastern Caribbean islands so much better.
-
We dealt with this on the 28th when we disembarked. Fortunately it wasn’t this bad.
Flowrider board reviews, which to buy?
