  1. It is different for many schools, etc,

Just google ----> spring break usa 2018

Remember, google is the first place to go for info.....

Yes, thank you, I think. Perhaps I should have mentioned having done my own search via google, etc, etc. The info gathered was varied and vague and not specific enough for my needs. I've learned it can and does cover a multi-week time frame, which helps me narrow things down. After a long absence from here, thought I would come back and see if I could get a more defined answer.

    Thanks to those who offered.

  2. If I recall correctly, she is referring to past discussions of Kdam's solo cabins on threads about the ship. Some seem to have made up their minds early that these are terrible cabins, despite they are better than most ships offer for solo cruisers. Some apparently would like a Neptune Suite at a solo price.

I remember the concern being more about location of the solo cabins, not that they were inadequate. But good slam!

  3. Just want to point out that my experience with iced tea is that it is real tea...unsweetened, not that awful stuff made with mostly sugar, that you buy in a can and mix up...or I suppose it comes bottled now. So...if you are expecting that, it's not what you will get.

  4. I rather like it when people call it "dress-up day "or "prom night ". It lets us know who we're dealing with right for the beginning of the post! :)

And from this post, 'we' can tell exactly who we're dealing with, too.

  5. Trisha,

I have been hanging around here for years, reading, posting a little, mostly enjoying reading about the great trips so many have planned and enjoyed. I always got a kick of your photos (when you had posted them) because of the huge, engaging smile always on Virgil's face. I thought you 2 would be so much fun to travel with....

I'm so very sorry for your profound loss. God Bless.

  6. Please don't wait until you are on the ship to have this conversation. Some people can be easily hurt\offiended, and it would be awful if the convo went off the rails at the start of what's supposed to be a great vacation. Nothing worse than strained 'relations' right off the bat.

You already sound fairly resentful of the situation, and since you asked for advice, mine is to put as many days between the 'conversation' and the start of the trip. You'll probably feel better having it out of the way, and it'll allow for further 'boudary' setting should it be required.

Truly hope you have a great time.

  7. We had a small fire from a faulty heating pad. When we alerted the manufacturer, they responded by offering us a replacement and a gift for our 'trouble.' The gift? A First Aid kit. We had a pretty good chuckle over that.

  8. I so very much agree with the others here, especially LSEA, your HAL family will be everywhere....and your loss to them will be undeniable....you may spend a great deal of time trying to be braver than you are able, or offering comfort to those who wish to comfort you. That probably wasn't said very well but I hope you understand what I mean. I do think the newness of it all will be such a help to you....for your bittersweet return to cruising. I wish the very best for you.

  9. And while we are in 'update' mode, I actually confirmed with the airline I was flying with that champagne is ok to put in checked luggage.

So...that is what I did...both to Hawaii, and home again:) I was careful to triple wrap in towels/absorbent materials, and placed all in several zip locks, just in case there was any trouble. Everything arrived just fine, but probably the only time I'll do it.

Glad the OP had a good time:)

  10. Thanks, hon. :)

Seriously though, a few years ago we lost a family member to alcoholism. It was heartbreaking; even after staging an intervention, it was too late for her and she died a horrific death. It was awful. I suppose that makes me a little sensitive to remarks such as OP's, and even more so to those by people like Karysa who may be apt to judge without knowing the circumstances.

    .

With utmost respect for your heartbreaking loss......how on earth could th OP be expected to sensor anything that has the potential to cause difficulty for someone, besides the very obvious?

My B-I-L passed away 4 days ago from liver disease, complications of alcoholism.

The OP could have no way of knowing your situation, and it's a little arrogant to assume so. I'm certain they meant no disrespect. I think you owe an apology. IMHO.

  11. I should probably just let this be....but I'm still confused.

If they cancelled ONE room....(doesn't matter if an upgrade, downgrade,, whatever....there's been a cancellation) then of course they should expect to pay a fee. Exchanging for a higher priced cabin does not negate the cancellation fee......$100 seems very fair. My recent cancellation (to move to a different condo....not cruise) was nearly 100%.....so I chose NOT to cancel)

What am I missing? Seems the OP might believe that because they re-selected a higher priced cabin, that should absolve them of any fees.

I a happy to be wrong about this....I hope I am and that the OP can have a resolution that makes them happy.

  12. Yes, something doesn't quite add up. Either they booked, or were on a wait list...it matters which scenario is at play.

Try to get past your disappointment and focus on the great trip you will have with your family. Would be a shame if it gets in the way of having a great time.

  13. I'm currently in Hawaii, (Maui)....so beautiful, but so many cats:( So many more, it seems than the last time I was here. They look ok, but still, breaks my heart.

On the 'food note', if you find this interesting, while passing through US Customs in Vancouver, I was asked if I was carrying any fruits/veg....and remembered I had 2 apples in my carryon. The Customs Official asked to see them, I was happy to comply, and completely expected to be leaving them behind. Funny, I think they were apples from New Zealand, so these 2 were destined to be more well-travelled than I:) Nevertheless, they were closely inspected, passed whatever test being administered, and I was allowed to proceed with my 2 world-travelling apples. I thought for sure they would be confiscated, but maybe since they'd already come from so far, perhaps had been treated prior to their export, that that was sufficient? I don't know.

    A 'special Aloha' to S7S:)
