  1. Not having cruised with Celebrity before, just wondered what drinks are included in the fare? Is it a glass of wine with meals, a drink such as a Gin and Tonic before dinner? Also can passengers take a bottle of wine pp on board, if more than two bottles, can pax pay corage?

  2. It would seem all those who replied to my original post re the bum wristwatch have never had a bad experience with buying something which turned out to be faulty.

I should have taken the $25 offered as I bought the watch with onboard credit but it galls me that I wasted time trying to get it repaired as I like the watch, and it is still useless. Ah well its all experience.

  3. I bought a wrist watch on board Majestic Princess last Dedember, it had a metal elasticated band  which I need due to arthritic fingers, and a nice easy to read face. It was not expensive around $35. I didnt wear it until early January and on the first wear the strap broke. I also noticed it ran slow. I took to a repairer and paid $ 15 to have the band repaired. The battery  replacement was $25, so all up I had spent more than the watch cost.

On contacting Princess customer service I was told I needed to send in the watch, along with the receipts for repair and the original for when bought. Unfortunately we could not find either the receipts or shipboard statements for the item.

I was told that the the ship had checked the copies of items bought on board and that I I had only paid $11 for the watch! I am sure there are no wristwatches for $11!  The customer services then offered me $25 as a ‘goodwill gesture’ which I refused as it was an insult.

To add to the woes, the replacement battery made no difference, the watch still continued to be slow. So it would appear the watch was faulty from the beginning.

The moral of the story is to be sure to keep receipts and copies of on board statements for anything bought on board the ships.

  4. Re Ponant cruises

We are booked on a new Ponant cruise in February going Sub Antarctic, from New Zealand. Its the first one snd in a newly delivered ship. Its an adventure cruise so no celebrity stuff. We will have 180 passengers. Going to be exciting, and scary if seas rough!

  5. Not sure quite what the person who made the comment about " not knowing coffee" if I didnt kniw difference between so called coffee in buffet and that which is served in International Cafe.

As an Australian we do know coffee and have been a barista myself owning a cafe, I would not claim the coffee served in the buffet to be anywhere near a coffee but that which we have to pay for in the IC is at least drinkable.

Norwegian Cruise Line have LaVassa coffee machines in their outdoor buffet areas on Pride of America, which gave a good cup of coffee.

  6. Its a bain of my cruising life the awful muck that is served in the buffet, disgusting! I take my own jar of expresso Nescafe and have a kettle ( thermostatically controlled) to make my own cup in morning.

The coffee cards are expensive on Ships departing UK, £25 which is $50 Australian, they are $35 here. The coffee in International cafe is ok.

We have spoken to chefs and other officers about the disgusting coffee in buffet and were told 'American s like it' which I find hard to believe. So I will be armed with my own jar of coffee or I sometimes take a small cafetierre and ground coffee.
