  1. I'm not a clothes horse yet I always pack more than twice what I wear no matter where I go or the length of trip. But this is the first time I have flown since 1980 so I think the weight restrictions will hold me back.

Your post was informative so thanks LOL

I packed too many evening dressy clothes. I could have easily gotten by with two blouses and one pair of dressy slacks (and I love to dress up). I would have been fine with one pair of dressier shoes and just my gortex hiking boots, didn’t need the low rise sneakers (or visa versa). I never wore my rainpants, we had great weather and water excursion operators were prepared to supply us if needed. One bathing suit was fine, I never wore the second one (hot tubs). I’d also brought flip flop style sandels for the pool and a coverup, but so many people wore bathrobes and slippers that I decided “why not?” Also did not need jeans, wore alternating two pairs of leggings with thermals underneath and layered tops.

I sailed on the Celebrity Millennium this past May. This trip has challenged me to creatively downsize from now on. We brought two carryons and one checked bag and I’m determined to carry on only next time. Maybe ;).

  2. I already have waterproof hiking boots that I will wear on the plane from Florida. If I didn't already have them, I would be looking at hiking shoes or just taking a chance on older sneakers.

I always overpack but will be forced by that weight limit on luggage to be more careful which is why those boots will be on my feet LOL

What I am wondering is will I be able wear my traditional Florida footwear of flip flops on board or will it be too chilly?

  3. Thanks everyone.

I am also getting the 2nd landing and as I recall they were about 100 bucks less pp than the ship's excursion.

I have booked most of my previous excursions privately due to the savings and flexibility; the excursions are typically a bit longer when booked privately with more customization.

But I certainly do not wish to compromise safety over a couple hundred of dollars LOL

  4. Anyone heard of this particular business?

They have only 11 reviews which are all good but was hoping some of your more experienced people would have more info for me

We plan to take the Heli tour with dog mush and second landing.

  5. This is my first cruise to Alaska and only my 3rd cruise period and I am taking a pair of waterproof pants because I will be outside every moment. If I can swing the money for an excursion to a glacier or a mush, I am going and would rather have them than freeze.

I way overpacked for the Caribbean cruises and learned from it. I will have my hiking boots and waterproof clothing even if I must wear the same few outfits more than once while onboard LOL I live in Florida and have been drenched more than once on what started out as a nice day. It's uncomfortable and can only imagine how much worse it would be in Alaska.

I guess I'm going to give a different answer to "do I need waterproof pants"

We went on a small whale watching tour in Sitka. It rained the whole time but we saw so many whales, otters, etc....that we wanted to be outside on the deck. I had warm jacket (not waterproof)...jeans (not waterproof) and all of us were freezing cold and wet by the end of the tour. We are going to Alaska again in August....and I'm going to take waterproof everything. It could make the difference in enjoying your tour and just enduring it....great though it was.

  6. We seek locally-produced greeting cards and frame them nicely when we get home. Easy to transport, and we can imagine the work and focus that went into the composition by the artist.

Great idea. Since I live in Florida, I fear buying something that the airline will toss out. Then there is the weight limit on bags to consider.

  7. There wasn't as of yesterday which makes me curious with slightly over 2 months to go.

You are on the main HAL board. You need to post on the board for ROLL CALLS using the proper format specified there. There is probably already a roll call for your cruise. EM
  8. Can these be taken on a plane in my luggage? I haven't flown since 1980. Yeah, 1980 so have not kept up with what I can or cannot take on a flight

One way I used the poster-recommended "rare earth magnetic hooks" on our last Alaska cruise - I attached them to the metal ceiling panel near the ventilation output panel and hung my damp (not soaking wet) hiking boots closer to the cabin airflow - did the job in short order.

That very helpful poster explained the "pull weight" hanging things off these magnets is a lot stronger, than trying to use magnets to post things against a flat wall.

  9. My daughter is considering this excursion but I fear it will be lame since Kingston is where his museum is.

We are docking in Falmouth and this tour mentions seeing the house he was born in, places that inspired him and his mausoleum.

I was hoping to hear from someone that took this excursion

  10. My daughter is single and a TA so I get to be her plus one at a steep discount since I don't mind sharing a cabin with her. Most of the time LOL.

Im a blue collar single woman so I put it on a credit card then skip eating out at work and pay more than the minimum so that when the next cruise rolls around the card is pretty much paid off. On the rare occasion that cash comes my way, it will be applied to credit card or put into savings account.
