  1. Hi Cruisers,

We are flying in to Venice for a cruise next month and don't know whether we should purchase the ship transfer (usually pretty pricey) or get a taxi. Does anyone know if it is easy to get a taxi and be understood in English? How about the fare in Euros? Do any of you have experience with this? Thanks for your help.

We took a water taxi for 4 of us. It was convenient to the airport , BUT, it took almost 1 hour with all the stops. It has a stop right at the

ships dock. We should have hire a private water taxi and been to the ship in 20 minutes.

  2. My dream would be in a suite on a world cruise with drinks, internet gratuities

small ship....1000 or less with outstanding entertainment. Plus the other passengers would be playboy bunnies or models.

That way I would be alone with my wife and not have any problems !

  3. If you stay in Mestre, you can take a bus from the airport to Mestre. Hotels are plentiful by the train station( about 1 block from the bus station). We stayed at the Hotel Tritone . It had a superb breakfast and was right across the street from the train station. Trains run about every 20 minutes and leave you in the heart of Venice with a Vaporetto stop right at the station.

It is a short cab ride to the ship and no bag slugging.

  4. We were in Venice in July. My wife, son and his wife. We came in the day of our embarkation so we did not have a hotel. We did take a Vaporetta to the cruise ship dock. Since there was 4 of us, we should have taken a water taxi directly. The Vaporetta took about one hour and made many stops. It was scenic though.

If you stay near the airport, that is an option. The bus and people mover still require a lengthy walk and several stairs plus at least one bridge.

As our ship( Constellation) did not leave until the next day, we walked into Venice several times..there is also the Vaporetta to St Marks etc.

  5. Before we had booked this cruise, 7 days, I was browsing the X website and saw info on Specialty packages, as mentioned in OP. It listed 3,4,5 meal options but only showed 4 or 5 on the 7 day cruises. 4 Night was $137.

Now that we have booked and logged in X shows '4 night package - From $125'. Not sure what 'From' means - each Specialty restaurant had 'From' in the price too. Still think waiting for an on-board offer and maybe just 2 nights out of 7 is best for us.

BTW I did see the option to request reservations for MDR and Specialty restaurants. Looked pretty straightforward to add each night in one step.

We were on a 7day in July in Europe on the Constellation; we asked our head waiter if there were any discounts in Murano . He told us he would make a reservation at our time of choosing and at a 20% discount. He did and we did !

  6. We did this on our own in July . We pre-booked the Accademia for 12:00pm.

First we went to Pisa on the 8:00am train. Spent at most an hour looking at the tower etc. Then on to Florence by 9:45am. Picked up our tickets for the Accademia (David). Walked the short distance to the Duomo .

Back to the Accademia... let us in early although the lines were long !

Then spent time in the Market, Ponte Vecchio and lunch.

Walked back to the train station and went straight to Livorno.

There was a port bus to take you to another bus(pay) to the train station.

You can get tickets from machine or human.

It is not hard to do. We were on the same train returning as those that booked with Celebrity.

  7. I have never been and haven't heard much about Coco Cay. My question if this is a tender site or no? Can you just walk off and be at the beach or do you have to book transportation to the area? Thanks!

You tender ! If you are beach people, go early if not head to the right for shade and food. Food is not offered the whole time you are there about 2-3 hours so don't miss it.

There is unique snorkeling on a old plane wreck. I believe your drink card works here also.

we are not beach people but had a great time.

  9. We have never sailed Celebrity. We have sailed Carnival, Royal Caribbean and our favorite Princess. We are looking at an 11 night on Equinox in May 17. 2 adults, early 50's. Favorite activities is relaxing and a couple good shows and night entertainment. Don't like jazz or classical music. Please tell me if we would like this ship and why. Thanks.

I have never been on the Equinox but I have been on all the other S class ships.

If you have to be sold, maybe you should change travel agents or stick with your previous choices !

  10. Your numbers probably apply to all cruises except the ones I have been on lately. I am an X guy. On our last 3 cruises, we have had coupons in lieu of a lounge for X elite. Which tells me that there are a large number of repeat customers .

With overall 1,2,3 this is an all inclusive resort to different locations. I am sure there are new customers but my experience is there are an abundant of past cruisers booking.

    Check the roll calls !....

Renaissance cruise tried to do away with travel agents and go direct... they are no longer sailing.
