  1. Looking for pictures of cabins on deck 8.

These are obstructed ocean view accessible cabins near OSheehans.

    Cabin 8122 or 8626

How much of the view is obstructed?

we sail on the Star 24th May.............. room 8628........... I will try to update you as soon as I can after we return :) hope this helps.

  2. Is there any difference in the food served in the Windows and Garden restaurants. Do people have a preference for any reason?

the menus are pretty much the same....... Windows has a higher ceiling height due to auditorium seating above so it goes up into the void....... if you sit in the middle of garden away from the natural light/windows it can be a little dark, but some might call that romantic?? both are on deck 6 one is accessible from midships lifts one from stern lifts........... the oriental complementary restaurant SHOGUN was our least favourite of all the dining options on board....... (but all opinions are mine and you will be best trying them yourselves) the best I can say is, there have been some modes changes whilst in dry dock, entertainment/dining/ambience are all subjective. please go & enjoy yourselves

  3. Thanks Mark (Clownboy&jobo,), I can see the album now. Great pictures. Thanks for sharing!

I just saw it now, great pics. Looks like you had a blast! What a fabulous way to celebrate a special anniversary.

as you can see........................ she is not a tatty old girl as some comments state........ as my review states I cannot compare her with a newer ship, sailing caribbean, etc. the new carpets can clearly be seen in the atrium as can the rug under the grand piano $2m versace............. entertainment, dining, ambience on board, everything is subjective............... the best thing I could put is, go enjoy, experience and then remember.

    Happy Cruising everyone

  5. Thanks Clownboy and Keith Jenner - great info! Nice to hear the entertainment is of a good standard - we have been on Celebrity (one ship had very underwhelming entertainment, and one had unbelievable shows) and on RCI, (mostly very good), so am looking forward to seeing what Norwegian offers on our first NCL cruise.

have a look at review here:- http://www.cruisecritic.co.uk/memberreviews/memberreview.cfm?EntryID=568876 or photos here:-

  6. Thanks to everyone posting info. Can you please let us know what the evening entertainment in the theatre is like? I realize it's very subjective, but is it comparable to other lines/ships, and is the cruise director a good one?

As you have put entertainment is subjective, I myself was an entertainer for 20+ years and find it difficult to be entertained, we saw 2 shows in the theatre both excellent, the on-board team are very professional, with varied activities from circus & balloon workshops to origami & quizzes, also sudoku & crosswords to karaoke. But by far my favourite was "PRISM" in galaxy of the stars, 4 piece band with M & F singer, a mixture of ballads and slow dance music to salsa & country, then we threw them a curved ball and requested BON JOVI & they even covered that, so a very varied repertoire. The cruise director is Jill, an (English northern lass) very down to earth, but maybe not everyone's cup of tea :D

  7. Thank you Mark and Joanne, hope you are having a wonderful trip. If you are able to post pictures of any of the dailies on your return it would be really appreciated :)

we dis-embarked on the 5th, so we've been back over a week now. haven't got dailies sorry :(......... if I'd known I would help you look up Mark Clownboy on FB & you should be able to see photo's album ship, destinations, weather etc.

  8. I too would love to know from anybody who sailed on the Spirit info about dining and entertainment/activities. We're sailing June 18 and I love thinking in advance about what I want to make sure to experience. I appreciate the tips about when to be on deck to see the scenery coming into port.

Sent from my iPhone using Forums

  9. Would be great if you could let us know the show times and times of any evening quizzes. We enjoy taking part in these so will give us an idea what time to make our dinner reservations.

  10. Thanks for the information.

I hear you about the lifeboat drill. I cannot understand why people are late.

I heard that La Trattoria is still a cordoned section of Raffle Court for Dinner.

Can you tell us who is the Hotel Director?

Have you been able to notice upgrades as a result of the recent short drydock?

    How is the Internet service?

Please keep us posted if you can.

    Have a great cruise

we've just been on :) no probs on our drill, La Trat is part of raffles, Armando Da Silva is HD, mostly new carpets in public areas also seating re-covered in galaxy, didn't use internet, posted my photo's here:-

(full photo album, dunno if it will link)
  11. Sounds like we're safe then, bringing a hairdryer on board. Whew.

I dont worry about ironing either - good tip about the spray bottle though.

Another question for those that have just come off the Spirit - I've read a few reports of sewage smells on some decks, did you notice anything? I wonder if the plumbing was attended to in the drydock. We were on an older RCI ship 7 years ago (Rhapsody of the seas) which we loved, but the sewage smell in the corridor was pretty bad! Never had that on any other ship since. Didnt ruin our cruise at all but.. yuk...

    nothing last week.......sweet as a daisy :D

  12. Me too! I always take my own and have never had a problem taking it on a ship and using it, but have read here that there is a sign by the plug point that it's not to be used for a hairdryer. I also read a couple of posts where someone said they used it anyway and it was fine. Not sure why the Spirit would be different than any other ship re plug points so hopefully it will be fine to use my own. Alternative is to walk around Europe looking like a crazy hair lady 😲

I read on another thread that the Spirit has American standard and European plugs. My cousin bought me a Babyliss dual-voltage travel dryer for Christmas that I plan to take with me. When I went to France and Italy in 2015, all of the hotels had real blowdryers so I didn't need to bring mine. The blowdryer is extra weight in the suitcase that I'm willing to suffer through.

hi folks........... I have just returned off SPIRIT........... one traveller had a travel iron confiscated, hair dryer in en-suite, my wife took her own straighteners............ we called guest services and had an iron & ironing board delivered to state room, inside state-room there was 3 plugs at the dressing table 1 UK, 1 US, 1 EU......... we travelled with small adapters for US & EU so ended up with 3 UK sockets suitable for charging mobile whilst straightening hair & using laptop too!!! hope this helps :D

  13. The cruise director was Jill. She was British and I cannot remember her last name. I didn't have a problem with the service. It was good overall as was the food. The ship is another story.... I much preferred the cruise director staff though on the Sun in December. Seemed to have a lot more interesting and fun activities and just be more interactive overall. Jill did a good job but her underlings seemed to be lacking. Don't get me wrong, they tried and were enthusiastic. It just fell short.

Here is my post from another thread. I was on the ship this week:

"I was on the last sailing of the Spirit. Let me say that I knew going into it this was not a new ship. However, I thought NCL and comparable companies had minimum standards. If anything was refurbished, I couldn't tell. The ship is old. My cabin had more defects than my last 10 cabins combined. The common areas are not great in my opinion, but better than my stateroom. It is a hodgepodge. The Asian theme exists in most of the ship, but the pool, spa and main dining room have a Roman theme. Makes no sense to me. Cagney's steakhouse has an Asian decor. The flow is bad on the ship.

There was more wear on the ship than I've seen before in 10+ cruises. More rust. More torn carpet.

In my cabin (outside), they put a panel on the wall to cover something. Like if you had a huge hole in your wall at home and you just screwed a piece of drywall on rather than fixing it properly. There was another panel with marker on the wall like they were going to do something and decided not to. The carpet was frayed. There was a 4 inch open seam on the chair. The bed had nightstand on only one side and around 12 inches to get into bed on the one side. The clothesline didn't retract. A ceiling light was missing a cover. I could go on and on. Almost all of these things were cosmetic.

I am comparing the Spirit to the cruises I've taken on NCL, RC and Celebrity. I've taken 5 NCL cruises."

hopefully some if not all of these items will have been fixed by the time we board next week, we shall wait and see. this is our first cruise so I don't have a bench-mark to set standards to.

  14. I too have been wondering about the dry dock. I last went on the Spirit 2 years ago, and while the public rooms were fine, the cabins were in need of a facelift even back then. I am going next Monday on said ship and if no-one has posted before I will report back on my return on 23rd Feb.

could you e-mail me pendlebury121@aol.com any updates as we follow you onto SPIRIT 23rd onwards so I may miss your update :)

    Regards Mark
