  1. Is there a ship's airport transfer from Dover to Heathrow Airport? - we have not used Flight Ease so we are independent travelers.  If one is not offered, I am looking for suggestions for reliable transportation for 2 adults - we do not want to have to manage our own bags on the public transport.  We will be in no rush as we do not fly out until the next day.

  2. I'm booked on a Celebrity transatlantic leaving from Civitavecchia in a couple of weeks. The transfer from FCO airport to the ship through Celebrity is $75 (per person.) Who knows if that price will be the same next year though!

Thanks - that is the figure I needed. If we use their transfers it will be to use up our onboard credit. We have a very inclusive booking and no need for a large OBC.

  3. OP: I noticed you are from Canada. Is your flight nonstop to Canada on something other than Alitalia? If yes, the flight may leave from T3, but really god chance you have to start at T5 for all the preliminaries. If you are connecting somewhere in Europe for the flight onward, T3 is true. Just wanting to be sure of that, given the morning flight time.

Direct to YYZ (Toronto) on Air Canada. Tickets say terminal 3. Will confirm before we leave. Thanks for the "heads up"

  4. Does anyone know approximately how much Celebrity charges for their transfer to FCO? Can it be booked onboard? We will have a very large shipboard credit and thought this might be a good way to use some of it.

We have an 11:20 am flight but it is from terminal 3 so we only have to be there 2 hours ahead - I assume it won't be a problem using the ships transfer to get there in time.

We will book a private transfer if necessary.

  5. There is another thread on the same subject. The simple answer is, definitely yes, you can purchase flowers in port and bring them back to your stateroom. The only restriction is against potted plants as you cannot mover soil from Country to Country for obvious reasons. The flowers at the ports will be larger and prettier with a greater variety than you can purchase on board.

We have always purchased flowers from the stand at the port in Barbados, never had a problem taking them back on the Celebrity Ship. Last time we where there (Eclipse) we had them seized by the Environmental Officer (after he was called by security). We told him we had done it on previous cruises on Celebrity - He was adamant that we were mistaken, and company policy was and is - no fresh flowers. Often wonder if he enjoyed them as much as I might have.

We will be there again this December and would love to be able to buy them for the cabin but reluctant to take the chance.

  6. Wondering if anybody has booked the Shore Excursion from St. Thomas (STG4) Destination St. John: Guided Shopping & Leisure Time just to take advantage of the ferry ride over and back. We're experienced St. John travelers on our own but by booking this excursion it appears you could save time since they use a private ferry that picks you up and returns you to very near to where your cruise ship docks in St. Thomas.

The tour description says you'll have 3-3.5 hours on your own. If the tour group leader in St. John doesn't mind if you're not present during the guided shopping portion that could give us another free hour or so.

We have done this 3 times - as soon as you get to St John you can do whatever you like. We walk outside the docking area and grab a cab to the beach. We have also rented a car on St John.

We do it for the convenience, and not having to worry about time getting the ferry back to Red Hook then an expensive taxi, through traffic, to the port. Parking a rental car in Red Hook is not easy.

Another consideration is where you are docked in St Thomas - it works well from either location.

  8. Considering a Sky Suite for the first time. Have seen lots of posts about all these rooms as being the best. Seems like the 6145/46 share the same furnishings as the Penthouse Suite, but the 6131/32 have larger balconies as they are angled out?

Is the location of 6131/32 by the elevator noisy at all? Anything else we should consider in selecting one of these rooms?

We loved 6146 - bathroom is huge, including two sinks, tub and walk in shower, the balcony has two loungers plus a large table and two chairs. There is an awning type cover which works well.

    Furnishings are extremely tasteful.

Our butler "Paul" was the best we have ever had (I understand the Penthouse suites get the most experienced ones and of course being the "extra" bedroom attached to the PH you get a senior butler as well.

Our only complaint was the piano next door - I am sure under normal circumstances you would not hear it but, we had children in the PH and I think they played it when bored (sounded like a player piano). The suite has an iPod dock so we simply put on our own music the couple of times we heard it.

Will book again, if we are lucky enough to have the chance.
