I think it is pretty clear that Celebrity was blind-sided by Omicron and was not prepared for it.

We were on a B2B on this cruise and the one before it.  The first one, also 12 nights, had only 1 case!  I think this cruise was a perfect storm, in a bad way.  There were more pax (I think about 600 more), holiday events on board and Omicron had exploded.  That being said, I was very disappointed in Celebrity's response and agree that they were overwhelmed.  Hopefully, they learned from this sailing and will do better on future cruises.

  2. Hello GenX!  I just found your review and have been enjoying it soooo very, very much.  I started laughing right away when I saw the pic of the champagne vending machine.  This got my DHs attention.  He stayed and read along with me for the rest of your review.  He pointed out, and I agree, that you and I are soulmates.  Other than the pea soup (my mother made me eat that stuff), our taste is quite similar. Champagne, escargot, mimosas, dancing, cosmos, eggs benedict, martini bar, grand marnier souffle, silent disco, enjoying the balcony late at night (alone, because he is already sleeping), lobster and a little bit of the casino thrown in, too. We will be on the Equinox December 10th to January 3rd for B2B 12 night cruises.  These were "lift & shift" cruises that became B2B.  This is a bit longer than our longest cruise and our first B2B.  We can't wait and your review has helped in so many ways!  Your comment about the demographics is spot on.  We are 71 and 73 and still enjoy all (mostly) the fun things that a cruise has to offer. Happy Thanksgiving and enjoy the rest of your cruise!

Busy day! Back in our room finally; its nearly 11pm!  The only reason I’m careful on a cruise is that I LOVE food so much. And I’m short, so if I gain 3 pounds on a cruise, its like a whole dress size!  Although I only eat 2 meals at home, I definitely get more calories on a cruise ship (including all the alcoholic drinks I don’t normally drink) but they get offset by all the walking! And exercise classes. Doing a Pulse Barre class in the morning!

But these ;problems (trying not to gain weight on a cruise ship) are the kinds of problems I’m happy to have!

And unfortunately (well, fortunately really) food at home is great and Russ is the main cook, so I definitely gained those COVID pounds!

I'm 5' tall, which I guess is really 5' short!  Used to be I could eat or drink whatever I wanted on a cruise and not gain any weight due to the walking.  Then it changed and I would gain a couple of pounds on a 7 night cruise, but I'd drop it within a week of getting home.  Now, I gain 2-3 pounds and it sticks like glue.  Age and metabolism I guess.  But I agree, not going to stop me from cruising!  I feel lucky to have the opportunity to gain weight and worry about losing it!  Thank you for taking the time to do this! We love Celebrity and the Equinox is one of our favorite ships.

  4. Jim, thank you so much for all your time and effort.  We are doing our first B2B on the Equinox in December with your last itinerary.  I realize that can change, but the information you have provided regarding the ship, the testing and the Covid protocols will probably still be relevant. Following you on this cruise has been amazing and fun.  We can't wait to sail in December!  I hope your cruise continues to go smoothly!

  5. I have an issue with motion sickness. I have literally gotten sick on a waterbed in the showroom of a furniture store. Can't ride in the back seat of a car for very long, etc. I use Bonine and take one the first day on the ship. If all goes well from there, meaning no rough seas, I don't need to take another one for the rest of the cruise. Bonine is a brand name, similar to Dramamine, but less drowsy. These ships are so big, even the small ones, that it's almost like being on dry land, unless you hit really rough seas. I also take some ginger candy with me to help keep nausea at bay, if needed, until Bonine or Dramamine can kick in. Everyone is different, but this has worked for me. I love cruising so I don't want to let my motion sickness stop me! Hope this helps.

  6. If they do have Jam Jar, try it or buy a bottle before you go. It's a sweet Shiraz. I like sweeter wines, but don't want them sticky sweet. This one has lots of flavor without being cloyingly sweet. I hope they have it on my next cruise, but I'll definitely bring a bottle with me.

  7. We have cruised by ourselves and with other couples. When it's just us, we always request a table for 6 or more and have always had wonderful dinner companions. A table for 4 can be risky because you may not be compatible with the other couple. With 6 or more you have a better chance of compatibility. I agree that a table for 10 is a bit much. We had a table for 10 on a 15 night cruise, but one couple never showed up after the first night. (Something we said?) The remaining 8 of us had a wonderful time, looked forward to sharing the days activities with each other. Very much enhanced our cruise!
