People on my cruise in 2 days just got upgrade notices today. Others report they didn't know until they checked in at the port (on previous cruises) 🙂

We got our guaranteed cabin assignment about 5 or 6 weeks out then got the upgrade at exactly 30 days out, moving up a few floors. And yay! I sail in 2 days 🙂

I'm on the 12/5 Epic (5 days away! yay!)
I paid $399 for a guaranteed inside. I bid 160 each for a balcony and got it. We went up to the 13th floor and have a family balcony right in the middle of the ship.
$559 for a 10 night cruise with a balcony cabin...and the 4 kids are staying home with Grandma 😄

I was just on my first NCL cruise and they had a "night out" where many people were dressed up. I suspect you'd feel comfortable on those evenings. We felt too under dressed for the dining rooms that evening (husband was in khakis and polo, I was in a casual dress and the kids were mostly in shorts/jeans). I think you should dress how you want and enjoy yourselves. I'd rather be over dressed than under any day :D
