  1. Sitting in the Garden Buffet in dock in Tampa on disembarkation day. Some of my favorites were the forward sun deck on deck 12, deck 9 of the atrium above O’Sheeghan’s (watch for Joesph the waiter - great guy!), and the pool deck when there was live Caribbean music. The Elements show is a must-see.

Sorry your vacation is over- but please clear the boat! We hoard today :). Thanks for the tips, will have to look for Joseph.

  2. Because this is cruise line specific I would ask on the NCL Board although I realize you are boarding in a couple of days so you may have made a decision already.

Thanks. I tried asking there too and no one had any info. Figured if it was unknown, we weren’t going to take a chance. Not sure what we will do in Santa Marta.

  3. We did it back in October. I loved the idea- but when a group solved it in 10 minutes it makes you wonder if they recycle ideas. It was sad- we didn’t even have time to get to all the puzzles and they were up there announcing how it worked.

  4. I know obc is talked about ALL THE TIME...sorry

I am just wondering what are some of the ways to use up obc. We have the ubp, udp, and gratuity paid. Can special things (like the choco strawberries) be booked on board? Just trying to get some creative ideas for spending this credit that people don’t normally think of. Thanks!

  5. My sister in law is a smoker and there was plenty of of places to smoke. One side of the pool deck was smoking and on deck 7 on one side you could smoke.

My parents just recently got off the dawn. My mom is a smoker and was very please by this ship. To the point she even wrote to ncl. They were recently on the escape and she was frustrated by lack of smoking areas and being stuck in a tiny spot. Said the dawn made her feel more welcome with spread out areas that she could sit and socialize while having a smoke.

  6. We are sailing on the Dawn next week and have a stop in Santa Marta Colombia. They only offer 4 excursions (that are crazy expensive and the only reviews I have seen are no good) and there is very little info available about the port. All I keep seeing is how gross it is, and how people get off the boat to get right back on.

To top it off, most of the beaches will be closed during the time we will be there.

Why would NCL have this as a port stop when there are MANY gorgeous and amazing places around?

  7. We called on Santa Marta on the NCL Sun in December.

People who did the resort day were disappointed. Bad food/facilities.

You can just go to a beach: The beach was great, people said, but police said it was too dangerous to walk the trail to walk there...take a cab.

(We booked a private tour... didn't do the beach ourselves).

Thank you so much! This is the type of info I was looking for.

  8. Tried posting over in the Santa Marta section with no response.

Has anyone done the resort day at Santa Marta? Trying to figure out what resort this is at. We will be away from kids and trying to give my parents as much info about where we will be as possible.

    Also- any reviews?

  9. Has anyone done this excursion? We are signed up for our Feb 7-18 dawn cruise. I am trying to figure out what resort this will be at (says 56 acre ecological complex). My parents will be taking care of our young children back home, so I am trying to give them as much info on where we will be. Called shorex- and they said they have no info on it?!?

  10. It was the Shorex number I called, same people I prebooked with. She said it’s because booking over the phone with them has it charge to your on board account and not paying before the cruise. Hope she is right, or I will have lots of obc and a big bill due.

Thought they were all the same company- just different departments, sorry to confuse.

hmmmm. When I talked with Shorex, they said I could only prebook with excursion credits -- not onboard credit. I wonder if the NCL agent may have mixed these up?

  12. So far our family has only sailed on the Jewel and the Escape. Both had their pluses and minuses, but overall our family preferred the Jewel. It was a completely different experience (and we are so glad we had the Jewel experience before the Escape or we may not have cruised again). The crew and passengers were the biggest difference. On the Jewel everyone was friendly and happy. Crew members constantly stopping you in the halls to say hi and see how things were going. Opposite experience for us on the Escape. On the Escape it was just too much. Too many crowds, rude people (passengers) and you could tell the crew was exhausted.

Even my 4,9,11 year olds all said they would rather go on the Jewel again (guess attractions don’t mean everything).

My husband and I are going on our first vacation alone and decided to try out the Dawn. Very excited and hoping for a similar “small boat” experience.

  13. We just booked a group on the escape. Rooms 9822/9824/9826. We have upto 4 in a room. We booked through an agent from NCL. I am concerned because deckplans show they only hold 3. I was under the impression balcony rooms had the sofa bed and a pull down. We were in the jewel and this was the setup (and ideal for us as we will actually have 5 in 1 room- 3 kids)

My parents are under the impression all rooms have the pulldown. Why would he book 4 into a room slated for 3?
