  1. From this thread it seems I'm a big fool, but last cruise I left about $3500 in mostly cash and a few Casino chips in the nightstand. That's a lot compared to crew salaries. Previous cruises I also left some substantial money there. Credit cards are in my wallet. Passport is on the desk so I won't forget it. I fully trust crew and officers not to steal.

There are just a few people allowed to enter your room, with every access logged. Some of them have access your safe anyhow, because they need your passport when you are too late. There are cameras everywhere. Who, in their right mind, would have access to your room and would be willing to spoil their career not to mention judicial punishment?

I haven't seen anyone reporting theft from a room on these boards, not even on a blog by a certain ambulance chaser. Of course ships have safes because people expect them to be there, but I don't think they are solving a real problem.

Nooooo! You are pulling our legs!!!

Please tell the truth it is a joke [emoji4] [emoji4]

So when is your next cruise? What is the cabin number again? Where do you live? What is your birthday? What is your first pet's name? What is the make of your first car? Where were you born? What are the 3 numbers at the back of your credit card?

    I am also a Nigerian prince[emoji41] [emoji41] [emoji41] [emoji41]

    Just kidding...

As long as you are happy, relaxed, and comfy with your arrangements, safe or no safe, it boils down to why dealing with all the fuss.

But the world is changing, lots of nasty stuffs around. Mankind's fall from grace started with a temptation from an apple, so they say...... Don't put apples where they don't belong.

  2. I am glad I saw this thread, I will be disembarking Zaandam Jan 6, 18 at Buenos Aires. I will certainly check into your recommended guides to go birding for few days before flying home.

  3. We always use the safe, apart from 'safe keeping' purpose, it is also 'some what fire proof' too.

I couldn't recall ever seeing reset code on a door to open a safe with forgotten codes.

The following is my experience with bad codes (malfunctioning codes) last month on the Crown Princess. The safe's code scrambled itself 3 times. 3 times I have to get the security supervisor to come and open it. He is only allow to come in the room with our presence. He would proceed and enter a few preset codes, then pickup the phone and talk to another person to obtain another set of codes before he can open the safe. The phone obtained codes are different every time because he had to call in all 3 times, and all 3 times he wrote it down on a piece of paper so he would not forget.

So, the access codes are not bullet proof to be 100%safe, but I am rest assured there are internal controls built into it to avoid abuse.

  4. OP: this is of course excellent advice. In Antarctica, you'll be doing a great deal of photography from the deck of your ship -- birds in flight, whales, seals, penguins. I had an 18-300mm lens on my DSLR, and definitely you could go much longer. (The true "birders" had at least 400mm lenses.) These are cropped from 300mm

    Hello Turtles06

    Great wildlife shots......

I am going on a big box Antarctic cruise by Holland America, I will not be going on shore.

I am an advanced amateur photographer and own Canon 100-400mm II, 1.4x II, 200mm F4, 500mm II, 16-35 F4, 10-18mm and others. My main interests are wildlife and landscape.

If possible I like to pack light with 2 APS-C bodies, 2 lenses. I am bringing the 16-35 and 100-400 for sure.

The wildcard is.... is it worth my while to bring the 500mm prime too? Will I be able to make use of it on deck?

  5. We used TJ at St Pete 2 weeks ago, our experience:

-Travel in small Van, our group has 10 cruisers

-Runs with military precisions, arrive at Hermitage, they already have a person stand in line for us, our small group just cut in, saved 1/2 the line up time (Friends on SPD tour had to start at the end of the line). Went to town, and they have paid scouts at street corners holding parking/unloading space for us. Arrive at lunch, sat down and lunch is served before my seat was warmed up! Very well organised.

-The guide has perfect guide-sense, rearrange the tour itinerary on tour day to avoid peak crowd time.

-Yes, we did have to go to 2 shops. First one is mostly for toilet break, 2nd one to their office to pay the tour fee in cash or CC (no need to pay up front!!). It was brief and no pressure.

-We need to pay for our lunch the 2nd day, 2 pieces of meat pies (delicious) and coffee, US$10 !!

-Mention Cruisecritic member and you get 10% off.

-We are happy with the tour, however, one lady mentioned to TJ office she felt rushed at the end at Hermitage (because the museum close at 6), The manager refunded US$20 to everyone on the bus. A very nice gesture.

Overall impression, well run, personal services, a fair operator, excellent local knowledge around the city.

What could be better? Skip the public market. Add the inside of St Issac Church, and canal cruise at Spill blood (the best outside view is from the tour boat)

  6. As evident by my photo guide (link on the first page) there is 2 bus stops at Østerport.

Bus 27 will meet up will 26 at the Østerport, Sløjfen bus stop and 25 and 26 will meet up at the Østerport st. bus stop.

At Nørreport you will go out to the far north end of the station square where the busses departs from.

Hello Danish Viking: just came back from Copenhagen and you've been a great help.

It might worth to note that now Busses 25, 26 and 27 all meet up at Osterport, Slojfen bus stop.

  7. Thank you Sing and Cedarmask. Try again still doesn't work. I think the problem is the browser. I guess I just have to buy it at the train station.

    Update::

We decided to buy the ticket at the Station, hopefully we could join up with a group from the ship and get the benefit of the 5 ppl group ticket.

Just for the record, we finally figured out that Bahn.de is not IE, Chrome or Safari friendly. I finally got through to their online booking using MS Edge browser, now I am rest assured that.... It is not me, it is them :) :) :)

  8. Hello Anni or any cruiser who has bought train tickets from Kiel to Lubeck ONLINE:

I went to the DB and Rail Europe sites, both cannot complete the transaction successfully.

Is on line purchase still available for this route? Or did I go to the wrong site.

    Any help will be appreciated.

  9. Thank you Danish Viking.

For question 3 - if I want to change to bus 26 at Osterport St., do bus 25 and 26 share the same stop?

For question 1 on the day I am going to Oceankaj, if I choose to take bus 25 at Norreport St., does it mean that after I get off the train station, just walk straight ahead then I will reach Bus 25 stop.

    Really appreciate your help.

  10. Hello Danish Viking: first time navigate this forum; I hope this message will reach you successfully.

I will be taking a cruise RT from Oceankaj Cruise Terminal and was overwhelmed with info regarding transportation. I did some research and would appreciate your input:

    1. From my hotel close to Orestad Station (on June 22, Wednesday) to Oceankaj - take RE train to Oresport St. And change to Bus 27 to Oceankaj. If this is the best route, how do I get to the closest Bus 27 stop from the train station?

    2. Return trip from Oceankaj (July 16, Saturday ) to my hotel close to Forum St. - take Bus 25 to Norreport St. Change to M1 or M2 and get off at Forum St.

    3. If I want to go to Central area from Oceankaj, would Bus 25 take me right there, and if so, what is the stop that I should get off? Or I have to take Bus 26; if so which stop I should get off ? Does Bus 26 stop at Oceankaj at all?

I hope you don't mind I post so many questions. First time to Denmark from Canada.

    Thank you for your time.
