  1. Thank you so much for all the helpful advice. The more time I spend looking at hotels (of which there seem to be hundreds) the more confused I get. We really appreciate the tips on specific hotels. This will really narrow my search. Again thank you.

We have stayed at Astotel Hotel 34B. Very affordable. Very nice. Free breakfast and snacks all day. Free drinks in mini fridge. Walkable to all areas and metro across from hotel. Staying again in September. Read the great reviews on TripAdvisor. Also connected to other Astotels around the city....you can go to any of them to use their facilities(snacks, drinks, coffee, restrooms).

  2. we generally save seats by the pool at 6 am so we can go back to our room and smoke on the balcony and then when heading back to our reserved chairs around noon we stop at guest services to have our DSC removed because we like to tip only those who serve us ( we really don't tip anyone, please keep this part secret) yea we tip much more then they would have gotten, we are very generous ( we are really not, please don't tell anyone). During all this we let our kids run wild down the hallway ( actually we join them) and sometimes we have to take a rest and sit on the steps while blocking everyone from going up and down.

OMG. You made my day! I couldn't stop smiling for 10 minutes!

Also, we don't wash our hands before or after we eat. We don't use tongs to get buffet food...just our hands. We smoke on balconies or anywhere we please...it's okay no one will complain![emoji12]

  3. I just got off the Spirit on 4/12/17. She's beautiful! Elegant ship, and they cleared out much of the Asian decorations, but left a few. Very uncluttered look now.

It appears all the carpets are new: not faded, stained, or worn from traffic. Our cabin, 4570, had new drapes, upholstery, and bed skirts. Immaculate bathroom. No smells at all.

Food snd service was excellent in the main dining room, buffet, Cagney's, and Le Bistro. We had none of the very long dinner times mentioned before.

Our cruise was very port-intensive, so we were too tired to check out the entertainment.

I loved this ship, crew, and the cruise was one of my best in 43 years of cruising!

Wow. Glad to hear that. I'm so happy y'all had a great cruise. Thanks for the update!

  4. Just a quick update from the Spirit.

As I expected, there are no noticeable changes from when we were onboard last (Summer 2015). We did suffer from the musty smell in the toilet previously, but haven't noticed anything like that this time. I think it's been generally tidied up. Everything looks in good condition to me.

Thank You Keith! I tried to look up videos/pictures of the Spirit spa area but no luck. Have you or any of your family tried it? I know it's not like the thermal spa on Escape but wanted to know if it's worth it on the Spirit. Thanks in advance for any info.

  5. It seems you are leaning toward the Spirit then. That initiary also sounds pretty great. About rooms....minisuites are not suites. They don't have any amenities like real suites. It's just a bigger room with a balcony. But if you decide on Epic...the spa balcony is nice. The spa thermal suite area was just relaxing and rejuvenating after days in ports. I have a spa balcony booked on my May Escape cruise (3rd time on it!).

How about this initiary? Venice is very romantic. I'm doing Paris for 4 days then Rome for a few days before this cruise. I've been on the Getaway and Escape....now wanting to try a smaller and longer cruise. Whatever y'all decide u can't go wrong. Happy Sails!

The Venice port is overnight....so a romantic gondola ride at night is soooooooo pretty!

  7. We have a Deck 14 Aft suite booked for the Xmas cruise this year, previously had a Deck 10 Aft balcony on the first T.A to Miami, the aft Seaside suites will have great views along with the choice of being at the back or along the side with the wraparound balconies.

I also have an aft deck 14 Suite (14262) booked for May 2018. Please please take pics and do a review. I hope 🤞 I made the right choice!

  8. Thank You so much for this great review! I'm glad y'all had fun and sharing experiences with your family is even better. Memories of a lifetime. Our B2B trip is not till September but I've been voraciously soaking up any and all info about our ports and the Spirit.

  9. I just booked 9210 on Seaside. It's suppose to be an Aurea Suite. It was somehow much cheaper than a regular balcony. Is there something wrong on this deck and those suites. Thanks for any info and insight.

  10. Yes! Another DT live review. Wishing you happy sails. You're going to my hometown New Orleans. Stop by to get coffee and beignets at Cafe Du Monde and the best BBQ oysters at Drago's in the Hilton near Riverwalk.

  11. Prices have gone back to normal. Just thank you to OP bc my 2 sisters and I got our flights for less than $500 pp. Now it's $1500 pp![emoji15]. There are still cheaper prices on Delta/AF/KLM but only on certain days and routes.

  12. Thank You! Thank You! I just check for my airline from New Orleans to Paris then Rome back to New Orleans round trip w/insurance is less than $500. I check just a few days back and they were $1400. I saved a lot!

  13. As I have the Spirit booked for Jan 2018.....I was expecting a newly redesigned ship. The NCL web site had 4 ships listed on the edge program for 2017 refurbishments, one of them was the Spirit. Well I just looked at the list and it has changed....2 ships for 2017 the Jade and Pearl. The Jewel is now listed for 2018....the Spirit is not listed at all. If the Spirit is going to leave the fleet or head to China I sure hope they tell me so I don't spend the next year thinking I am sailing on the Spirit to the Canary Islands and holding onto my deposit till the last minute.

Exactly! I have a B2B on the Spirit in 9/2017. I just finish paying for one and half on the other. Im also scared to book airlines and hotels ahead of time.
