  1. The problem I am referring to is if Cunard set running times don't align with when your child wants to eat. You could opt for late sitting, feed your child whenever (room servicw/kings court) and so long as they were asleep before 8.30 you can enjoy dinner in peace. Families should do what's best for them. The only childcare Cunard offer for the under 2s is the night nursery so I can understand people making use of it. Spending time with kids is great but some time as a couple is nice too.

You say many are familiar with children and while I sure this is true your post specifically referenced an experience you have had with kids at late sitting. I thought it was worth pointing out this could occur just as easily at early sitting.

    Hi Ben,

Personally I prefer CUNARD because of their policy on limiting children. It really is not a cruise for under 18.

At the B&W Ball they specifically said keep children in the center of the dance floor. Of course the parents did not and tripped up the dancers.

I am not a snob, but children / toddlers do not belong at such a formal occasion. They were cranky, jumping all around, and disturbing everyone.

  2. CUNARD QM2 was the best! I love the idea of limiting the number of children that are allowed. Average age is 50. No complaints at all; 5 star service at all times. Food service was definitely white glove!

Peaceful and quiet. Be sure this is what you are looking for in a cruise. Cabin attendant was always available. Balcony was so roomy and the view was outstanding. No wonder they book a year in advance. Already booked for next year.

If you are looking for class and refinement, this is the cruise for you. No wild water slides and children all over the place.

Cannot say how impressed I was with the service and politeness of everyone; passengers and crew!

Thank you for a wonderful experience and looking forward to the next cruise!

  3. Daughter and grandaughter currently on Elizabeth ..early dining has been confirmed for weeks

Get on board and folk who want late dining given early and confirmed early diners given late seating

Maitre D being downright rude to everyone

    Pursers no help

This is ridiculous who wants to eat at 8.30 and not have access to entertainment till 10.30

Talkabout spoiling their first and what will now be last cruise on Cunard

If thats how they treat people they can stuff it

We are Diamond members and on it on 25th and also have confirmed early dining so Cunard need to start thinking

Even their phone number for head office in theUK is not answering calls despite it not yet being 8pm

It is clearly in the contract dining time is not guaranteed. Only cruise on QM2 and no problems, whatsoever. Think this could have been resolved. Cannot imagine CUNARD not accomodating if possible.

  4. July 23 to Bermuda. The main reason I mentioned it was because I felt like I was at a State Fair, not a cruise. Everyone I spoke with felt the same way. Everyone. As a solo travler, mingling is a favorite pasttime. RD should have done something. It really was beyond the pale. Kids were running wild, trash all over the place, no wait staff to speak of, food was sub-par, technoligy and elevators broken, no Safety Muster because the video did not work, etc. Guess the "kids free" was a big reason, too. As a solo travler, I paid twice the price for a cruise at a flea market.

Cunard for the next cruise, definately.

  5. "we are british" :) - made me smile!

I wouldn't cruise on P & O over here (which is probably the equivalent of Royal in the US) due to the formality and dress code but enjoy dressing to the nines on Royal. Work that one out :p

    .

What are the dress codes onboard?

    A:

    Onboard Dress Code

Smart Casual: Ladies: Skirt or pants (no holes, rips or tears) with a blouse. Gentlemen: Pants (no holes, rips or tears) with a collared shirt.

Formal: Ladies: Cocktail dress or pantsuit. Gentlemen: Suit (black tie is optional)

Note: Swimsuits, robes, bare feet, tank tops, baseball caps and pool wear are not allowed in the main restaurants or specialty restaurants. T-shirts, shorts and flip-flops are acceptable for lunch.

Note: Smart Casual is allowed on Boarding Day at The Grande Restaurant (should only be included where we are speaking about The Grande)

  6. We were on the 7-23 Anthem and there were plenty of folks that were dressed like bums in my opinion but I minded my own business and only worried about me and my family. You can't let something like this ruin your vacation. We specifically went to the Grande on the first night so that we didn't have to bring dress clothes. I saw plenty of folks dressed up also.

Here is a Compass off Allure for July. Shorts not mentioned as against the rules any longer.

I think it is self evident that this was a "different" class of cruisers.

    Hi Scott Girl,

Same trip. The boards are exploding with negative comments about that cruise. I had a man show up at the Chef's Table -strictly formal- in shirt sleeves. The athletic t-shirt was too much for me.

Tables were full of trash all over the ship...I ended up dining on my balcony. Very peaceful.

  8. We are sailing March 7th and have signed up for the Mystery Dinner and also Chef's Table (I believe that is the name). Would love to hear from anyone that has previous done those Dinners aboard RCCL and even better on the Jewel?

Just did Chef's Table two weeks ago on RC. Would never cruise without booking this fabulous dinner. Wonderful!

  9. Sailing on Anthem Aug 6th. Thinking about Chef's Table. Has anyone done it recently. Thoughts on the menu?. Its pricey, is it worth it. ? Thanks.

I will try to remember to let you know! Mine is scheduled for July 25th. I cannot wait. You can always book and cancel if you change your mind. Remember limited to 16 at the table x 5 nights. That is only a maximum of 80 available seats. Have heard nothing but excellent reviews. Since there are no more set formal nights, to me that is just an added PLUS!

  10. I know a jackets is required for grand so I assume pants as well[emoji3], does anyone know if shorts are ok in other dinning rooms. Most of our guys have great looking dress shorts and collard shirts. So I guess the question is short pants or long pants?

    Hi Folks!

Less than a week to go !

As far as dress code, I read everything I could find, and IMHO it boiled down to this. Many areas said "we are British" ... we realize people come from other countries but ... Even in Bermuda, the tourist board information said "Bermuda shorts and Jackets, for men, in the evening ... Dress slacks and blouses for women".

On the ship, no speedos at the pools for men, no topless sunbathing, string thong bathing suits on women. No walking around the halls in bathing suits. I think it said within 25 feet of the pool area.

Some customs may be allowed in your country, but "we are British".

Personally I am all for it. All your questions are answered in cruise the Compass (available on line) and on RCL web site. When traveling to another country one abides by the customs in that country. It is just respect. Why spoil your vacation by being embarrassed?

I am so looking forward to Saturday!!!!!

  11. We will be sailing on the Anthem for the first time in Jan. & were told that the men must wear a jacket while in the Grande. We got off the Oasis last month & while jackets were supposed to e required, many did not follow the code. Is it just as relaxed on the Anthem?

    Hi!

The Grande and Chef's Table are Formal; the other restaurants are "Smart Casual". Just checked the dining page. No swim suit covers, etc. There are still people like me that look forward to dressing for dinner. The "White Glove" tea on Cunard is awesome to me and stuffy to others :-)

Everything is posted on their web page. Also, check the British dress codes on Bermuda to avoid embarrassment.

Hope this helps! Have a great trip. There are many casual venues.

    Hi!

I hope the restaurants that advertise "formal" enforce the dress code, especially when you pay more. Just as no speedos at the pool :-)
