  1. Amelia Island is beautiful, but unless you're staying at one of the oceanside hotels/resorts, there is not a lot to see and do.

I suggest you take an Uber or taxi to Jacksonville International Airport (JAX), rent a car and drive south to St Augustine. It's a 56 minute drive (51 miles from JAX), mostly freeway. It is picturesque, and there are many sights to see.

You're fortunate to have a long layover in Jacksonville.

  2. I don't think many bars use these glasses. I was pleasantly  surprised that they were available on the Journey. Apparently,  the waiters and bartenders in the Den didn't know that they were whiskey glasses.

Also, there is a nice selection of single malt scotch, and the price is at least half of what you would pay in a bar in the States.

  3. My wife and I were on the “Journey” for the 12 night Adriatic cruise in October, 2022.  After the evening show, we usually went to the Den for a drink and to listen to the piano player. The first time we went, I ordered a single malt scotch. I told the waiter that I wanted it neat and inquired if he could put it into a whiskey glass. He didn’t know what I was talking about, so I told him to pour it into a small wine glass. The next evening, I again order a scotch. The waiter remembered me, and he brought it over in a wine glass. The following night, I thought I would try something different. I drew the waiter a picture of a whiskey glass. To my surprise, he poured my scotch into a whiskey glass, which was engraved with the name of the Macallan distillery. After I finished, he told me that I could take the glass back to my cabin. I thanked him and told him I didn’t want to take his only engraved glass back to my cabin. He disappeared into the room behind the bar and returned with a smile on his face and a large tray, which was filled with Glencairn whiskey glasses.

  4. I grew up in Cleveland and have lived in Jacksonville for 40 years. The cruise terminal is about 14 miles northeast of downtown Jacksonville--in the middle of nowhere. There are no homes nearby. You may have a hard time getting an Uber or Lyft. The port is about 12 miles southeast of the Jacksonville airport (JAX), and it is almost all freeway (I 295) to the airport. Unless there is a wreck, there should be no traffic congestion on the way to JAX. Traffic will be moving at 70 mph, and you should get to the airport in about 15 minutes. I think you should consider taking a taxi from the cruise terminal. Go to the Jacksonville Cruise Terminal website for taxi and shuttle information.

Since you have never been to this area, my other suggestion is not to just fly here to meet the cruise and fly right back. Why not spend a few days in Northeast Florida and/or the golden isles of Georgia before or after the cruise? The airport is not far from Amelia Island and the Golden Isles--a great vacation area with wonderful beaches and golf courses. Or you could go south to PonteVedra Beach (did you see the TPC golf tournament that was played there last weekend?) It is about 20 miles southeast of downtown Jacksonville. Another 20 miles south is St. Augustine, the oldest city in the US with lots to see and do. My final suggestion is to just skip the cruise and come to Northeast Florida, particularly if you are a golfer or enjoy the beach.

  5. I emailed Blackberry, and they only do "long distance" trips to and from airports. They won't take me to a train station. I also emailed bettertaxi.com. They were expensive because they wanted to use a van.

I forgot to mention that the ship arrives in Greenwich at 5 pm the day before disembarkation. I think I'm going to have Azamara guest relations help me book a local taxi when we arrive in port. I'll take the phone numbers with me. They should also have a better idea of the time and place for the pick up.

Thanks for all the prompt replies.

  6. My wife and I are booked on an Azamara cruise which ends in Greenwich on Sunday, June 17. We need to travel from the pier to St Pancras station to catch a 12:24 train to Paris. As we have 4 suitcases, I do not want to take public transportation. I’m not sure whether to use an Uber, taxi or car service. Which one would be most convenient? Also, the Azamara website states that passengers must debark no later than 9 am. When should I tell the driver to meet us at the pier? Thank you.
