I teach elementary (and I hear horror stories about middle school so I can't speak for those teachers). Honestly, as long as the student isn't really struggling I don't care if they miss school to experience traveling, so either time would be fine with me. I'm not sure how it is in your state, but for us, we have to send that last report card home on the last day of school with the students. That means grades have to be turned in to admin about two weeks before school even ends. So we're not teaching anything new the last week or two before school gets out. Go for it, whatever time works best for your family. I would suggest talking to the teachers though. It's always better to hear it from the parents than to hear from the kids (or their friends) that they're going out of town and the parents said nothing to you.
Can we still do Mendenhall Glacier with a whale watching at 10am
in Alaska

We're in Juneau 6:30am-4:00pm and we have a private whale watching boat booked for our party of 12 at 10am. I would love to do the Nugget Falls hike at Mendenhall Glacier while we're in Juneau but I'm not sure if we'll have time, what do you think? I've read reviews of people going first thing in the morning and enjoying the hike before the crowds but it's going to be cutting it close before our whale watching. I also looked up the shuttle and it doesn't run that early, so it seems like we'd be taking a cab if we wanted to go early (unless you have another suggestion).
