  1. We just used this in October for the first time and had the most awesome experience ever.  Because children under 5 could not go on any kind of swimming excursion and yet needed to be on an actual RC excursion to get off the boat - it was the only way we could get my little fish of a granddaughter in the water.  It was ridiculously expensive, but there were 11 of us on a large private catamaran.  The personal attention was amazing and they made sure the fish were swarming my grandson!  We were also very late getting back to the boat (having to hold the ship for us - yes, that late) and it was such a relief that the ship had to wait for us.  This is very expensive, and it won't be done on every cruise, but it was so worth the money.  We all still talk about the great time we had snorkeling over various ship wrecks in St Thomas!

  2. We are hopefully heading out to San Juan in October and after reading the posts about the streets and hardship of Old SJ, I am wondering what hotels would be best for a scooter user with a severe brain injury?  My son doesn't have the ability to make smart decisions so I don't want to risk him falling over while trying to go down a steep hill.  (the first day he got his scooter he was doing donuts and rolled it, lol).  Any suggestions?  I am guessing somewhere not in Old SJ?

Hi there— while I’m not obviously not the OP, I saw your post and thought I’d reply. We cruised to Jamaica in November and I had a hard time discerning good excursion options for our 5 year old, so I empathize with you. We ended up doing a ship sponsored excursion to the Martha Brae River— it was a rafting trip on a bamboo raft.  A little kitsch, but our son loved it!!! We rode there (took about 30 minutes from Falmouth) on a bus, and then the trip down the river took about two hours— you’re seated up above the water, so you don’t get wet/- you sort of just float along— our guide was awesome with children, even let our son paddle the raft with the long pole. I would recommend at least looking into this as an option. Life vests provided. Then back to the port area.

Hi.  I am looking into the Martha Brae tour but I have an adult son that is handicapped and can't walk long distances and he also has trouble on uneven terrain.  Would this be possible for him?  Is there a long walk to the actual raft?

    Thanks in advance!

Do they sell food at Blue Lagoon?

Yes, they do.  I bought the stingray package and just walked to the beach as it was cheaper.  The animal packages also include the inflatable park - which the kids loved!  Quite a few jelly fish in the water though...

We were just there 2 days ago.

  5. Has anybody done this before? I would really like to stop at the Alyeska tram on the way to Anchorage and can't find a transfer that does that. Has anyone rented a private driver? There are no cars available to rent as I just booked the cruise and we leave Monday.

  6. I just booked a cruise using the military discount and the rep on the phone told me that when looking at cruises, just click on military discount ONLY and you will see them all. It takes some digging even from there because you don't really know which category of room it is, but it can be worth it. We saved over $10,000 on an 11 night cruise to Hawaii, but we did book only about 6 weeks from the date of travel.

  7. Not totally accurate, the military member has to be with you when you first validate the ticket. So they can't get the ticket and give it to you. They can go with you and you don't have to be in the military. But they have to be there and show their DOD ID when you first enter one of the parks.

Actually, there are 2 types of tickets. The least expensive one needs to have the military member present, but the other does not. It's still cheaper that buying at the park though.

  8. And if you are military (or know anyone who is) go to shadesofgreen.org and get discounted Universal and Disney tickets. It's so worth it!

You can also get a year pass for $300 and you may find that worthwhile if you think you will be back in the next 12 months.

    LOVE Universal!

One last option - I know a guy that does VIP tours. NEVER a line on any ride at Disney or Universal. It's super expensive, but worth it if you only have 1 day. Let me know if you need his number...
