Never heard of the guy. I looked up his web site. He seems to be quite full of himself with very extensive details of his entire personal life. His opinion is simply one man's opinion. And, in my personal opinion, his overall assessment is WRONG. I can't wait to get on Azamara again. I currently have 5 future cruises coming up on Azamara, all booked as a result of my wonderful recent onboard experiences. I hope he doesn't deny some people the opportunity to have a wonderful cruise experience because of his incorrect classification of Azamara.

You echo my sentiments,( up his own porthole)

Ribena used to be very popular until hateful Jamie Oliver stuck his nose in everyone's business and convinced the government to bring out a sugar tax. Ribena removed the sugar, added some chemicals and ruined the taste

You can purchase both versions in the uk, with sugar(original) or sugar free, its more expensive with sugar but tastes much better.

As for Chelsea Steve, don't knock it till you try it mate.

  3. Thanks for the reply.

Looks like i will be out of luck on this one, do not think that they sell concentrated blackcurrent in cartons (only small already diluted fizzy version). Shame really as blackcurrent is a popular mixer in the UK. (Every pub will carry it as standard as they will lime juice)

Cruise ships in general are out of touch with current popular drinks i.e. fruit ciders, craft beer, flavored gins and vodka, etc. but hey ho maybe one day?

At least i can pop in to Wetherspoons in most parts of the UK and obtain my drink of choice (Guiness and black) along the way.

    Cheers!😇

  4. Hi everyone

Anyone know if it is allowed to bring a bottle of Ribena (blackcurrant) onboard?

On a British Isles cruise soon and do enjoy a bit of currant with my cider, also in my Guiness. (Princess Emerald)

I have the drink package but always struggle on boats to find a mixer, same when you want a shot of lime juice always end up with a slice of lime.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Thank you for your kind concern, and yes...I am aware of the facts, thank you. Yes, I know how serious this virus is, my sister is a doctor.  She is a specialist with her own clinic and on staff at two hospitals.  Her specialty?  She is an ID doctor..yes doctor of infectious diseases.  I will adhere to her suggestions.  I am still going to hope for the best.  It's all any of us can do.

Did you know that more people have contracted the common flu more often than Covid-19, and more people die from it?

I am sorry that you seem to think my post was directed at you personally, it was not.

It is just that a certain minority on these forums seem to think that this virus will blow over in a few weeks and normal service will be resumed.

As for the common flu, yes well aware of the facts, this is not the same, 919 people died yesterday in Italy from covid 19 you will not find those sort of figures for the common flu.

If you like facts then on current information the mortality rate for covid 19 is 4.5% which makes it 45 more times deadlier than the flu.Pretty scarey huh.

Agree...I have 28 in the hopper...and just gambled on booking the Harmony 5/31 cruise leaving in two months.  It is what it is, lets get back to cruising life!!  🙂

Well i love your optimism, but you do know that you live in the USA and this virus has a long way to go. No vaccine or cure.

I would be surprised if any cruise will be sailing before September and if at all this year.

Would you be prepared to sail in Europe in May or June?(5-9 weeks time) or anywhere for that matter with up to 5000 people aboard in close proximity. This is not a drill, this virus is a killer and should be treated with the utmost respect.

We all want to cruise again BUT only when it is completely safe to do so, that should not be decided by the cruise lines or Donald Trump but by the world health organisation. If you have not experienced any disruption due to Covid 19 in your area then you are lucky but don't be fooled this a serious disease and the patience you show now by not congregating in large groups will save lives.

Lets hope by isolating ourselves during this period will buy us enough time to overcome this virus and get back to some sort of normality.

    Stay safe.

We received our assignment in April for our December cruise last year so about 8 months in advance.  Easy enough to change, just call and ask to switch.  Just have  to be in the exact same category.  Best to already have a cabin picked out and just ask to switch from xxxx to yyyy.

Im guessing that assignments are done by computer which is why they were not assigned near each other.

Main thing is that you are on the same ship!😁

Mine said deck 10 for weeks then I was assigned a ocean view balcony on deck 10

Just got assigned our g,tee balcony back to back cruise 12 days out, 1st week got a 1b spacious balcony midship, 2nd week got a 2d large balcony midship 2 decks apart. Not the same cabin for both weeks but not a big deal, can soon move suitcase down 2 decks and will kinda feel like starting a new holiday. Very happy.

We're sitting at our gate in Dubai airport waiting for our flight so I'll give some final thoughts.

Disembarkation was easy, we had breakfast in the DL (no sign of Anis the concierge) and walked off at 8.30. There are check in desks inside the terminal for all Emirates flights so we got rid of our luggage.

I have not said much about the ship, I wanted to wait until the end of the cruise so I had the full picture. First of all let me say that as always we enjoyed the cruise and loved the itinerary. I know Jewel is an older ship but we both love this class and loved this ship when we were on only 18 months ago.

This time we both felt that something was missing. There was no one thing that was actually wrong but just a general feeling of things being a bit run down and the staff (with a few noticeable exceptions) being lacklustre. I did question myself a few times but after conversations with other guests many seemed to feel the same way. The DL concierge in particular was terrible, he seemed to ignore the guests, never heard him have an actual conversation with anyone. So different from every other concierge we've ever had.

Dinner in the MDR was good every night and our waitress very friendly. Our stateroom attendant was also fine.

I think it was just that nothing 'wowed' me like it usually does. Having said all that I still would have happily stayed on for another week😁.

To all those of you travelling soon I hope you have a great trip and let me know if you have any questions.

Thank you for your review, it will be very useful on our upcoming cruise. Sounds like you had a lot of fun. Can you remember what terminal the ship docked at in Port Rashid?

Nine days ago we thought we'd be boarding Quantum in Singapore today. The Coronavirus outbreak changed all that! On Friday 7th with the situation worsening in Singapore we decided to call our TA to see if we could cancel. After going backwards and forwards for a bit they agreed that we could get a full refund for the whole package (cruise, flights and 3 night hotel stay) so we booked this instead. Just checked our credit card and the money has been refunded today. RCL eventually cancelled this cruise on Tuesday 11th when we would have been on a flight to Singapore so something worked out for us!

As you can imagine we had a hectic few days sorting everything out but currently sitting in our hotel room in Dubai and a couple of days after arriving it finally feels like we are on holiday😀

I was always planning to do a live review from Quantum as there is so little info available so I decided why not still do one from a different ship. Please feel free to comment, ask questions or just follow along for the ride.

So we are Julie and Mark, mid 50s from the UK, love RCL but also cruise other lines. We've cruised in this area a couple of times before (Costa and MSC) and done a Suez Canal cruise ending in Abu Dhabi on Celebrity. That was in my top 3 all time cruises partly because it was timed to fit in with the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix and we're big F1 fans. We were last on Jewel 18 months ago for the TA from Rome to San Juan.

    Our itinerary

    1      Dubai 5:00 PM
2 Sir Bani Yas, United Arab Emirates 8:00 AM 6:00 PM
    3 Doha, Qatar 8:00 AM 6:00 PM
    4 At Sea - -
5 Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates 8:00 AM -
6 Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates - 8:00 PM
7 Dubai, United Arab Emirates 8:00 AM -
8 Dubai, United Arab Emirates -

I believe the original itinerary also included Bahrain but that was changed a few weeks ago.

I'm no great photographer, just tend to take snaps on my phone when I remember so I apologise in advance, this will be nothing like a Twangster review (I love those).

We've still got a couple of days left in Dubai to enjoy before we board, we've booked a Dhow dinner cruise for tonight so off to get ready for that now.

    Hi

Looks like you are having a great time and the weather is looking good.

Will be following your review as as on the jewel on the 9th and 16th cruises.

We too were on the Grand Prix cruise with celebrity and agree with you that it was a great cruise with marvelous weather and interesting destinations.

    Have fun!

They would probably need a sat nav to find that particular island.

It is an island they tender to on middle east cruises and yes apparently they do bring the buffet ashore along with certain drinks from your drink package which is great news for me.

SBY buffet from ship, burgers and stuff, water ok but nasty coarse sand and very rocky in water. Bring water shoes.

Are you saying that they took the buffet to the island?

The above menu is specific to the Gin Bar, which is located to the left of the Safari Club, just past the pool tables.

I'm sure you could get them at any main bar.

Two flavoured gins with mixer was $18.88 inclusive of gratuity.

Many thanks icsys, will be my first stop after boarding and probably my last stop before retiring that evening!
