  1. We arrive at 7:00 in Bar Harbor and depart at 7:00 pm.  Couple questions........How far is the docking terminal from the park?  Is it possible to either walk from the terminal to the park or rent a cab?  We would like to hike in the park for a few hours.

  2. Is the main dining room open for breakfast in the wee hours of the morning for early port calls in Ketchikan, Juneau, and Seward? If not, what is?

Is dress really that important on board for an Alaskan cruise? If you want to sit in the Martini Bar or Rendevous Lounge is jeans going to hack it?

Lastly, if we want to get around quickly in Anchorage for a few hours what is the best avenue to do this? I want to revisit my old neighborhood of 35 years ago ;-) Yes, we are first time cruisers :D

  3. Just trying to decide if I bring my own hairdryer or not on the Millennium. What kind of hairdryer is available in the ocean view rooms? Is it the horrible wall attachment style in the bathroom? Or a desk area type that is attached to a drawer? Or is it a regular type that can be plugged in at the vanity desk area?

    Thanks :)

Is am so glad you asked this question! My concern is if the room's hairdryer has a cool setting. My hair is very fine so I never use a hot or warm setting....always cool. Call me weird but can any of you answer this question?

  4. We had planned a cruise on Princess that did not include Fairbanks. The couple we are going with desire to see Fairbanks which means cruising on Celebrity. In your all's opinion, is Fairbanks worth seeing? If so, is the riverboat cruise worth taking? Understand each cruise line offers different ports, amenities, etc., but for an Alaskan cruise would you choose Celebrity or Princess?

  5. I am concerned about having an obstructed balcony. After looking at deck plans on the Coral Princess, I cannot locate the life boats. I do not want to pay for a balcony if I won't be able to see from it. Lastly, on the Denali Explorer packages...........am I correct in assuming meals are not included at the Denali Princess and Mt McKinley Princess?

  6. Well' date=' when I first read this, I thought you were cruising next week! Guessing you are looking at a cruise in July, 2017. And it sounds like you are booking a cruisetour rather than just a cruise.

I would recommend a good agent who specializes in Princess. They can get you any deal that Princess offers and usually a better price. If you and your friend want cabins next to each other, the easiest thing is to use the same TA who will process you each separately but get the bookings together and link the for dining.

There are lots of ways to get on board credit (real money to spend on the ship.) One that we didn't know about was the referral credit. If you know someone who has cruised on Princess, have them "refer" you by completing a very quick on line form. If you cruise within 2 years of the referral, each referred person gets $25 in OBC AND the person doing the referral gets $25 on their next cruise. This credit is per person, not per cabin....so you and your spouse could each get the $25 as could your friends!

Land portions before or after....we like before because if the stupid airlines lose our luggage, it allows more time for our stuff to catch up with us. And if there is some incredible transportation issue, I'd rather miss a land day than a portion of a cruise.

Check out EZ Air prices--Princess is the ONLY line that I use their air program. I find the prices to be significantly better than I can get on my own and I get to choose my flights. Princess guarantees to get me to the first possible port if a transportation disaster happens (we usually come in a day early to avoid such issues), and if the ship is late or whatever on the way back, they'll rebook the flights at no added expense to me.

Travel agents get "points" for your booking. My TA turns around and gives me the "points" as OBC on my cruise. They don't have to reward YOU with the points, but many do.

If you book now and see a better rate/better perks before your final payment is due, you can always rebook. That way you still have the cabin you want.[/quote']

Guess it is obvious we are newbies when it comes to cruises. We will be booking a land/sea package not just the cruise. Never heard of EZ air prices with Princess but will check this out. Doing the land portion before the cruise certainly makes sense under your logic. Thanks for your suggestions!

  7. We are taking our first cruise ever to Alaska in July 17. We plan on going with another couple who live in a different state. A few questions.....What is the best way of booking our cruise? Should we make our reservations first then explain to our friends where our cabin is...etc.? Should we book our cruise through a travel agent or go with the Princess rep? What advantage is there on taking the land or sea portion first? I lived in Anchorage for three years back in the 80s so seeing Anchorage is a must. If I take either the DA4 or DB4Denali Explorer package would I have time to rent a car and sightsee? Lastly, should we book now in order to get a good balcony room or wait a few months?
