We have looked at VBRO. Thanks for the info re. 1st floor being up one. The other couple we are traveling with has leg issues and climbing stairs is very painful.
We'll continue to browse and we have sometime to make a decision but I do know that they book up quickly.

For anyone who has gone and stayed in Rome prior to cruising do you have a recommendation for housing. We will be 2 couples, 1 needing a queen size bed, 2 baths and either 1st floor or a lift. It would be for 4 nights. TIA

Thanks for all the info. I have checked both sites and I don't think I could go wrong with either. Decisions decisions

We took a bus tour (10-15 max) to the mountains with stops at 3 sisters and country side and a stop at the Jenolan Caves which were awesome. Lots of steps and some low overheads but DH who is 6'2 and has some leg mobility issues had no problems. For those who didn't want to trek could rest in their lunch cafe.
I believe we booked this via our concierge at the hotel.

4 yrs ago we did the Tieri Gorge Train on own own. One of our fellow passengers arranged for tickets for a group of approx 12. There were vans which we paid a $5 to take us from the port to the train station. As previously mentioned we were on the train not reserved for the cruise line. Yes they had mimosa and a lunch but at a hefty price than what we paid. The trip was beautiful and doddering from Skagway which we too have taken.
Along the way we stopped where there were a group of ladies selling some crafts. Not many and not pushy. It was mainly a photo op.
When we disembarked the train we walked to the Cadbury factory a little shopping and a shuttle back to the ship. A very nice day.

We are not going to Cairns on our circumnavigation of AU. So my question is what port Arlie Beach or Douglas is the best to go to the GBR?

We will be cruising into your city on March 31, 2016. Port times 8 - 6 any suggestions on private tours or DIY?
-
Thanks again for all the suggestions. Looks like it will be the City on our own.
-
Thanks for all your wonderful suggestions. I'm sure we'll enjoy the city.

This question has probably answered several times but sorting through pages of threads I thought I would ask it anyways.
What to do while there for only 10 hours? We arrive via ship in March of 2016. Are there tour operators at the port and are they reliable? Or should we contract with a private tour company ahead of arrival? Or just do a walkable tour of the city.
We will be traveling with another couple and could share whatever is recommended. Thanks for any info available.

No I didn't they must have crossed. Thanks for the info long pants it is.

Chris you beat me to this post.
Thank for the info re. Taking a stick/cane.
-
I have no problem for me but I too am interested in how the men should dress. Should they wear long pants? We will be there in late July.

Thanks SoBayCruiser. Trying to decide to do the side trip to Hamburg or go thru the full transit of the canal. We have been thru the Panama Canal so the lock process is familiar.
-
The Kiel Canal is part of our 7/20 Ocean Princess Baltic cruise. The canal for the little that I've read is 60 miles long. Princess offers an excursion to Hamburg letting you off the ship at the 1st lock.
We have been through the Panama Canal and therefore know the lock process so wondering if the Kiel Canal passing would be about the same and therefore should we take the side trip to Hamburg.
-
Has anyone taken the side tour to Hamburg from the 1st lock of the Kiel Canal.
If so what are your thoughts? Was it worth it or should you have stayed onboard for the full transit of the canal?

VirtualRain thank you for your picturesque portrayal of Tallinn. Regarding the taxis how many can fit into one. We are traveling with 2 other couples (6) total.

We will landin in Helsinki on July 28 at Kanava Terminal which I think is on the west side I think. Please tell me the tram #s or bus # to the Market Place.
Also I am gluten free. What is the probability of getting some native food that isn't fried or have any wheat (flour) oat or barley in it?
Thanks

Thank you for your input/review. Vantage is our top pick so far. We will have to wait until Dec. when they come out with their 2015 itinerary.
-
I would like to know who has cruised (river) with Vantage. If you have please rate the ships, food and what route you took.
We are thinking of doing our 1st river cruise in 2015. We have taken 31 ocean cruises as you can see the areas in my signature.
Any info would be appreciated - thanks.

Awhile back you mentioned about a different route from Cape Cod to the port in Bayonne. We would normally take I95 all the way thru CT & NY but you suggested the Wilbur Cross Pkwy and various other routes.
Would you please repeat those directions. We leave a week from Sunday. What would your estimate travel time be from Bourne Ma to the port authority.
-
Sorry about the ports after awhile they all run together. I believe the usual w/St Thomas, St Martin, Martinique probably Antigua, Barbados and if there were more I don't remember. As Archie Bunker would say "Those were the days" Marcia

Bean town burbs - you sure like Bermuda. I know it's easy sailing out of Boston. We too are originally from the burbs but so many other places in the world to see. Don't get me wrong we too have been to Bermuda approx 5/6 times it is a beautiful island.
