  1. Sorry, but that's not realistic. AA has offered to rebook them in F on a flight 2 hours later; they can't instead demand first class service while seated in the coach cabin. You cant just expect the FA infirst to keep running back to row 37 to check on you.

OP- is there a reason you refuse to take the later booking?

Yes. The late arrival time. I would have purchased tickets for that flight originally if I had considered it acceptable.

  2. To answer some of the questions asked:

We paid money not miles for our FC seats in October 2017 when we booked and choose seats.

The flight in question is our return flight home.

We will not make any demands for compensation from AA for the treatment we have received.

We will ask for an explanation concerning this experience and forward our complaint to the appropriate agencies.

We rebooked on the later flight because we didn’t want to gamble on seat availability. We now arrive home very late at night.

I believe purchasing a product (airline flights) months ahead of time, paying in full, I should receive the product I purchased. I have traveled by air enough to know “stuff” happens that airlines cannot control. This situation was totally in their control.

Thank you for sharing your stories and suggestions. Happy travels to each of you!

  3. I guess that the OP neglected to notice (or research) the part where AA specifically says:

    • We make every effort to ensure you get your chosen seat, but seat assignments are not guaranteed.
    • We reserve the right to change seats for operational, safety or security reasons.

Airline seats are NOT like seats at the theater or a baseball game, where you are buying a specific seat. You are buying a seat within the cabin of your class of service.

The way to get your specific seat -- buy the Residence on Etihad, where there is only one per aircraft.

I am familiar with the above. I am not a novice flyer. The issue was their failure to provide ANY seat within the cabin of our class of service. More importantly, the issues are the way AA has handled the entire episode.

  4. I apologize to TruckerDave and Cole Thornton if I offended them by posting on the "wrong board". This is the reason I normally do not post on social media or boards like these.

Thank you to everyone else who was kind enough to reply with supportive comments and suggestions. I did speak to an AA supervisor during my telephone call last night. I will move forward in my search for an explanation and resolution with AA. Thank you again to those who shared their own experiences and suggestions.

  5. Yes I have confirmation documents but it will not do me any good at this point since we leave in a few days. AA will not respond before we leave. I am overnighting a letter of complaint with documentation tomorrow. We will try to get seats on our original flight through the standby process since we will be spending hours at the airport before our changed flight leaves. Yes, we could have downgraded to main cabin but planned this vacation as a special treat in order to relieve some stress. Thanks for letting me rant.

  6. Just finished with American Airlinres and am beyond upset. They could provide no explanation for a "seat fix" that they made March 1st. The only suggestions they offered were to take a chance on a seat becoming available, downgrade to a main cabin seat or move to a flight departing 2 hours and twenty minutes later. We were on the same reservation when purchased last October. In my opinion they oversold the flight and either deliberately or randomly chose to take away one of our seats. This is unacceptable. I will be sending letters to Customer Relations and AA Corporate office seeking an explanation and apology. Planning ahead did absolutely no good because of the way the airline chooses to operate.

  7. We purchased airline tickets in October 2017 to Miami for our cruise this month. We made seat choices at the time of purchase. I was checking our flights today as we begin travel in a few days and my husband no longer has his seat assignment on our return flight home. There has not been a change in aircraft type and my seat assignment is still listed. I am trying to contact AA now. Anyone have this happen before?

  8. Johnmik1 may I ask what you were displeased with on the Noordam? We are sailing on her in a few weeks and would like to set our expectations (as well as those of our first-time cruiser companions) at a realistic level. We last sailed HAL in 2014 and have never been of the Noordam. Thank you for any comments you can give.

  9. We booked flights through the Flight Ease program for our Alaska Land & Sea Journey. We are now about 45 days from departure. When I sign in to the Flight Ease system it still says "unticketed". The airline confirmation codes do show us confirmed with seat assignments. Anyone have experience with this?

  10. What are the items you don't dare forget to take with you to Alaska because you can't easily replace them anywhere on the ship or in a port? Maybe it's something that you find very helpful and the rest of us might not think about including it in our packing list.

    Mine include:

    1) clips to hold the curtains closed (there is always a sliver of light that escapes)

    2) small first aid kit with bandages/blister pads/ OTC meds (in could be difficult to find a place to buy these or the supply on the ship could be limited) and of course any prescription meds

    3) small (but bright) flashlight

    4) an extra pair of prescription eyeglasses (I would be completely non-functioning if I broke or lost mine!)

  11. I would suggest asking on the Holland America Board. I see better results for this type of thing on the specific cruise line boards more so than here on the Alaska board.

I did also ask on the Holland America board. Thanks.

  12. The 7-day MDR menus are the same for all ships in Alaska for a season with perhaps a few very minor deviations.

Here are the menus from May 2017 Nieuw Amsterdam Alaska cruise that include Lido Restaurant, MDR, and Late Snacks:

Here are copies of the On Locations for the same cruise to give you ideas of what to expect in each port:

I had found that information but unfortunately it is for 2016 not 2017. Hopefully someone who sails early this season (2017) can supply updated information. Thanks for taking the time to reply:D.

  13. We are sailing on the Noordam Southbound in June 2017 as part of a Land and Sea Journey. We have sailed Holland before and this will be our third time to Alaska but we have friends joining us who have never sailed before. They would like to have some information about ship activities, menus, schedules and such. I did find some postings for a 2015 Noordam trip and a 2016 N Amsterdam trip but was hoping someone would be kind enough to post the On Location brochures and menus from one of the May 2017 Noordam sailings in Alaska.

Thank you for considering helping me out !

  15. How did you hear about the Dollars? We are also on a June 2017 Land/Tour package and I have not received any information about it.

We were told about it when we booked our 5 cabins for our group. Did you book directly with Holland, through a TA or with a PCC? That might make a difference but I don't really know.
