  1. Ummm, no, this does not happen. You used to be able to participate in US Direct at Vancouver. That program is no longer in operation.
Didn't know the policy had changed, Sorry. Haven't paid attention since it doesn't apply to me. My late husband had a DUI more than 30 years ago so I checked into it when we were scheduled to disembark in Canada from an Alaska cruise in 2008, even though we had traveled to Canada in the past with no problems.
  2. I anticipate the thing I'll dislike the most is coming home to my house and finding what state it will be in. I'm leaving my 3 young adult guys home for 12 days
From experience I can tell you that your shoes will stick to the floor in the kitchen and the bathroom with probably not smell too good. :D
  3. We are leaving 6/29 on Regatta for 11 nite cruise to Alaska. The advance weather report for all ports indicates "Showers" - not "Scattered Showers." I expected rain, but this really bothers me. We've put so much thought and effort into this trip - it kinda breaks my heart. Any thoughts on how to deal with it?
When we were there it rained a bit every day and not a lot any day.
  4. We don't bring bear aboard (don't drink it) but we do bring 12 packs of Diet Coke for drinking in our cabin, the number depending on the length of the cruise. I have a collapsable semi-hard sided bag that holds exactly 2 fridge packs. I pack it in the front pocket of one suitcase then fill it on the way to the pier, put a luggage tag on it and give it to a porter along with the rest of our luggage. I don't think there's any line that won't let you bring soft drinks aboard, though.

  5. My first cruise was on the Britanis, also! It was either '89 or '90. I'd have to look at the dates on the backs of the pictures to be sure. I will never forget out waiter, Cesar. We've never had a waiter as attentive since. We had an inside stateroom. It was huge with one and a half bathrooms and two closets, one a walk in with built in drawers. The beds were built into opposite walls and there was an enormous upolstered ottoman in between and a sit down dressing table. It was easy to see how elegant she had been in her prime. I think the movie theater might have been below water level. It was very spooky going down and down and down the stairs to get there and you could hear the ship creaking. So happy to run into some former Britanis passengers.

  6. Birth Certificates being used for travel must be an original offical copy, some may or maynot have a raised seal as that is state driven, rather it be watermark, raised seal, hologram, etc. It must be an original offical birth certificate. Laminated is not an original offical birth certificate.
If that's what was sent by the state's Bureau of Vital Statistics, then it would have to be an original official copy, especially since the op siad that it has a raised seal.
  7. My husband was born at home in Appalachia in 1921. When we applied for our passports the fellow at the desk was concerned about the validity of DH's birth certificate (official with raised seal from Tennessee) because or something about the signature and told us we'd need to get a notorized statement from the midwife who delivered him or someone who was present at the birth or a baptismal certificate or early school records. Obviously any of those would be impossible. I'm sure his birth was recorded in the family bible, but who knows who has that. DH was the 3rd of 4 boys and didn't inherit up with any of the family "treasures." So the clerk shrugged his shoulders and said he'd submit the application and see what happened. What happened was that the passport arrived in the mail in about 3 weeks.
