  1. Hello

I have booked a Luftner river cruise for September 2020.  I have searched high and low and can not find an answer anywhere. I hope someone can help me.

On Luftner/Amadeus river cruises are you allowed to bring alcohol onboard at embarkation and also when returning to the ship with purchased alcohol in a port ?

Thanks for any help I can get.

      Cheers

  3. Hi all.

I have searched but can't find anything so I will ask. Maybe BruinSteve will be around with his knowledge.

6 adults with a suitcase each are arriving at LB cruise terminal Nov 10th at 8:30 am and we have a reservation for a vehicle at Avis rent a car at

2165 Long Beach Boulevard. Ocean Blvd didn't have any when Costco booked it.

What are the options to get there ? It doesn't look like the Passport bus goes that far.

Get an Uber for one and then drive back and battle the traffic to pick up the others ?

I appreciate any help I can get.

  4. Be serious. There has been infiltration from organized crime, but your post says that the entire police department disarmed, which is untrue. Some, but not all. And the police departmetn is being operated by federal and state officials now.

From CNN: "The take over led to the disarmament and detainment of police officers and the confiscation of "weapons, ballistic vests, cartridges and communication radios," Álvarez Heredia said."

I am being serious !!! CNN is not the only news company to rely on. No I won't use the line that YOUR president uses.

    The Associated Press

MEXICO CITY -- Authorities in southern Mexico disarmed and placed under investigation the entire police force in the once-glittering resort of Acapulco on Tuesday, claiming the local cops were infiltrated by drug gangs.

  5. True, but you didn’t have to pay thousands of dollars just to enter the restaurant like getting on a cruise ship then pay another food bill on top of that. The problem is the more people are willing, almost gladly, to pay more for specialty restaurants the worse the food and selection will be in the “free” dining room. You see it talked about daily on CC and on every cruise lines. Diminishing MDR food quality and speciality dining being shoved in our faces. It’s only a matter of time before the only free food on Carnival will be Guys, Blue Iguana, and the buffet because so many are willing to pay $38 a piece on top of the cruise fare for steak potato and an app. I’ve done specialty restaurants but won’t make that mistake anymore or contribute to this money grab. These aren’t a deal at $38 but just a $38 meal at any steakhouse. These aren’t $200 meals. Trust me, Carnival isn’t giving you anything more than what’s its worth and what it costs them. Carnival isn’t going to LOSE money on every guest entering the steakhouse. They’d like you to believe that these meals are expensive, some people do, but they aren’t. Carnival makes money on everything it sells ..... Think about it.
Thank you Sparks. You nailed it

  6. Hi Griff61,

I emailed her a few days ago but have not received a response yet. How long should I expect to wait to hear from Jessica? It's crazy that I was quoted $354 for November 2, 2018 when I called the property direct(the rate without parking).

She got back to me in a day but it's now summer so she might be on holidays. I would give a call and just ask if she is working or not. I have also talked to her by phone. She is very accommodating.

    good luck

  7. I guess it's time again to post my standard answer:

There is a very limited area of Long Beach in which you want to stay...and, therefore, a limited number of hotels.

"A" List: The BEST places to stay are the Hyatt, Westin, Renaissance and Hyatt Centric (also known as Hyatt at the Pike) …These put you right in the heart of the tourist area with very convenient walks to restaurants, shops and attractions and easy access to the free "Passport" shuttle...and those ARE the nicest hotels in town. Doesn't necessarily mean they are higher priced, though...and you can often get a real deal via Priceline...

    http://www.marriott.com/hotels...-renaissance-long-beach-hotel/

"B" List: Slightly further away, but still in decent walking distance, is the Hilton. Just across the bridge (on the same side of the channel as the Carnival Pier) are the Marriott Residence Inn Downtown and the Maya Doubletree...

"C" List: Slightly outside the prime area and/or not necessarily the nicest hotels for one reason or another, but options if all else fails are the Marriott Courtyard and the Best Western Long Beach Convention Center...The Queen Mary is across the bridge ...and right next to the Carnival Terminal...however, I am not a big fan of the Queen Mary--unless you are on there for nostalgia's sake...It's not exactly a first class hotel by today's standards--the rooms are small, condition questionable, etc.

Getting to ANY of these hotels from LAX, you'd either have to take a taxi, car service or a shuttle...Try Super Shuttle or Prime Time Shuttle or Super Shuttle's Execucar...From hotel to pier, some of these hotels may have free shuttles, but policies change time to time, so I would check individually with the hotel...All would be a very short taxi ride from the Carnival Pier...From the Maya Doubletree, Residence Inn Downtown or Queen Mary, one could even walk...LAX is 20 miles from the San Pedro World Cruise Center, 23 miles from the Carnival Terminal in Long Beach…could take anywhere from a half an hour to an hour depending on day, time and traffic…

One word of warning: Do NOT go looking for bargains outside of this short list of hotels...Long Beach is a BIG city...there are lots of different areas, some better, some worse...some not so close to the port or the tourist areas...That bargain hotel MAY tell you it's near the Convention Center or near the port...but it may not be...it may be in an undesirable area or location. You want to have a pleasant stay--stick to this list.

This area of Long Beach means you will have a large choice of restaurants nearby, you will have nice shops and picturesque scenery and places to walk and enjoy...You will be close to sites like the Aquarium and the Queen Mary if you want to have a little sightseeing... 8. I searched and couldn't find an answer to this but I'm sure some of the experts here would be able to tell me.

There a 6 adults in 3 staterooms and we want to take advantage of the free wine or 50% off. We want to eat together as it's a family. What I have read is that the deal is for " table only " as per Splendor steakhouse mngr.

Is it possible to make 3 reservations and when we get to the steakhouse ( 1st elegant night ) get a table together and use the wine deal ? clear.png?emoji-roll-eyes-1744

    TIA clear.png?emoji-roll-eyes-1744clear.png?emoji-roll-eyes-1744

  9. My family and I were considering booking the Steakhouse the first night of our upcoming cruise for this reason also. We have CHEERS but are leaving out of Texas. We decided against it because it may be busier since people are going for the free wine. Remember though, each adult can bring on a bottle of wine. So we are going to do that to have some for the first day until CHEERS kicks in the next day. Then we can book the Steakhouse for whenever. Just something else to think about.
We were on the Freedom in February and if you go the 2nd night to the steakhouse, 1st Elegant Night, they also offer the wine deal
