  1. I was on her 2019 from Fort Lauderdale on a reworked itinerary that no longer included Cuba. I really enjoyed the size and passengers; plus great water activates off Belize, Roatan, Cartagena, San Blas, Darien rainforest tribe, and Costa Rica.

I was on the Silver Galapagos for my first Silversea experience in 2014. Then the Silver Discoverer along Indonesia in 2018. Both gone now.

November 10, 2021 I hope to be getting on board in Puerto Williams, Chile for another 18 nights of Falkands, South Georgia, and Antarctica.

  2. Gdansk, on the Baltic Sea, is Poland's largest port. There is a large shipyard there, which is where the Solidarity Movement forced the Communists to make concessions in 1980.

In Silversea's May 22, 2021 Resumption of Service announcement, they show the first voyage of the Wind to be Nov 20, 2021 from Buenos Aries. In the cabin description they allude to cabin feature changes that will be made in the 2021 updates:

PLEASE NOTE: SUITE INFORMATION REFER TO THE SILVER WIND POST THE 2021 EXTENSIVE DRY DOCK, AND WILL THUS ONLY APPLY TO ANY VOYAGES STARTING FROM JUNE 2021. FOR DETAILED INFORMATION ON THE SHIP CONFIGURATION FOR VOYAGES PRIOR TO MAY 2021 PLEASE REFER TO THE DECK PLANS. SUITE DIAGRAMS SHOWN ARE FOR ILLUSTRATION PURPOSES ONLY. FINAL FEATURES, MATERIALS, FINISHES AND LAYOUT MAY BE DIFFERENT THAN SHOWN.

Perhaps there will "Hotel Work" will be performed outside of the Ice Class hull strengthening. We can only speculate, but that is fun to do, too.

  3. Someone inside Silversea told me it sounds like the Wind is still on for conversion to 'ice class', and sooner rather than later is the 'inside' talk. Only time will tell us what is really going on.

She did go out to sea for a 8 hour cruise on 9 March, just like on 18 February; maybe to keep things lubricated and have an active log book.

July looks to be a time I can hope to see some US cruise activity again -- yes, I mean 2021. lol  I sure hope it happens.

I have had both my vaccinations, tested negative for Covid over the weekend, and in 2 days will be landing in Mazatlan, Mexico. I will manage to get back my place there, in Teacapan, Sinaloa, to pay taxes and other bills, and play around in the sun. Minnesota is blessing me with a few inches of snow today just so I will not forget what winter is here.

    Have a happy Paddy's Day. 🍀

  4. In an email about Grand Voyages, toward the bottom was "Grand Amazon". This is what I copied:

"What are the advantages of offering this itinerary on the soon-to-be refurbished Silver Wind?

It’s going to be a wonderful opportunity to showcase the expedition capabilities of the ship. She’s an incredible vessel: she was the second ship that was built for Silversea, and, like her sister Silver Cloud, she’s perfect for expedition cruising. Silver Wind can accommodate a large expedition team of 28 staff members, as well as a large fleet of Zodiacs."

    "

It is wonderful that Silversea continues to move toward the 'moving target' of resuming cruising post Covid. It also appears the refurbishment of the Wind will happen.

This itinerary will be after the 2021-22 Antarctica season, departing April 4, 2022.

FYI: I was fortunate to have received my 1st dose of Moderna last week. March 11 is my appointment for the 2nd dose. I plan to go to my place in Mexico, south of Mazatlan, the 3rd week of March. My dream of travel seems to be a reasonable hope 12 1/2 months after canceling my last trip. I hope others have also been fortunate enough to able to get theirs.

I also emailed my SS Consultant to let him know advances are being made. Their lives must have been so difficult through all of this too. I hope it cheered him a little, and brightened that light at the end of the tunnel.

    Keep smiling behind the masks.

  5. Over the last two weeks I noticed August Muse cruises in Alaska have been removed from their site, and have also removed the August 29 cruise from Seward to Tokyo for 13 nights.

They finish in Vancouver July 29 and resume in Tokyo September 12, 2021. That would give over 5 weeks drydock and save cash in the first quarter. Could be their plan.

BTW, CruiseCritic does still displays the August cruises, but does not have pricing on them.

  6. She is again  moored in France.

This was just copied from Silversea's website:

Break new waters with Silver Wind.

A major upgrade in December 2018 will saw Silver Wind looking better than ever. A second refurbishment in summer 2021 will see her benefitting from a strengthened to ice-class hull and will make her one of the most adaptable ships in our fleet. Still timelessly elegant, still luxuriously relaxed, her improved cruising versatility means she is able to whizz from the Polar Regions at the ends of the earth to the iconic ports of the Mediterranean with fluid ease. So whether you want to get up close and personal to penguins in Antarctica or laze on the golden sands of the Caribbean, get ready for a wealth of diverse destination experiences, in traditional Silversea comfort.

  7. I took a look at "marinetraffic.com" today and found the Wind is leaving Barcelona again and headed to Marseille. I do not have any ideas for why it returned to Barcelona after being moored for several months.

The environment for cruising has not been getting any clearer after 8 months of pandemic. We can hope the vaccines may offer a means of controlling the virus.

    Stay Safe

We opted for a February 2021 Antarctica cruise on Seabourn.  Per diem it is $608 per day versus over $1300 on Silver seas.  It is on the Quest, not the Venture.  It is 24 days and includes South Georgia.  It is a verandah for $14,998.  They have  a $500 air credit and OBC of $500.  And they do have a pay in full discount of 10%. With business class air and a 7 day extension to Iquazu falls and Rio, and a pre night hotel it is $48908 for two for 32 days.

Not that I have any reason to promote another line, it is just an option.

Unfortunately, I saw this today on the Seabourn site:

SEATTLE, August 31, 2020  Seabourn, the ultra-luxury resort at sea, announced today that it will cancel additional voyages for three cruise ships in its fleet as a part of its pause in global ship operations.

The announcement applies to Seabourn Ovation, Seabourn Encore, and Seabourn Quest with each ship having a different “effective through” date. Specific details are as follows:

    • Seabourn Ovation: with its operations pause effective through January 3, 2021
    • Seabourn Encore: with its operations pause effective through January 6, 2021
    • Seabourn Quest: with its operations pause effective through May 10, 2021.

Guests who are currently confirmed on one of the affected voyages on Seabourn Quest’s Antarctica, Amazon, Panama Canal, South America and Transatlantic cruises scheduled between November 7, 2020 and April 25, 2021, will automatically be re-accommodated in the same suite on the same voyage during Seabourn Quest’s 2021-2022 season, at rate paid, within 30 days, as well as receive a shipboard credit that is calculated based upon voyage length. The shipboard credit is $300 per suite for voyages up to 20 days in length and $500 per suite for voyages of 21 days or more.

  11. I just check the Silver Wind location and after 11 hours in Barcelona, she is sailing at 11 knots to a reported destination of Marseilles. I don't think Marine Traffic deceived me, but it does add more to the mystery.

I would not expect it to be converted to Ice Class until 2021, if capacity is needed then, saving the $60  DCCRUISER mentioned for operating capital.

They could still do cosmetic upgrades up until June 2021, then if the industry is strong enough strengthen the hull 1 year after original schedule.

No, we’ve still not heard anything from Silversea or our TA. Having said that, it’s very difficult to get any info from businesses in the UK as their staff all seem to be ‘working from home’ which seems like a good excuse not to communicate with their customers. We were really looking forward to our first Silversea trip.

We are also waiting for refunds from Princess (July 2020 cruise) and Celebrity (October 2020).

    We live in hope!

I believe the UK staff for SS go to the office at least one day a week. If they owed me I would call each day, and the next week call at a different time in the hope of finding a phone that is answered. In my isolation I would have the schedule to permit me to do it. Good Luck.

  13. The ship locators I just looked at, have the Cloud still moored at Marseille.

This was in SeaTrade Cruise news today:

Silver Spirit achieved classification society DNV GL's certification in infection prevention for maritime (CIP-M).

The Spirit has been selected to do chartered to do short Saudi cruises :

    https://www.seatrade-cruise.com/news/silver-spirit-chartered-red-sea-cruises-saudi-summer-campaign

I hope they find good success in their operations and procedures. MSC had success in their first week Italian cruise. Important steps in beginning the return to sea.

LADY MEER  -- Have you made any progress on being informed of cancellation and options open to you?

  14. AS OF JULY 20, 2020

SILVERSEA “CRUISE WITH CONFIDENCE” OUR NEW CANCELLATION POLICY

NOW EXTENDED THROUGH 30 APRIL, 2021

YOU CAN BOOK YOUR CRUISE WITH CONFIDENCE

You will be allowed to cancel your cruise for any reason up to 48 hours prior to departure and receive a 100% Future Cruise Credit with a 2 year validity, for all voyages departing prior to 30 April, 2021.

    VOYAGES CANCELED BY SILVERSEA

    - Guests will receive up to 125% Future Cruise Credit* for cruises canceled by Silversea.  .....   (from Silversea website:)

    https://www.silversea.com/temporary-amendment-to-cancellation-policy.html?cid_email=em_USA_EM2007062590_VS_OTHER_CON_DEM_LINK&IndividualId=15192695&utm_campaign=USA_EM2007062590_VS&utm_source=USA&utm_medium=Email&cid=48448&mid=148960874

    The wording states "UP TO".

In the case of the Wind cancellations, there were Cloud voyages that were available in Antarctica. Silversea made those available at favorable pricing terms. I too was confused by not being offered 125% FCC, but when I looked up the email from a week ago saw this.

It could all have been handled better; however, with the pandemic, working from home, and all the moving parts in a company of this size I can understand lack of perfect communication. It is still a fine line and I opted for the new January 30, 2021 18 day with South Georgia.

    Keep smiling and stay healthy.

  15. Today I received my Wind Cancellation email for the December 5 2020 sailing. This matches the other reports today.

I have options to sail on the Cloud 2020 or 2021. Or something different.

Yesterday I used an online ship location service: it reported the Wind to be in Marseilles. I am not sure if it is correct or not.

Good luck to all "Wind Riders" as you evaluate your many options.

    Jerry
